  1. Then who would the Twins have to play 2B?
  2. I had a dream last year that the Brewers traded Rickie Weeks for Scott Podsednik and then started to panic that they made a bad trade and traded Bill Hall to get Rickie Weeks back. I'd much rather have had your dream but I still wouldn't do the trade.
  3. I guess upside-wise, it is an even trade. Hughes could become one of the better pitchers in the game and Cano could continue to put up a .900 ops at 2B. However, given the old adage that there is no such thing as a pitching prospect due to their high flameout rate, getting the #1 pitcher prospect is much different than the #1 hitter prospect. For every Ben Sheets, there are several Edwin Jacksons. I'd feel great about getting a .890 ops 2B is his numbers looked like 300/360/530 where you'd feel confident that if his average started to drop because of bad luck, he'd still be reliable to reach base at a decent clip. If you look at his PECOTA projections going into 2006, Cano exceeded even his most optimistic. So either he improved drastically without improving his plate discipline or he got quite lucky last season. I'd lean toward the latter although I don't really have anything to prove that is the case. Even if Cano had a better walk rate and was putting up a .900 ops, I shy away from trading for a guy when his value is highest, which I think is the case for Cano right now.
  4. You honestly don't expect him to improve on his 23 year old season? Honestly I don't expect him to improve on his 23 year old season. While he may improve slightly in his plate discipline, I wouldn't expect anything better than a .290-.300 average. With that average, you probably would be looking at a .330-.340 and a .460 SLG, even with a modest increase in plate discipline.
  5. Cano is a disaster waiting to happen if you are expecting a .900 ops. How many guys can really maintain a .342 average with absolutely no plate discipine?
  6. We hear legitimate/prototypical leadoff hitter used a lot. I think its usually said to describe someone who not only gets on base but can also steal bases as well... Weeks fits both categories. But because he has some power, we should hit him somewhere else in the lineup. If I'm not mistaken, the Yankees won a couple world series with Soriano hitting leadoff. I also have a hard time believing the argument that Weeks hit with less power last year because he was hitting leadoff. I highly doubt he was actually going to the plate, not trying to hit the ball hard.
  7. I'm sure it's about the 37 millionth time it's been said, but isn't leadoff the one spot where strikeouts would matter less than "productive outs" seeing as there is often no one on base?
  8. Agree with everyone who says no. I believe if we are to have a shot at the playoffs for the next couple years, Ben Sheets will be the guy who we will have to ride there.
  9. What about Moises Alou to play right with Hart in left?
  10. I think ARod would cost us about 10-11 million for the next 4 years (if of course, the Yanks picked up half his salary). How much would it cost for us to sign Hall to a 4 year deal right now? Probably 25-30 million. I think I'd have to do that trade.
  11. Only on Brewerfan can you turn a "test 1, 2, 3" post into an actual thread about something.
  12. Unreal call by Sutton there... "Come on Jenks, hit number 10... and it's off the pole, there is number 10"
  13. Can Schroeder and Sutton just stop talking? Of course an umpire is going to avoid interfering with any throw. It isn't some special bond he has with the catcher...
  14. If you do start a Madison league, I'd be in...
  15. Brilliant comment from Sutton on Prince's splits right there..
  16. I didn't read the whole IGT but where was Matt Wise today?
  17. The definition of a foul tip is one where the ball is hit directly into the catcher's mitt and caught. from MLB.com A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's hands and is legally caught. It is not a foul tip unless caught and any foul tip that is caught is a strike, and the ball is in play. It is not a catch if it is a rebound, unless the ball has first touched the catcher's glove or hand.
  18. How are foul tips never played as actually hitting the ball foul? When you hit a foul ball, play is dead and runners have to return to their original base. On a foul tip, play continues and runners are free to advance.
  19. A batter is out for illegal action when_ (a) He hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batter's box. If a batter hits a ball fair or foul while out of the batter's box, he shall be called out. The rule doesn't really just say contact. It says hitting the ball fair or foul. Foul tips are never played as actually hitting the ball foul and that's why I disagree with the call.
  20. How does everyone feel about that out of the batters box call? My personal interpretation is that since it was a foul tip (which is not considered a foul ball -- ball remains live and in play), it should have been called like a swing & miss rather than actually making contact.
  21. How cool is the 3TO column on the stats page?
  22. Just wondering if colby or anyone else has thoughts about any of the current UWM players as far as draftability and skills go...
  23. Well if it weren't for all the double plays, we could have easily won this game.
  24. Can someone just hit an around the world home run already?
