  1. I still hear that term occasionally as well. Many times it's when an IT person is trying to resolve Internet connectivity issues and states they will try to "ping my computer". However, I do also hear it used in place of someone sending me an email or text. Doesn't bother me. I just view it as different way of saying something, just like when someone says "Hey, give me a buzz sometime", meaning "call me some time".
  2. Count down to someone suggesting that PEDs were not the cause of the increased offensive numbers...3...2...1....
  3. Do you mean standing line or car line? The standing line wasn't that bad for us. Entered behind home plate. Outlander's comment about people lined all the way to Helfaer is because people are not all that observant or smart sometimes. We walked up the path next to Helfaer and there was a jam right at the top of the path. People walking up that path just stopped where everone else had stopped (thus forming a very long line). Well, there are two entrances right by home plate (not including the "club seats express entrance") and multiple lines for each entrance. People just seemed to "accept" that line (next to Helfaer Field) without really seeing that there were other much shorter and faster moving lines that they could go to. We entered with our car off of Miller Parkway going south. We have preferred parking and that's the route we always take. I would say it took us close to a half hour to get a parking spot from the time we exited I94 to go south on Miller Parkway. Normally it's not that big of an issue, but there have been a couple of times where the backup has been very long.
  4. Don't have a problem with the metal detectors and didn't really notice a huge difference in time to get in when we went to the game on Saturday. My bigger issue this year has been the preferred parking chaos that has happened for some of the games. I'm not sure what has changed, but I don't recall seeing these kinds of snarls in previous years.
  5. I guess we just disagree then. It just seems logical to me that if a player makes an obscene gesture towards fans, home or away, he get's tossed.
  6. Yeah..I don't see the difference between flipping fans off and doing what he did. I have been one of Braun's biggest critics on this site, but I don't see him ever reacting to all the abuse he takes from fans on the road. I give him a lot of credit for that.
  7. I have absolutely no problem with the umps tossing him after that.
  8. I had no idea that Saturday was a Hank Bobblehead promotion until I read your post Hawing. Ughhh...we have tix to that game. I always wondered why they only do bobbleheads on Sundays. Sure, the day they do one on a Saturday (we have the Saturday season tix package) it has to be a Hank Bobblehead.
  9. I read a couple of days ago that Mel Brooks just got honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. How did it take this long for that? Seems like there are a lot lesser known stars that have gotten this honor a lot sooner in their careers.
  10. Why? You don't enjoy that extra hour of daylight in the warm summer months? Do you work 2nd shift?
  11. You sound pretty shocked that fans could be disappointed that their team that was not long ago 6 games up in the division is now out of a playoff spot. Being in first place all season and then losing 16 of 19 games will dampen some spirits, preseason predictions be damned. Yeah, that stinks, but right now I'd still rather be us than the Cubs, D-Backs, Rangers, or Red Sox. I've been a Brewer Fan since the mid 70's and have seen a lot more disappointing seasons than this. In almost 40 years of being a fan, the Brewers have reached the playoffs a total of 4 times and in most years have been out of the race by July. So yes, despite being disappointed about how they have played over the last 2 weeks, I'm thrilled that they are still in the hunt for a playoff spot on September 12th. It's an optimism thread!!
  12. Yeah..the first time we went to Spring Training (13 or 14 years ago?) we arrived on the weekend that DST begins. We thought great, an extra hour of daylight and pool time during our vacation! Then...quickly realized that DST was not observed in AZ...bummer!
  13. The Pirates are 1.5 games ahead of us yet the atmosphere there is a lot more positive than here in Milwaukee. If Milwaukee started out the season 1-13 and we were in the position we are now, we would be thrilled. When it comes to fan attitude, I guess it's all about timing...but I still believe this team is capable of going 11-5 or 12-4 the rest of the way and making the playoffs with room to spare. This is a team that was predicted to finish no higher than 4th and given pretty much no chance to contend in most of the national pre-season predictions. Even here, on the brewerfan site prediction thread , the average wins predicted by the teams own fans (who are generally much more optimistic before the season starts) was between 83 and 84. If they play .500 the rest of the way they reach that optimistic prediction.
  14. Basically you use the "D" from March through October (Daylights Savings Time) and the "S" the rest of the year (Standard Time).
  15. Who cares about the Brewers at this point. ^^^^ THIS I have tickets to the Marlins game this week, and the only reason I'm going is because my wife doesn't think she's ever seen the Marlins before. I'm done with this season, thank god the Packers are here so I can save my sanity. Am I on the correct site? This is the Brewerfan site...right?
  16. So, I went back and looked at the Brewer schedules since 1970. In 46 years (including next year) the Brewers have opened at Home 17 times and ended the season at home 18 times. So, it seems like, for the most part, they tended to get the short end of the stick. Some interesting notes: - From 73 to 81 the alternated every year Away and Home for the opener (that was probably what I was remembering in my post above). They also alternated every year from 84-88. - For 10 straight years (96 - 05) they opened the season on the road. So even after Miller Park was built, it took the geniuses putting together the schedule 4 or 5 years to realize that the Brewers now had a roof. - Next year will be the 4th year in a row opening at Home. Prior to that there were only 2 times in Brewer history where they opened consecutive seasons at Home (06-07 and 94-95). - In both 90 and 95 they opened the season with a 2 game Home and Away series against the White Sox.
  17. I'm not sure when it changed but back in the 70's or 80's I'm pretty sure it alternated every year. Teams opened the season at home and closed the season on the road one year and then the next year it was the opposite (opened on the road, closed at home). Then at some point I believe they decided to tilt home openers to teams in warmer climates and teams that had roofs. I'm believe that Milwaukee (in County stadium) went through several years of not opening at home.
  18. This was in the weekly "Brewer Bits" email from our ticket rep: • In 2007, the Colorado Rockies were 76-72 and 6.5 games out with 14 games left. They won 13 out of 14, a play-in game and 7 consecutive in the playoffs to reach the World Series. • In 2011, the St. Louis Cardinals were 8.5 games out of the only wild card spot on September 4th. They ended up winning the World Series. Keep hope alive!
  19. Stub Hub allows users to do a search that excludes alcohol-free sections but not an option to search only for alcohol-free sections. Those sections exist for a reason. Seems logical that they would allow users to seek out those sections when they do a search.
  20. Seems like the general consensus regarding the weather in SE WI this summer was that it was cold and rainy. I didn't get that feeling about the Summer weather we had. It wasn't hot, but I didn't think it was cold and I didn't think there was an unusual amount of rain this Summer. My son's baseball team ended up playing 32 games this Summer. I think only 2 were postponed by rain, but they were eventually played. I guess there were some cooler nights because there were not many 90 degree days. However, people seem to be complaining about the "lousy" Summer. I don't see it. If we had several days in the 90's people would be complaining that it was too hot. Sometimes people are hard to please.
  21. Huh? Didn't get "if we make the playoffs so be it, if we don't so be it" at all from listening to that interview. I got "all we can do is play and try our hardest and hopefully that's enough to get the job done". Like he said, can only focus on the things you can control. Sounds like interviews that I have heard thousands of times from other athletes. I didn't hear any apathy at all.
  22. Yes, but right now the Crew is looking shocking like that team you just described. Again...this is an optimism thread!! My point is that last year (and in many Brewer years), by the time June came around (or earlier!) we were pretty much thinking about the upcoming football season or already looking ahead to this year. It's September and the Brewers still hold a wild card spot. They have one less win right now than they did all of last season!
  23. Last year at this time the Brewers were 59-79 and 22 games out of 1st place.
  24. Not that cheap either. WS tix will probably go for 2 or 3 times face value on stub hub.
  25. C'mon Hawing...don't be ashamed of your VIPism. Let it shine!
