  1. One more vote for the recaps. When I have to follow on my blackberry the IGTs are how I do it and the recaps are really helpful.
  2. Sweet. Always nice when we take the season series from the Pads. I've spent the last 15 min. abusing folks in my office.
  3. Some complaint from Rivera or Clayton it sounds like
  4. I saw Peavey on Sat. night -- he survived against a bad Cubs offense but did not look good. The Brewers got to him last year in Petco when he was pitching better. I think we'll score some runs.
  5. Could someone describe Turnbow's save? I wasn't able to catch it on the radio, tv or gameday, so all I have is the box score that says 2 SO, 8 pitches, 7 strikes. I imagine he struck out one batter on three pitches, one batter on four, and get the other batter to hit into an out on one pitch. You have it right. First pitch pop-up, then Roberts tried to bunt but it went foul, fouled off another one and got frozen with the nasty slurve. Cameron looked at 2, then almost chased one low and outside and then got frozen on the same pitch as Roberts. Turnbow was on; Pads had no chance. espn.com and mlb.com both have pitch by pitch recaps. (put quoted portion in italics -TC)
  6. Jim Miller's take on Giants' TV was that it was a shot to the head so the Giants were upset about that. On the drop, he says the rule is that you have to take it out with your bare hand, so when it dropped out of the glove it was a drop no matter how long it was in there. I haven't checked the rules to see if he's right on that.
  7. Last K wasn't on Jenks. 3-1 pitch was way outside and called a strike, Strike 3 called was marginal too.
  8. D'Backs' call (Grace I think). "This game is over." Didn't wait for the throw. Ueck made it sound a little closer.
  9. Same Victor - even when he pitches pretty well he finds a way to lose.
  10. walk off single for Yost 7-6 Brewers in 10.
  11. I was living in NY in 82 and remember Baltimore sweeping the Yankees 5 straight in Sept. The Brewers went 22-11 or so down the stretch but Baltimore went something like 27-5, kind of the opposite of the Padres/Giants "race" this year. They closed with 4 in Baltimore, Friday was a DH to make up a game from June that ended 2-2 (I think the 2d run for Baltimore in that game scored when Simmons rolled the ball back to Vuckovich thinking there were 3 outs when there were 2 and the run came in from 3d), and I went down to Baltimore to see them blown out in both. The next 2 games were on TV everywhere, although after the Brewers got through the 8th of the clincher up 5-2 thanks to a sliding catch in the corner by Oglivie they cut away to another game and we all missed the 5 run 9th. Nedli's HR was in Fenway the game before the O's series started to put them up 4 with 4 to play. In an earlier game in Fenway Oglivie hit a dong with 2 out in the 9th to tie up a game 2-2 and the Brews won in 11; Vuckovich went all 11 I think with over 160 pitches and was never the same afterwards. In the series with the O's in County Stadium that Sept. the O's got 4 in the top of the 1st in the 1st game, Molly and Yount came up in the bottom of the inning and it was 4-2 after 2 batters. The Brewers won 15-6 and it looked like it was over but the O's won the next 2 and every game after that counted. Last meaningful game in Sept. was in 92, they were 2 down with 3 to play and tied up Oakland in the 9th of the Fri. night game then won in 10 to hang in there but Toronto won that night and the next day to close it out.
  12. Four pages so soon? Sheets win truly inspiring! Oh, now I get it.
  13. I think last time we scored 6 in an inning we lost 8-6.
  14. Wandy gave up 9 runs in 2.2 innings tonight.
