  1. Hudson is likely to be a Type A free agent, again, if you deal for him, your offer is competing with the value of two draft picks. He's obviously a very solid player, and I think he would help the Brewers, he'd be a big defensive upgrade for sure. He's been playing on sore legs this season, which is something worth looking into before making a move. Career OBP is .344, he's at .356 this season.
  2. Frederickson and Dykstra is correct.
  3. Gagne looks like he has much better command of his pitches since he's come back....maybe? Riske is starting to look a little better too...maybe? That bomb Braun hit in the first inning was amazing! The atmosphere in the park tonight was awesome from the second CC started his walk out to the bullpen!
  4. I applaud the Cubs for making this move, and I'm glad it was them, vs St Louis, or one of the other wildcard contenders. I assume the Cubs will make the playoffs, one way or the other, I'll be much more concerned if St Louis, Florida, or the Mets make a big move. Harden is a big-time risk, I think we'd all be surprised if he stayed healthy, but he sure is a talent! Good for the Cubs, and good for their fans, this is supposed to be fun like this! Go Brewers! Doug, it's your serve.
  5. Nice of the Cubs to prove me wrong, why wait a day?

  7. Section 215, Row 9, Seat 5....bring it on, Pedro!
  8. I think the Dodgers will get Jack Wilson, the Rays will get Nady and Fuentes, and the Brewers will get Ray Durham. I'll bet the Cubs don't make a major acquisition, because they're already in first place, and they don't have good depth to deal from. If there's a big one left, it's most likely Mark Teixeira - I think I'd bet on the Red Sox.

  10. "We're never going to be in a position where we're neither buying nor selling." -Billy Beane, yesterday Oakland needs to decide which way they're going to go, but they're in the middle or more rumors than anyone else at the moment, and they do have a GM with a track record for moving players around.
  11. In his blog today, Buster Olney says what a lot of us are thinking - if the Cubs had the kind of prospects it will take to get Rich Harden, they'd have used them to get Sabathia in the first place. He lists off the usual suspects - Randy Wolf, Greg Maddux, AJ Burnett, etc, but says that none of these pitchers would provide the impact the Cubs are hoping to add, so it's just as likely that they'll end up making no deals before the deadline.
  12. MercuryNews.com reports the Giants are likely to wait until near the trade deadline to decide whether they are in or out of the NL West race, but that they are discussing deals for their veteran players, such as Ray Durham and Rich Aurilia. Durham is quoted as saying he'd prefer to stay with the Giants, but he would not use his "10 and 5 rights" to block a trade to a contender.
  13. Could we please stop referring to veteran players from Japan as "rookies"? Seriously, that country won the World Baseball Classic, they can play ball these days.
  14. Before the season began, I was absolutely convinced that the Brewers would be the NL wildcard team. When Gallardo got hurt, I thought that opportunity was gone, but now with Sabathia in his place - I absolutely believe the Brewers will be in the playoffs, as the wildcard, three games behind the Cubs. On the other hand, I also miss the atmosphere at County Stadium, (when it's warm out), and I am also noticing the changes in Bob Uecker, which is sad to say. Oh, and I supported the move to get Johnny Estrada when it first happened.
  15. You can see why the Rockies are having a tough time. They went 1-10 with RISP, were given five bases on balls in 4 2/3, and were handed a run via an error, on a night when their opponent stunk up the joint....and they won by a run, which may not have happened if that shot Braun hit hadn't hit the mound. The Brewers were just plain flat most of the night, I hope that's over in one game, the Rockies are a team that you have to beat up on at home.
  16. The Brewers look awful tonight - just completely disconnected. Is it possible that all of the emotion is momentarily backfiring?
  17. jjf, I'm with you on this. The Cubs should be pursuing Harden, it just makes sense, but if they couldn't afford Sabathia, what makes them think Beane would give them Harden for the same sort of offer? My guess is that Harden will end the season with Oakland, beyond that, I think he's one DL stint away from being converted to a closer, ala Kerry Wood. I don't know if the Brewers could pull him out of there, and it's probably safer to just target Huston Street in the first place, but I'd like to have Harden in a relief role.

  20. Ellis would be a big defensive upgrade to Weeks for this season, and he's not that bad an offensive player - is he a free agent after this season? Yes, Ellis is a free agent after the season.
  21. This shouldn't surprise anyone, the Cubs have been shopping for a pitcher for as long as the Brewers had been. I would think Sabathia to Milwaukee will force them to aim higher, which makes it Harden instead of Wolf. I fully expect the Cubs to add a starter, just as I expect the Brewers to add a reliever, and that still leaves St Louis to do their thing - this should be a great race.

  24. This is exactly what I had hoped for, Suppan obviously isn't right at the moment, two weeks off could make a big difference.
  25. As the article states, Beane is in a tough spot. The A's aren't in it...or are they? One thing that cannot be questioned is, Oakland needs young hitters. I have no idea which pieces Billy will deal to address this, but they've got to make some moves, whether they're in the race, or looking at 2010. I would assume Huston Street and Joe Blanton are available, and I've read that Mark Ellis can be had, after that, I have no idea. Whatever happens with the Cubs, I do think Harden is the best pitcher now available, and I think his status will hold up a lot of the other arms you'll hear rumors about.
