  1. <-----------Jealous. And wish I had the hookups to do so. Spring training probably helps, but I won't get down there again for a few years.
  2. That's why I like this thread, it's designed for discussion. If we all agreed, we'd have the first post, and then 25 "I agree" replies, then it'd be over. Obviously Sabbathia only had one half season. But man, what an incredible one half season. Without the playoffs, he would have been left off for me. Braun is still current, but if he's not on the list when his contract expires, I'll come back to this thread and edit it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif When I ran the Brew Crew myspace page (RIP, thanks MLB), I had a list that was a little different paying more attention to numbers (based purely on numbers in Milwaukee). The list given I came up with was pretty much off the top of my head.
  3. It's such a toss up between Cooper and Scott in my mind. Both could hit, and both could field. Is George Scott still active in baseball anywhere? I've known his name for years, but he was out of baseball when I was a few years old (if not sooner), so besides numbers, I don't much about him.
  4. Starting Lineup Paul Molitor 2B Robin Yount SS Cecil Cooper 1B Ryan Braun LF Greg Vaughn DH Jeromy Burnitz RF Gorman Thomas CF Jeff Cirillo 3B Ted Simmons C Starting Staff: CC Sabathia SP Teddy Higuera SP Don Sutton SP Pete Vuckovich SP Mike Caldwell SP Bench: George Scott Don Money BJ Surhoff Scott Podsednik Bullpen: Moose Haas - LR Jim Slaton - RP Bill Castro - RP Carlos Villanueva - RP Dan Pleasac - SU Rollie Fingers - CL When you put the DH in there, it makes things a little tougher. Probably should have one more bullpen guy. At any given time, Ben Sheets is on the DL so he didn't make the list.
  5. Maybe a better example from BHF woulda been if you got cleats from some guy, and had another player sign them. I can see both sides of the arguement, and matt is right that every person values each item a bit differently. I've considered getting game used bats signed by players, but never did because as BHF said, I'd rather have the bat signed by the person who used it. Obviously I wouldn't get a Geoff Jenkins bat signed by Corey Hart, or other such nonsense. Either way, thanks for your feedback.
  6. I have a quick question, how much is the true value of a game used bat by an unknown player, signed by someone else? For the sake of the question, let's just say Ryan Braun. I see these on eBay often enough, some Louisville Slugger used by an unknown player, signed by someone else. I don't know why anyone would want to get a game used bat, signed by a player that didn't use it. Can someone explain this to me, I'm at a loss. How much is the difference in value from a bat signed by the player that used it? (Again, just use Braun for the sake of example) Edit: For store bought bats, what model do you normally purchase? Do you stick to one size? How much do they generally sell for? Any other specifics play into your choice (color, etc?)
  7. They better be playing at Shank Hall. Just sayin'
  8. When my dad was a kid, he got to see Warren Spahn's house in Tosa. He had a railing goin upstairs and the balcony made out of bats. Sounds awesome, good luck with your project.
  9. At the time it didn't come off as very playful. Poking fun at a guy you work with in the booth, or yourself, is said in a different tone than his mentions of Koskie. I heard the Matheny part, and his talks, but Uecker made Matheny out to be some kind of hero (He wanted in the lineup the next day to not become "gunshy"). That's just my take on the whole thing, Uecker may have been playing around, but his tone wasn't coming off that way.
  10. Uecker was just talking about Koskie during the game. He said he signed with Kansas City (I'm sure he meant Chicago), then followed that up with "Is he still wacked out?" followed by "remember when he came to Milwaukee saying he was okay, well, he wasn't" It seemed out of character for Uecker to come off like a jerk on the radio. In person it's coming to be expected.
  11. I'm gonna go down there early next week and pick up the bobblehead game tickets after work, assuming they are still available. I went down to the Keg last night, and tents were wrapped from the starting point, near friday's all the way around until centerfield. It was something else. Apparently some guys were camping out in the parking lot, not in line, for some reason. That giant cardboard shack was pretty messed up, but it was in much better shape than the guy who built it. Either he was a complete wackjob, or just totally sleep deprived and deep into a 3 day bender. I'm leaning towards the latter.
  12. Those are the few hunderd or so I'm referring to. Some Uecker seats as well, so that's another 50-60 (I think there's 120 Ueckers?)
  13. Yeah, I like that page a lot. I'm pretty new to it, but use it to list all the cities my band(s) have played. Is there a better way to track certain cities other than typing in the name? I can't manage to put in the city and state. Everything seems to be listed as City, Country. Which makes finding Springfield on a map kinda difficult once there's a lot of thumbtacks, along with other city names in multiple states.
  14. Bucksbeat, that makes sense for any other day of the year. I won't argue that at all. If you aren't camping out for opening day tickets, I wouldn't have done it. But the Brewers sell tickets early at the box office prior to when the online ticket sales start. I think one hour prior. However, I don't know anyone who can argue why they shouldn't do that, especially the conditions of the weather in February. One more note, last year, I asked them to get the 4 best tickets I could get. They were like 15th row behind homeplate. $625 for the four. I turned it down and got terrace reserved. Also, the "obstructed" seats they have aren't like the obstructed seats at say Wrigley. That usually means, there's a railing near you so you might not be able to see the foul territory as well, but everything on the field is perfect. There's only a few hundred of truly obstructed seats at the Keg IMO. I think the Brewers reserve close to 2000 tickets for the people campin out.
  15. Last Saturday a buncha guys showed up and the Brewers told them to go home. TH (I think) blogged about it on jsonline. This is the first year in 3 years I haven't done it. 2006 I didn't know how to go about getting group tickets, and stayed there for one night to get 50. 2007, first one in line at 2pm on that Thursday, got 66, sold 16 on eBay and made like 750 dollars. Not having a job at the time, paid two months rent, and was a blast. We were also all over the morning news that Friday. Last year, 3rd in line at 5am on that Thursday. Could only get 4 tickets per person, and missed the 9 pack opening day bidding because of lack of money. We did get on CNN and my friend could be seen shotgunning a beer during the reporters segment. This year, full time job, got a 9 pack, and do not plan on camping out. Totally great though! Especially if your in college or just out of it. We stayed up late and did a lot of drinking. Brewers Camp is a great time to talk about the team, especially with Spring Training just starting, and meet other Brewers fans. Tomorrow night, myself and the other couple guys I camped with might just stop down there to share a beer or two in the mid afternoon. But I'm kinda looking forward to not having to pack up our tents at 5am in the cold so they can get ready for the big sale.
  16. I would reccomend google images or some other home bar webpage for a rough idea of what your looking for, just for reference. That's what I did when my dad and I built the bar in my basement. Then we went to HOBO and Home Depot to get the wood. I settled on going for a countertop. Sadly I never finished the bar as I ended up putting my house on the market before we got around to it.
  17. That brat-burger reminds me of the Bella's Fat Cat "Cramp and Addler" burger they had as a special last year. I never got a chance to try it out though. I was told "you gotta try it once, so you never wanna try it again" (as in, it was delicious, but then you go into a coma and your night is finished) Some of the stuff is pretty crazy, I would at least consider trying it. Some of it isn't really all that bad if it's split between a few people. The single burgers are pretty over the top. However, why on earth do burgers need to have chocolate on them, or bacon need to be covered in chocolate? The Happy Meal pizza might be attempted to some extent. French Fries on pizza is really good. We got a pizza from shuttle the other day with gyro, french fries, feta, and peppercorn/parmisean sauce. It was the best! I need to figure out what would go best with Shuttle's hummus sauce before I go there next time. When I worked at Patty Burger, we came up with the Patty Fatty, which had a buger, a chicken patty, a portabella mushroom, fried egg, sausage patty, ham, bacon, 4 cheeses (american, provolone, cheddar, swiss), fried onions and fried mushrooms. Your choice of bagel or regular bun. Unfortunately, none of us ever had the desire to make it. Soon I will make a burger with grilled cheese sandwich buns. Though I don't think I'd go through the trouble of that without adding bacon, grilled onions, mushrooms and probably a fried egg to round things off.
  18. Backupcatchers, as long as your giving handouts... I don't post enough stats stuff or new insight to get any votes. I can live with that. I'm better at killing threads than starting them.
  19. Soulseek is good, and it's free. Though I dunno if that's what you mean. Otherwise, I was hoping this was a thread devoted to your favorite place to buy vinyl online (though cds are sold too). For anyone else with the same assumption my votes go to: -Underground Medicine -Green Noise Records -No Idea Records (SUPER CHEAP!!!) -Goner Records These are the 4 I go to the most, as they distro their own stuff, and also have TONS of other labels. Most of which send you free stuff when you order a certain amount. It's mostly current punk/garage stuff, which I know most of you guys aren't into, but ya never know. All my favorite bands from the Bay Area, New York, Chattanooga, and Midwest can be found here.
  20. theres one on the bay now, if you wanna check it out...but if I'd just assume you won't find it for less than 30 ever again. expect around 70, at least...as said, they usually go for 100 and up to 150
  21. Jamie, I can go back and delete it, maybe no one will notice...sorry man!!!!
  22. Quick question, do you guys teach in the inner city, suburbs, rural? I'm in the inner city and seem to run into a lot of problems you guys are facing as well. I assume some of this gets into the suburbs, but I'm not sure to what level. Phones are a huge problem. If you spend the entire time trying to end cell phones the students there to learn will just end up losing focus since your struggling with individuals for breaking school rules. It's hard to pick your battles sometimes. Parents are calling kids during class on their phones. Phones have speakers and basically mini jamboxes and they're playing those in the halls, which leads to bringing them into the classroom. Kids roaming halls just to avoid class, then when their caught and come into class, they just disrupt class more. The biggest problem I have is the kids who show up (about 60-70%) don't do homework. These are all high school freshman repeats. Of roughly 65 kids, I have about 5 who are passing, and barely. I teach math, and they don't grasp that everything is a stepping stone from one lesson to the next. So by not doing the homework, they leave the tests and quizzes blank because they don't understand the material. I put an attendace grade in there, but it's not enough to really pull them up more than 5 or 7 percent and that's if its perfect. Part of me wants to pass some of the kids who are borderline, but most are in the 40% range. One of the two classes, not a single student has higher than a 55. MPS gets such a bad wrap, already, and the teachers for the most part shouldn't be held as accountable as the students they're working with.
  23. my favorites are rluzinski, colbyjack, ennder, brewerjamie15 and and that. my favorite for trading post guys is probably bigjase and billyhallfan. thats the area i tend to check out most these days. i'd love to see both their collections in real life, not just in pics. same for a few other guys whose names escape me. i really hope BHF updates his bobble page, that was/is great. If you want any help, lemme know. I'll at least scout current prices for you, besides that i'm pretty useless for HTML stuff. pedro gets props for his generosity alone.
  24. good luck madgrad. as far as I know that's the most difficult bobble to get, with a runner up going to the Charlie Moore powder blue (since they handed it out at a cubs game, and most chicago fans apparently broke theirs intentionally)...luckily I got one at the gate. it was the first bobblehead I ever got, and I'm assuming since bobbles weren't as big of a collectors item is now. a lot of them were probably broken as kids and adults alike tend to pull them out and swing em around till heads pop off, etc. what was the last price you saw it go for? i've seen it go usually over 100, and one closer to 150.
  25. based on the number of replies of yer previous post, only 3 up from yer current one, i'm sure it's worth the same as it was just a 8 days ago. that value being slightly higher than the other ones they put out. however, card number 2008 is probably worth slightly less since it's the last one they made. in either case, it's a Randy Johnson 25th anniversary of the bigs twilight card, I can't see it going for much more than a few dollars.
