  1. Kendall absolutely should have been bunting in the 8th inning, and that mess I saw never, ever should have happened. BUT The Brewers won, so...lovely strategy, wonderful execution, brilliant teamwork, and thoughtful analysis. Die Cubs. Die Cardinals. Die Cubs and Cardinals.
  2. The Dodgers' offer is missing that one guy that makes you take the deal. Small sample or not, Hu didn't just hit poorly, he fell flat on his face in LA, and LaRoche has had some injury issues in the past, which may be why he hasn't produced in LA either. Twelve months ago, a package with LaRoche and Hu in it would have caused jaws to drop - but that's not so today. It's the nature of prospects, a year from now, maybe Hu's the man, and maybe LaPorta is flat on his face. I'm nobody's GM, maybe Shapiro disagrees with me, but I think the Brewers' reported offer is much stronger because there's no "Yeah, but" with LaPorta or Green. They haven't been sent back to AAA due to lack of production, they've put up numbers. It's just a timing thing that happens to favor Milwaukee right now.
  3. This makes sense to me, whoever gets Sabathia will want him to pitch Monday or Tuesday, and Cleveland will want to sort through the offers, to make sure they make the best decision. I would imagine the answer will come tomorrow, and I do think the Brewers are the favorites to get him, Cleveland's giving it as much time as they can for some other GM to lose his mind.
  4. "In talking with executives involved, they can't imagine the Dodgers being able to fashion a deal unless they involve Kershaw, Billingsley or Kemp, and that would be a pretty steep price to pay for a 2 1/2 month rental. It still appears as though the Brewers are the front runners, they have this incredible AA club, loaded with prospects, they're building their offer around Matt LaPorta. The Indians are trying to build up their position players, they've got good pitching." -Buster Olney, ESPN That's exactly how I see it, the Indians want bats, the Dodgers are not a good match, unless Kemp is in it, and the Dodgers don't have the offensive depth to let him go right now. LaRoche is a guy you'd take in a deal, but he is no longer a guy you build a deal around - he needs to show something at the major-league level, so far he's looked like the stereotypical AAAA player.
  5. I was hoping for a chance to catch the Cardinals tonight, but I'll take a blown save by the Cubbies anytime. Maholm as been pitching well of late, I like the Brewers in the matchup, but Bush can't just throw it up there tonight.
  6. It seems as though Padilla has developed a sore arm. I know the Brewers checked him out, but I think he's fallen off the radar.
  7. If Sabathia lands elsewhere, don't discount the possibility of Blanton. Oakland is working hard to add some young bats, I think he could be a possibility if they can't get it done with Cleveland.
  8. Since the Dodgers are competing with Milwaukee for Sabathia, I really doubt a deal for Hall will happen at this point. Who knows, if the Brewers get CC, and LA can't get Wilson from Pittsburgh - maybe then. Toronto and Baltimore both want shortstops too, and it seems as though Cleveland has interest in one, if teams still value Hall as a SS, I'm sure there will be opportunities.
  9. With such a weak division, and their guys starting to get healthy, I'd been thinking the Rockies may still have a chance to make a run.
  10. I believe the Reds are listening to offers for David Weathers.
  11. Yes, absolutely, it's been stated several times, JACK WILSON is holding LA up. Think about this, LA's top prospect at shortstop fell on his face, so they're all over the place looking for a SS. They decide to focus on Jack Wilson, and Pittsburgh is asking for some of the same guys they're offering for Sabathia. 1. What does that tell you about the offer for Sabathia? If it's even close to an offer for Wilson...it's not enough. 2. If the SS prospect failed this badly, forcing a run at Jack Wilson, why on earth would Cleveland entertain that player as an option, in exchange for the best trading chip on the market? Something just doesn't add up.
  12. 45,000 views of this thread.....we shoulda sold ad space.
  13. I could see speculating on LaRoche, and you can add Lambo if you want to, but why would anybody want to add Hu or Young at this point? That's really an offer for a #1 starter?
  14. I posted info on these Dodgers prospects a few posts up. Cleveland, I dare you to take that offer instead of LaPorta, Green and Cain. Who are you trying to kid here? Either there's some misinformation in the reported offers, or Cleveland is merely buying time.
  15. Andy LaRoche, 3B - 126 MLB at-bats, .222 AVE, .698 OPS, 3 HR. Minor league totals - 1796 ABs, .293 AVE, .895 OPS, 95 HR. Age 24, bats right, throws right Chin-Lung Hu, SS - 136 MLB at-bats, .176 AVE, .500 OPS, 2 HR. Want to know why LA is dealing for a SS? Minor league totals - 2113 ABs - .298 AVE, 36 HR, .767 OPS Age 24 bats right, throws right Delwyn Young, OF - 133 MLB at-bats, .286 AVE, .761 OPS, 3 HR. Minor league totals - 2706 ABs, .303 AVE, .871 OPS, 102 HR, Age 26, bats both, throws right Andrew Lambo, OF - No major league experience. Minor league totals - 476 ABs, .309 AVE, .868 OPS, 14 HR, Age 20, bats left, throws left LaRoche, Hu and Young have all failed to impress the Dodgers in major league trials. LaRoche is blocked by DeWitt, he still has value, but he can't be considered a stud prospect until he shows something in LA. Young is already age 26, and has managed to get himself 133 MLB at-bats. Hu, was signed as a teen and has been in the Dodgers system for several seasons. He failed miserably in LA, which is why they need to go get a SS right now. Lambo is years away from the major leagues, he is 20-year-old and has only 476 minor league at-bats to judge him by.
  16. I had been thinking the same thing, it'd likely be Sheets, Sabathia and Suppan in the playoffs, with Parra there as the #4 guy for a start or two, if needed. I'd love it if Gallardo was able to pitch a little bit in September, and then be there for the postseason.
  17. Thats why people saying Cleveland has no motivation to act quickly are flat out wrong. If they sit back and wait for a great deal they will see the offers drop. Absolutely - if the Brewers get CC this weekend, he'll make two starts before the All-Star break, then one after the All-Star break - before starting once each at St Louis and at home vs the Cubs. That's enormous, if Cleveland waits, the Brewers may actually "have to" change focus and bring in a different pitcher.
  18. The Dodgers are pursuing Jack Wilson. Brewers fans, Jack Wilson may prevent the Dodgers from going all-out for Sabathia. It's a broken record, but it's true - the Dodgers are somewhat limited in what they can offer right now, the big league club is flawed, and a lot of their top minor leaguers have not stepped up when they got a shot in LA. The Indians and the Pirates want some of the same guys, so for the moment, the Dodgers are left with a "one or the other" scenario, while they look at other infielders, etc. When you hear very general reporting about who the Dodgers might offer, if you hear the name "Chin-Lung Hu", keep in mind, he was supposed to be the Dodgers' next shortstop - but he failed. If he hadn't, LA wouldn't be shopping for infield help in the first place.
  19. Corbeau, this is a good idea, but it again illustrates the Dodgers' predicament. They really can't afford to deal Lowe right now, they're trying to add a veteran arm, and also a shortstop. They may very well offer some minor league pitching to get a shortstop right now, in fact they'd probably have to, but they aren't deep enough in LA right now to deal anyone who is proven.
  20. Holliday will be a free agent after next season, if you get him, you've got him for 1 1/2 years, and then he walks - there wouldn't be time to deal him, unless you dump him at the deadline next July.
  21. The thing is, if Cleveland means it when they say they need to add bats in this deal (which they most certainly do) - the Brewers are still it. The Cubs and Dodgers are both adding more arms to their proposals - that simply does not match the Indians' needs. I'm sure it's making Shapiro think, but he's got no run production in Cleveland now, and very little of it in the high minors - he NEEDS to add offense.
  22. If the Cardinals do slip, the Brewers will be in a fight with the second-place team from the NL East. Nobody in the west is a big deal right now, they'll have a division winner, and otherwise go home. Tom Glavine will decide during the All-Star break, whether or not to have season-ending surgery; the Braves look to be too banged up to hang around. The Mets have the same issues they've always had - superstars surrounded by old legs and average players. They'll likely have a run at some point, but I don't think they'll hold together. For the wild card - the Brewers are in a fight with the Cardinals and the Marlins.
  23. but Cleveland has another day or so to see if they will or not. I think that's exactly right, Peavey, I'm sure Cleveland is just trying to wait them out, and probably the Phillies too. In the end, neither of these teams is equipped to match the Brewers' offer - without creating a brand-new hole in their roster. Cleveland wants bats right now, while they've got some young arms. The Brewers are offering LaPorta, because they're loaded with power bats right now, the Dodgers would have to let go of Kemp, with no replacement in place - that's a completely different scenario. None of LA's infielders will sway Cleveland right now, they might take one in a deal, but those guys cannot be the centerpiece - that's Kemp, Billingsley, or Kershaw. Dealing Billingsley or Kershaw doesn't make sense if you're trying to add an arm, and it doesn't match Cleveland's most obvious needs either. The Indians are looking for the best deal, and so far, the Brewers certainly look like the best match.
  24. The Dodgers are not in a good position. They need a shortstop, and they want another pitcher, but many of their prospects have dropped in value this season, so they probably can't make two big deals at this point. LaRoche and Hu have done nothing with their big league opportunities, and DeWitt has been just another guy.
