  1. All of what pete said may be true (about what we are exposed to and what are grandparents were exposed to), yet, the average life expectancy continues to climb.
  2. I know you were stating that tongue-in-cheek...but classless? Not sure even the St. Louis fans would say that was classless. It was the umps that told him to go back to Home Plate. I think it was just natural to do the "faux" swing of the bat (if that is what you are referring to?). It seemed like he was just confused as to why he had to go back to home plate and just re-enacted the swing to make sure he was following all the requirements. I think most fans, even in St. Louis, understood his actions.
  3. Last time we were in Phoenix there was a bar (yes, a bar...with a bartender..and drinks..and such) in the middle of the produce section of the grocery store we went to. Is this a common thing in other parts of the country?
  4. So just designate someone in our house to become subject to dietary restrictions? Ok...yeah..I'll suggest that tonight at the dinner table and see how that goes.
  5. Not sure why? If the grocery store I go to doesn't carry something, then I don't get it. No need to go to another grocery store. I am completely about convenience and speed when it comes to any form of shopping. I don't want to go any place that is more than a couple of miles from my house and I don't want to spend more than 30 or 40 minutes, tops, at that place. Related to convenience is the general "atmosphere" of the store. We have a Pick & Save that is probably about a qtr mile farther away from our house than the Sentry that we normally go to. The Pick & Save has a much bigger selection than the Sentry, but we still go to Sentry because of the circus that is Pick & Save. I have zero patience for that. As Jim eluded to in his post, some people act as if they are taking a stroll on the beach when they are shopping and are completely oblivious to anyone around them who may not enjoy shopping as much as they do. The Sentry we go to is generally not crowded, you can always get a close parking spot, and there is almost always a bagger. I dream of a day when grocery stores stop accepting checks. My wife and I tend to do one "big shop" every 10 to 14 days and perhaps have to make 2 or 3 quick stops on the way home from work between these bigger shopping visits.
  6. Seems to be some unanswered questions even when you click the link to the timeless ticket web page and look at the FAQ's. The two questions I have are: - Are the vouchers good for any seating area (or the timeless ticket for that matter)? - Are the vouchers also timeless? Also, as someone else mentioned if it's only redeemable when based on availability then it seems to lose a lot of possible value (if it had any). I would hope that they would treat timeless ticket holders similar to season ticket holder and give them the option to redeem at the same time that season ticket holders can purchase playoff tickets. I would also hope that you would have the opportunity to purchase on additional ticket at face value at the same time. If you redeemed it for a game 7 of the WS and there ended up not being a game 7 then you would get the timeless ticket back.
  7. A) Because they are generally only open during certain days and certain hours. These are usually Saturday mornings. If you have kids that are involved in sports and other activities then you will understand that Saturday mornings are usually occupied. Even without kids, I usually have better things to do on a Saturday morning than go grocery shopping. Yard Work, Golfing, and sleeping in are 3 things that come to mind that would rank above shopping for fruits and vegetables. B) The Farmers market is an extra trip. There are still other groceries that need to be purchased.....meat, cereal, milk, toothpaste, bread, hygienic products, cleaning products, etc. I would say that there are 2 or 3 times during the summer that my wife and I have the time to venture down to the Farmers market in Waukesha on a Saturday morning. Last summer we only went once. It doesn't have the appeal to me that it does to others and the "extra quality" isn't really something that entices me make sure I somehow get there on a weekly basis.
  8. As I feared it would once the Holidays were over, I-94 WB has officially become a nightmare during evening rush hour. Basically you can count on at least a half hour drive from downtown to Moorland between 4:30 and 5:30 every weeknight. On a clear day, the setting sun does not help issues. Last week one day I took Wells to about 30th(?) then over to Wisconsin ave then to Bluemound and got on I-94 at 68th street. I think that may have saved 5 minutes. Can't wait to see how it is when there are Brewer day games!
  9. I just wish that when they hand out X-Large that it remained X-Large after it was washed. No one would ever define me as being a large guy, but I'm not into the tight fitting shirt fashion at all (not sure why or when that became a thing). I find it uncomfortable. I like to have plenty of breathing room. I have not been able to wear any of the t-shirts that have been given to me at the t-shirt handouts after they have gone through the wash, even when they are washed in cold....and I'm not going to start air drying t-shirts.
  10. Couldn't find a "Hank the Dog" thread (thought for sure there was a thread dedicated to Hank somewhere?) So, I'm putting this here as a random off-season brewer related "happening": http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/brewers-mascot-hank-wears-a-tux-to-the-world-dog-awards-173236837.html
  11. Geez..this all seems like a huge hassle and headache. Who has time to grow and maintain a garden (not to mention ward off critters from stealing from your garden) or go to farmers markets on Saturday mornings? If packaged carrots, strawberries, and non-organic apples and oranges are not good enough, then I guess I will just die at an earlier age than the rest of you. Is an organic apple really that much better for you (and worth the extra cost) than a non-organic apple? Is this really where we are? You can't even eat a normal apple without feeling like you are doing something unhealthy? I'm not sure how health care costs are so high when, compared to the 50's, 60's, and 70's, there are so many people that are completely insane about their health and what they put in their bodies. Usually when I see a list on the internet titled something like "Healthy things you should be eating". I end up thinking well, there is absolutely nothing on that list that sounds tasteful or appetizing.
  12. Not sure if you guys plan on doing a lot of rides, but there is an everchanging fast pass program that is used there that is pretty much a "must" if you want to at least try to avoid some lines. It use to be much easier to use and was unlimited (although you could only hold one fast pass at a time). Last time we were there was early March of this year and they had made the fast pass program much more restrictive. You had to get to the parks earlier and choose from a fast past "package" and hope the times were convienent for you. However, I think they were going to change it to make it possible to go online ahead of time and get a fast pass. I would advise looking into this. Also, not sure the how adventurous your family is when it comes to rides. I like roller coasters, but my son and wife don't like them at all. Two rides that we all enjoy are at Epcot, Test Track and Soaring. Test track has some high speeds but no drops and Soaring is probably our favorite (it's a simulation ride). The lines for both these rides can get quite long. Not sure if you plan on staying on the Disney property or not. We never did. You can find some really good deals on vacation rentals on sites like VRBO and trip advisor. When we went in March we stayed in a 3 bedroom house with a private pool, ping pong table, foosball table, golden tee, and a Wii entertainment system. After fees and taxes we paid about $130 a night. In the past when we have gone we usually went in early November and the crowds were never that bad. When we went in March this year, the crowds were much much worse. As others have stated, there are sites that will give you good ideas of the more crowded times of year. Lastly, I would highly suggest downloading the Disney app that gives you, among other things, current wait times for lines at various rides. You can also make reservations at Disney restaurants using this app. 6 and 8 are really good ages to take kids to Disney. They will have fun. Just remember to take a lot of breaks and not try to fit too much into one day. Otherwise it can get a bit exhausting and overwhelming.
  13. Yeah, I really like "Lazaretto" by Jack White. I'm 48, but listen to The Spectrum occasionally on XM to try catch up on some of the more contemporary music that might interest me. I was always aware of Jack White, White Stripes, etc....but, until recently, I never really took the time to search for and listen to some of his music. I have done that over the last 5 or 6 months and have found some music that I really, really enjoy. In fact, "Lazeretto", "Freedom in the 21st Century", and "Hustle and Cuss" (The Dead Weather) are now some of my all time favorite songs. I even managed to turn my 16 year old son on to his music. He put together a Jack White CD and listens to it all the time in his car.
  14. I'm assuming that if this happened that they would be in 3D as well.
  15. Yeah...I had C. Newton, so I had to pick up another QB for the semi's as well. I actually picked up two, E. Manning and Manziel. Thankfully, I resisted the urge to start Manziel and now I'm going against my son in the championship game next week.
  16. This is just speculation on my part since I have no idea what their pay structure is, but it may actually be a preemptive measure more than just cutting the current cost. There are currently at least five lawsuits against NFL teams for under-compensating their team affiliated cheerleaders. The Raiders lawsuit was settled for $1.25 million earlier this fall. The diamond dancers program may not offer enough value to justify the pay increases that would be necessary to keep them compliant with compensation requirements. Are you serious? "Compliant with compensation requirements"? Huh? Were they making less than minimum wage? Sorry, not trying to turn this into a political conversation...but just...wow.
  17. It's about standards relative to other schools. It's easier for kids to get into other schools, that's the issue. I believe that is what jericho is saying. Is it really a bad thing that the entry standards are higher at UW for student athletes compared to other schools? Shouldn't that really be the priority? After all, it is a learning institution.
  18. My only issue with that site is that I always have ID and password issues for some reason. I generally don't feel the need to post on that site that often, but when I do I can never remember my ID/Password. So, I do the whole "forgot password" thing. They email me the new password and it still doesn't work. I just tried it 5 minutes ago with no luck. Maybe I'm using the wrong User ID, but you think it would tell me that when it sends me the new password...but the greeting on the email states "Hello Patrick425", so I assume that's my ID. If anyone can offer some help it would be appreciated.
  19. I will say that I will not miss some of Anderson's play calling. I never understood his desire to pass on first down when you have Gordon in the backfield. This seemed to be the typical pattern. Pass on first down, incomplete 2nd and 10 Gordon run for 7 or 8 on 2nd down, 3rd and 2 (could have been 2nd and 2, or at least 2nd and 4, 2nd and 5). Bring in McEvoy and instead of running an option play, just have him predictably run up the middle, or hand it off to Gordon (who is usually, for some reason, coming from the wide out position). Perhaps a 50% success rate with this play. When WI was down 14-0 to OS in the 1st Qtr and started driving into OS territory, Gordon had 3 solid runs during the drive, 2 of them being over 10 yards each for 1st downs. Then, inexplicably, they decide to start throwing the ball leading to Stave interception (on 1st and 10!). I realize that in a 59-0 game this probably was meaningless, but still, at that point and time...WHY?
  20. I work downtown and live off Bluemound/Hwy 100. I have not taken the freeway home in over a year. I usually take some combination of State and Wisconsin. State seems to be quicker out of downtown than Wisconsin so I will take that and then cut across anywhere from 35th to 68th. I'm not sure if it would save any time going to Waukesha but I'd try taking Wisconsin to Hwy 100 and then either taking Bluemound into Waukesha or Bluemound to Moreland and jumping on the freeway there. Even if it takes a little longer, I'd rather be driving continuously than crawling along the freeway. Bluemound/Highway 100 isn't really continuous driving either, as that intersection can take several minutes to drive through. I always found either infuriating experiences that lead me to stay at work until 6:30 or so. Problem is that if you are going all the way out to Waukesha you either have to get on the Freeway at some point or continue to take Bluemound, Greenfield, or whatever other "side road" all the way out there. If you decide to hop back on the freeway at Hwy 100 or Moorland, then you are stuck on the metered on-ramp forever. And as coolcool stated, taking all those streets all the way out to Waukesha is not a good option as many times you are stuck at an intersection for 2 or 3 light changes. I-94 has actually not been horrible this week. A lot of people are taking alternate routes, so the speeds up to the stadium interchange have increased. It just comes to a slow crawl there until you get past the merge point. The last couple of nights I stayed in the right hand lane, but after observing the traffic last night I will try the left hand lane tonight. Even though I'll have to deal with all the idiots that don't understand the zipper merge concept (last night I witnessed a van taking up both lanes because he didn't want cars to pass him and go all the way up to the point of where you are supposed to merge), it's still looked to be a bit quicker. One of the other problems in regards to getting the word of the zipper merge out is the placement of the DOT signs and the messages they have on them. The merge is the left lane to the middle lane, but they have a sign the right side of the freeway, about a half mile before the merge point, that states something like "Stay in your lane/Do not merge". This sign should be placed on the left side of the freeway (where the people effected by the merge can see it) that states something like "Do not merge now/Merge at the merge point"
  21. The first thing that popped in my head last night when I saw this was does this mean that Austin Kafentzis will decide to go to a different school?
  22. Even if they lose, the Cardinals are the classiest team in the division (probably in all of baseball). Just ask their fans. They are, after all, the best in baseball. this thread is all over the place, but its way too early to say DM or MA is doing anything else this offseason. Everyone needs to calm down and access the team on 3/1 not 12/10. I'd rather assess them on 9/30. I understand that part of being a sports fan is to project stats and predict contenders based on rosters during the offseason. However, I don't understand this "pack it in, it's over" mentality 3 and a half months before the season starts. To me, the more enjoyable part of being a sports fan it to believe anything can happen. Stats do not tell the whole story. Stats don't predict who will get injured and every year there are players who seem to be in their prime years who totally fall on their face and then there are players that nobody has heard of who come out and have breakout years. On June 1st of this past season Milwaukee and Atlanta were in first and KC was in last. So, if the actual standings on 6/1 don't give a good indication of how the season will end, how can projected stats (some for players who have not played one game at the MLB level) be a better indicator on 12/10 (the year before)? Before this past season, I think there were a lot of people predicting teams like Texas and Boston for the playoffs and no one was mentioning KC.
  23. Slow down people. The cubs add a few players and a new manager and suddenly everyone thinks they are going to go from 73 wins and last place to 90 wins and competing for the pennant. Also, the Brewers roster now is basically the same as it was during the season and hopefully Braun will be healthier next year.....and they are going to go from 82 wins to what? 70 wins and last place? I think the division got even more competitive, but I'm not ready to say that the Brewers have no chance yet. They still have a solid core of players in Gomez, Braun, and Lucroy along with a decent starting rotation. Come down off the ledge everyone. I understand that last year was painful, but it's over and it wasn't nearly as painful as say, the years between 1997 and 2004. Let's not bury the Brewers before the next season even starts. This is a Brewer Fan site..correct?
  24. You are not kidding. I live in Waukesha and work in Milwaukee,[sarcasm]so the zoo interchange project has been a pleasure[/sarcasm]. Last night was the first night of the one lane being closed going West Bound. I took Canal St. to Miller Park Way and then merged on the WB 94 from there (I don't care what they say...none of the alternate routes they suggest would save you any time or headaches at all). So, I was in the left lane and when I got near the point where that lane ended, the car in front of me merged way too soon. So, instead of following his example and fouling up the whole thing...I went ahead of him behind other cars in the left lane that were trying to follow the zipper merge methodology. So, by the time it was "my turn" I was merging in front of the car that I passed and he/she was not happy about it, but if they had just stayed in the left lane instead of merging at the first opening they saw, that would not have happened! [sarcasm]Oh yeah...I'm really looking forward to my drive home over the next 12 months.[/sarcasm]
  25. Thanks for the advice! Webroot Secure is one that I see getting good reviews on various sites, so I think I'm going to go with that. I found a version for $29 that you can install on 5 devices (which will cover just about all the needed devices in our house).
