With the production they were getting out of Miller and Rowdy I think getting him made us better. Time will tell but it certainly was a move worth making. Imo His numbers both offensively and defensively with the Pirates were better then we were getting…….so even a washed up Santana was outplaying what we were getting at first. I mean nobody thought we were getting a huge addition……just a veteran who could be an incremental improvement.

Another overlooked play that lead to the win was Turang not getting doubled off on that rocket by Caratini in the 10th. I know you are supposed to freeze on line drives but in that spot it’s easy to forget that the SS us behind you……..he made a veteran play there and if he hesitates for 1 more second he is going to be out.

Maybe we could wait more then 12 days before we decide that a trade is a disaster and a proven veteran with the highest defensive runs saved in the majors at first base should be released? Ps it also seems like Santana has hit into some bad luck with the Brewers to me.

I’d stick with Elvis……..he’s had some hiccups but I still trust him more then the other guys…….with possible exception of Hoby. Hoby and Uribe will also get high leverage opportunities…….as they should. We are going to need them all.

I get the reasoning……. just sucks for the team to lose a year of cheap service time……which obviously hurts smaller market teams more….. So for the player its good…….for the team not so much…..not anybody’s fault……just the way it is.
