  1. I think most new drivers struggle with this. I wouldn't worry about it. I'll never understand why they put any weight on this part of the driving test...especially in WI. I'm not sure where you live or what your parking situation is, but most people do not have to do a whole lot of parallel parking in Milwaukee or in WI in general. Even if you do, it's not something that is really that dangerous if you don't know how to do it....and if for some reason it is something that you end up having to do a lot, you will eventually become a pro at it. It's not some that any driver should be expected to be perfect at before they even have their license.
  2. Don't agree with SFs decision not to start Bumgarner tonight. He is clearly their ace and I don't think the rest of their staff is that outstanding. It's the World Series! What are you saving him for? He will have the entire rest of the off-season to rest.
  3. Not all 20 game ticket holders have Sunday tickets (I have the Saturday package, no Sunday games included), so I don't think they will handle it that way. It will be interesting to see how they do get these items to fans that choose this option. I normally do the payment plan, but I think I'll pay early this year and take the food vouchers. Also I assume all or most of the Sunday giveaways are bobble heads. Could not find a promotion schedule anywhere on the Brewer site, so I'm assuming it's not out yet. I would hope that they would release this before the Nov. 20th deadline so that people could see what they are getting if they choose the promotion items.
  4. I'm a little confused by what you mean by "pulled through". Do you mean that the front of your car was facing outward from the parking spot. If that's the case, how do they know that you didn't back in? Is the rule against the way your car is facing or the way you drove your car into the spot? Edit: I'm guessing their issue is the direction the car is facing. The only two reasons I can come up with this rule is because A) While it's the law to have two plates on your car (one in back and one in front), some people only have one plate on their car and in most of these cases, the plate is on the back and B) It's easier to identify the make/model of a car from behind (because generally that is where the car companies place that information). These two items would be important if they ever had to report an issue with one of the cars parked in the lot. If by chance their issue is with the actual act of "pulling through", the only thing I can think of is that it's a little dangerous because you may not notice someone that is trying to pull in forward from the other side.
  5. I would think that this is probably a discussion for the political thread.
  6. So, retrieved my paper from the paper box this morning and this was on the front page (the Paper copy just states "NED YOST DOESN'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK", with NED YOST in bold Blue). http://www.jsonline.com/sports/ned-yost-doesnt-care-what-you-think-about-him-b99374456z1-279867492.html
  7. Not a huge Apple consumer. My wife has an IPad mini that she got as a gift and a work issued Iphone. My son has a school issued IPad. However, I prefer android devices. How well does Roku work with those? (It has always bugged me that it is assumed that everyone that has a cell phone or tablet owns an Iphone or Ipad.) The cable box replacement thing intrigues me. So, what channels won't I get? Will I still be able to get HD channels? Will I be able to get Fox Sport WI?
  8. Regarding your second question, I'm not experienced with them, but you can buy a Chromecast for like 35 bucks, assuming your TV has HDMI inputs. You would also need to have a wifi network in your house. So would this give me full internet? If so, why wouldn't I just get this instead of Roku? If I can get the internet on my TV, can't I just go to the Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, or whatever website and watch what I want to watch?
  9. So, new forecast maps out today. Temperature forecast now calling for an equal chance of above, below, or normal. However, the precipitation forecast is still at below normal: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/lead02/off02_temp.gif http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/lead02/off02_prcp.gif
  10. This is interesting. I hope it's a trend that continues. It also prompts some questions I have that I hope maybe others can help answer: - Question 1) I started a thread about this a year or so ago, but thought I would revive the question in case there are services that have popped up since then. Are there any good alternatives to Netflix? By good alternatives I mean services that have a wide selection of streamable recent movies included in the standard monthly fee? By recent, I mean movies such as "Wolf of Wallstreet" or "American Hustle". These movies might possibly be on Netflix by 2018, but I'm guessing they will never be on Netflix. Netflix sucks when it comes to movies. Does Amazon Prime offer movies like this with their standard subscription? I can't believe that in this day and age that I still have to go to my local Red Box to get movies like this or pay individually through TWC's "Movies on Demand" service (assuming I can catch the small window of time that some of these movies are available). - Question 2) We do not have an internet ready TV and the blu-ray player that we use to access NetFlix is old and only limited services are available on it (Hulu, Pandora, Netflix, one or two others?). We have an XBox, but it's in my son's room and I don't want to have to move it back and forth every time we want to use it (and I don't want it in the family room permanently). So, how do I get internet or Amazon Prime (if I choose to purchase that) on my TV without buying a new TV or blu-ray player?
  11. Just got an email from the Brewers with a fan survey. Not sure if anyone else has seen this or taken the survey, but I thought it was really interesting. Several questions in there dealing with player attitudes. From comments made by Attanasio at the end of the season to this recent survey, it seems fairly evident that there were some players that Mark A. had an issue with as far as their efforts on the field. It would be interesting to know if there were specific instances or comments made by certain players that he thought set a negative tone.
  12. Maybe it's just me but, but Cal Ripken reminds me of Lucy's Halloween mask in "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" Also, personally, I really enjoy the "Seven Nation Army" chant from the O's fan...but to each there own. Love the energy in the stadium. Still rooting for the Royals though.
  13. Regardless of the differences in penalties for getting caught driving drunk vs. getting caught texting and driving (difference is more significant in most states, but not necessarily in WI), people are more likely to want to try to keep the drunk driving violation a secret. You might say to someone at work, "Yeah, I got stopped last night for texting and driving", but you are probably not going to be as candid with others about a DUI situation (especially at work). This is what I mean about the differences in "stigma" or "shame" between the two acts. One act seems to speak more about your character as a person than the other, even though both acts are signs of negligent behavior.
  14. The ability to spend a lot doesn't guarantee a playoff birth, but it doesn't hurt. To me, the 3 biggest differences between the "haves" and "have nots" in baseball are: A) When a "have" signs a player to a LT big money contract and that player flops or is injured through much of the contract, it doesn't have as big as impact because... B) A "have" team can go out and pick up players (to fill in for injuries or players who are not playing well) whenever it wants without much concern for that player's current contract. C) There are certain FAs every year that only the big time "haves" really have any shot at. Guys like Grienke, Fielder, etc. This is the one that possibly bother's me the most and leads to teams like the Brewers spending what money they have on the Suppans and Wolfs of the FA market. BTW - the Astros are the 30th ranked team and the Marlins are not in that original post (Tampa is in twice in the NL and AL East). I'm guessing the Marlins rank 28th or 29th.
  15. Yes, this is abundantly clear.
  16. I'm talking about now vs. the 70's or 80's - regardless of the state.
  17. Amen turborickey. This topic has come up before and I have said this before, but I'll say it again. I live in Waukesha and work in Milwaukee. Many times I feel like I'm the only one on the road to and from work (mostly from work) that is not texting. Yes, the indicators are similar to drunk driving...usually they do not maintain a constant speed, drift in and out of their lane, and they leave way too much space between them and the car in front of them (until of course traffic comes to a stop and they notice at the last second and slam on their brakes). I have yet to come up with a good way to vent my frustration toward a driver in front of me (or in back of me) when I can see their face in the sideview or rearview mirror (theirs or mine) and their eyes are going up and down. My hope is that it becomes as shameful as drunk driving. I believe MADD really helped curb drunk driving and the general public attitude towards drinking and driving. There needs to be some organized movement like that again, this time directed at texting and driving. I know efforts have been made, but I don't feel that they have been overly effective.
  18. I've always asked for my money back from the postseason down payments. I prefer to use the 5 month payment plan that the Brewers offer unless they decide to offer something much more substantial than a signed baseball (or whatever they tend to offer) for paying off the entire amount early.
  19. Try having a teenage son or daughter sometime (especially one involved in a relationship). Five minutes would be an eternity for my son not to check his cell phone. This is probably the biggest ongoing battle in our house.
  20. The "strawman" argument is the far-flunged thought that there is an increased risk or danger of people waiting longer to enter the stadium. There is not an increased risk outside because of the metal detectors. People are not "trapped" and the lines are really not any worse with or without the metal detectors. I go to 20 games a year. Every time there is more than 25K or so people attending a game there are lines outside the stadium to get in (not to mention the lines at the ticket windows). Sounds like your argument is that there should never be a scenario where people have to wait for something because they are "trapped" and that's dangerous. Being trapped would be sitting in the middle of a crowded section in the stadium when someone starts to open fire. Have fun trying to escape from that situation. Advantage Schneider keeps bringing up these instances where people are attacked in parking lots as a reason to not have metal detectors when entering the stadium. I don't see how the 2 are related. My point is that A) these are usually non-weapon related attacks and could happen inside or outside the stadium (with or without metal detectors) and B) Just because bad things happen in less controllable environments, doesn't mean that we should not try to take steps to control areas that are more controllable.
  21. So...If someone get's beat up in an airport parking lot or if someone sets off a bomb in an airport parking lot, then they should just do away with all the security that they currently have before you board a plane? So you rather be reactive than proactive? Scenario.... MLB decides not to install metal detectors. Someone brings a gun in and starts shooting up their section in the middle of the game and then everyone is confounded that MLB did not have the proper security in place. Of course it's a C.Y.A. thing and I have no problem with that. All security measures are basically C.Y.A. things. It's not like before the security measures there were no lines. Like I said, when I went to the Saturday game towards the end of the season when they had detectors I think we may have stood in line an extra 2 or 3 minutes. For some people it took a lot longer because, for whatever reason, they decided to get in the longest line and stay there (even when there were several shorter lines that were moving quicker).
  22. I assume that you are kidding. Otherwise, a couple of cold and rainy days at the beginning of October and ready to assume that all Winter will be cold and wet??
  23. I get the hatred for St. Louis. However, I always get the feeling that most of the East and West coast hatred towards the Cards (mostly East Coast) is not for the same reasons we hate StL. It's more on par with people in the middle part of the country hating the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, etc. I think if Milwaukee, KC, or Minnesota had the same successful history that the Cards had, they would feel the same animosity from the 2 coasts. It disrupts their whole belief system that that other parts of the country can't possibly have anything going for them and why would anyone want to live there. I'm not trying to defend St. Louis, I would love nothing more to see them get swept in humiliating fashion by LA. I'm just saying that people in places like NY have different motives for hating any part of the country that is able to find success outside of what they view as the center of the universe.
  24. I really only use them because I have them. Once my current batch is gone, I doubt I'll get any more. I also sell things for people on eBay. It's easier to write out a check then give someone and odd cash amount like $23.47. It's not that I never use checks. There are times when you don't have a choice. In regards to your EBay check writing issue, most banks allow you to pay individuals directly from your checking account. You can usually set it up to automatically deposit in their account (they usually get sent an email that gives them steps to complete) or you can have your bank send them a check from your account and most times there are no extra fees added for this service. I do it all the time to pay fees for my fantasy baseball league or various football pools.
