  1. Any details on Molly? I'm assuming both places are around 75.
  2. oh yeah, Stonefly (who makes incredible burgers) on Pierce and Center has beer battered bacon. It's fattening, unhealthy, and delicious. They also have great beers they brew themselves. Great pub type food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
  3. He probably already has one at both home and the cabin, but if not, everyone loves a good grill. Maybe a tripod to put over the fire? My dad is the same way, he never knows what I should get him. He does collect beer cans and WI beer related stuff, so I got him a buncha stuff from Lake Front. In the past I've gotten him the micro brew variety packs (Lake Front has a great one) for his birthday, and he loved it. As for fishing, who doesn't love the singing fish you mount on the wall? Even Tony Soprano had one! That's all I can think of at this time, the latter two being smaller gifts you can combine.
  4. Comet on Farwell has free bacon night (I think other bars around here do this now too), buy a beer and get a free plate of bacon...and it's not like 4-5 strips, it's like 20. Totally worth it, at the time.
  5. Was Gathright a top or near top prospect when he was called up? He's incredibly fast, and I remember Peter Gammons being high on him, but he never really hit any groove or anything.
  6. Past: Rollie Fingers George Scott Glen Braggs Chris Bosio Teddy Higuera Brian Shouse Jeff Cirillo Mark Loretta Current: Ryan Braun Corey Hart Yovanni Gallardo Mat Gamels (be the first on yer block!)
  7. I don't think it ever happened. Fielder came really close one time, putting one just in the opponents bullpen, but I can't recall watching a game on tv where the leadoff batter put one in the field haus. that's only existed for 2 seasons right? mercedes probably was just scared that someone was due. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. logan, get him started now. doctors out there can repair shoulders and tendons and rotator cuffs very well these days, and they're only getting better. there are two kinds of pitchers: those that had surgery and those that'll have surgery. get it taken care of now so he can dominate all through little league, high school, and the pros. It'll take Sabahia about 7 pitches to make my salary. He could do it all in one batter.
  9. Because the Yankees make headlines, so then we get some press too. Duh! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Just for kicks (not sure if this has been done, didn't read entire thread): Sabathia is recieving $161,000,000 over 7 years. Sabathia is averaging $23,000,000 a year. If CC makes 35 starts, that's $657,142.86 a start. If he throws 115 pitches a game thats $5714.29 a pitch. I wonder how upset at himself he'll be if he walks a guy on 4 pitches knowing he just earned $22,857.14
  11. My grandpa has been to every opening day in Milwaukee baseball history (Braves and Brewers). When I was little, my favorite player was Stormin Gorman. My mom told me later that I cried when I went to the game to find out he wasn't on the team and was with the Mariners. I went to my first opening day in 4th grade. My dad, uncle, cousins and grandfather all went together. I remember leaving school early, and was really excited to miss school to see baseball. The first time I really found out about how important pitching was when my dad took me to Nolan Ryan's 300th win. I was at my friends house to sleep over, and he called me and asked me to go. I remember trying to keep score and being furious because I didn't get it. I was also in 5th or 6th grade when that happened. Now I am a bigger fan of pitching than any other aspect of the game, when your a kid, you just wanna see dingers. When Robin went for 3000 my dad took me to the first two games, but he had to go to a dental convention for the third game. I was bummed out because I didn't think I could go, but after the game, he got two tickets for myself and my friend. My grandpa dropped us off and picked us up, I'm not sure why he didn't go with. Now I'm 29, have a Brewers tattoo, am memoribilia crazy, and my friends call me during Steven's Point trivia to ask me random stat questions instead of lookign it up on MLB or something. Best game. Best team.
  12. I just read that opt-out thing on Brewers.com. Is that an unprecidented approach to a contract in baseball? I can't recall hearing of anything like that, but maybe players never opted out after 2 or 3 years. Seems like a crazy approach but going after the best free agent pitcher, I suppose you could try anything.
  13. Saturday Night Live did a sketch commercial about 12-14 years ago called the Lung Brush. It was meant for smokers, but I think this would still help your cause. I want a button to push so that I can either mute or immobilize students who are constantly talking or getting out of their desk in my classroom. I spose I could just handcuff students to their desks with their non-writing hand, but I don't think the law allows that.
  14. He actually hit all those Reds to fire up his team, cuz the Reds beat em out. Johnny Bench (I think), managed to draw a walk, when he then plunked Tony Perez and was kicked out of the game. The pirates won the pennant that year. I asked for Catcher In The Wry, and my mom said she found it going for like 80 bucks?!?!?! I just wanted paperback, I don't know if it's even available in that format, but I'm outta college, I'll never go near an 80 dollar book again.
  15. A remote control pager. There's a little button on yer tv you push, and then yer remote goes off, so you can find it next to the bathroom sink, or the fridge, or whatever wild place you left it during the commercial breaks. Then I found out they already made em, and they failed http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  16. They must have restocked the programs. When I went, there were a buncha people walking around with green hoodies, non playoffs. They looked great, but I couldn't find em. I ended up getting an adjustable nike hat with the ball and glove logo, and 3 wild card pennants. that was it. Not too big of a fan of dated t-shirts. I almost got a Branyan player tee, but opted not to due to my already ridiculous number of t-shirts. The people working there, mostly the early 20 kids were goofballs. Some guy was trying to pawn off Joe Dillon bats on me and others saying "ya know, there's a descent chance that Prince Fielder actually used this bat. Cuz when he was slumping he used Joe Dillon's bats" I like listening to hot shot know-it-alls like that, what a joker. I'll check it out next year, but I definately have done much better at the Brewers On Deck rummage, where they had signed baseballs for 5 bucks and jerseys for 25 and bobbleheadds for a dollar.
  17. love all wendy's stuff, but i can never bring myself to buy a meal that's 6 bucks, when I can get the best burger in the world with fries from sobelmans for 8. so i just stick to the value menu. Taco Bell's mexican pizzas are to die for, as are the chulupas, but again, the price you pay for what you get, i'd rather find the taco truck on holton or hit up the south side. Subway I can spend 5 bucks on a footlong all day and think it's a great deal. To buy all those veggies and prep em yerself would cost 5 easy for time and effort alone. also the southwest sauce should be sold by the bottle. and checkers usually has great deals on 2 for 3 bucks, and with their fries yer all set....as i mentioned in the bad fast food thread, i'd shy away from the chicken.
  18. Except it's more expensive. I had it once in Alabama, but I was drunk, so I don't really remember liking or disliking it. I just remember I was able to keep drinking a few more hours after intaking all the grease.
  19. BHF, now that the winter is here and you might have more time, you should try to update this. Please http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif As always, I was missing a few bobbles from last season, and decided to buy both Hardy's (retro and white) off ebay for 50 with free shipping. I figured it was at least a fair price since most retros go for mid 30's the other hardy would be around 12 and if shipping was included it would probably be closer to 55-60 (depending if I got them together or seperate) I'm also curious to see how much I need to throw down for a Braun retro, since I don't have one yet, and that's the last of the retro's I need from this season.
  20. outta curiosity, how much did the guy with 138 bobbles want? i clicked on the link, but it had been pulled.
  21. I love White Castle, but WC is a love it or leave it type place, so I understand. Though I did like the BK tacos too, so maybe I'm crazy. The spicy chicken sandwich from Burger King was terrible. There was a bun, an overcooked dry small piece of chicken with some pepper on it, and some mayo. I bought two, and didn't get through the first one. Taco Johns is alright, but highly overrated. My friends drag me there any chance they get, and it's basically the same crummy food taco bell offers, but more expensive. They always go nuts over the potato oles, they're just plain old tator tots, who cares? The double cheeseburgers are the biggest catch 22, but I eat them cuz they're on the dollar menu, and refuse to pay more than a few bucks at most fast food places these days. But then I get it, and it usually sucks, and I feel like garbage. I'm all for the value menu at fast food places (which could be why it's crap). But Checkers has a good dollar menu. Just stick to the burgers, the chicken isn't the best, but the fries are outta control good!
  22. With that price, the Crew shoulda looked into that. We payed Gagne 5 times that much in hopes he could be someone to count on. 2 million in the majors these days is like buying a pack of gum.
  23. Anyone read Dock Ellis: In the Country of Baseball? I'm just assuming it's a good read because he was such a character. Ball Four rules, as does Moneyball. I have no opinion of books on cd, but there's a good amount of stats and what not that are better soaked up than hearing in passing by narration. There's a great bathroom book available called "Baseball's Most Wanted" filled with top 10 lists of various stats, and great short stories about how people picked their numbers, superstitions, etc. I believe they've pressed two volumes, but I've seen them combined to one large volume.
  24. I can see why Hunter got in. He only pitched 15 seasons, but due to diabetes he retired. Based on his number of innings and starts his last 3 seasons, it appears as he was plagued by injuries, or fatigued by his disease. 224 wins in that time is pretty good, seeing as how if he threw about 140 innings in 1977, 120 in 1978, and 105 in his final year. He got over 200 wins in 13 seasons. That's pretty impressive. I'm not gonna make in depth comparisons of Catfish to Koufax, or Pedro Martinez, but Koufax was limited to 11 seasons and ended with 165 wins. Shorter dominate careers can lead you to the HOF. If Hunter stuck it out another few seasons and only picked up another 8-10 wins, I don't know if he would have got in.
  25. Blyleven, Hederson, Raines, Rice I'd imagine Lee Smith gets in eventually as at one point he had the record for saves. I loved Mark Grace as a kid, but I don't see him getting in. He had a good average and close to 2500 hits, but as a first baseman, he didn't have enough power to help his cause.
