  1. You don't get through the playoffs by sweeping series. All you have to do is win them. So if you are looking for some sort of playoff preparation, Clancy, I think the crew is doing a pretty good job by winning every series.
  2. Does anyone who went to the game know if Javon Walker was racing in the Hot Dog uniform? It looked like it was a black guy wearing black pants (I think Javon was wearing the same stuff) and he beat everyone by quite a good amount. Then he topped it off with high steps as he reached the finish.
  3. How do we pronounce Salome? If it isn't the same pronunciation as Salami, well I think it should be. How about a nick name of the Grand Salome?
  4. Make sure Hendrickson knows thats how everyone in the majors acts... Welcome to the big leagues, kid.
  5. The ball certainly beat Spivey to the base... was Nevin on the base? Maybe not, but Spivey could have made it a non- issue if he was actually hustling
  6. "Khalil Greene throws over a couple of his teammates to get the out" Not to be nitpicky, but I'm pretty sure Overbay isn't on the Padres...
  7. Brewers going for their eighth attempt to go three games above .500 this season Okay, they are undefeated (1-0) in games that I go to so far this year. So its pretty much in the bag that they win this one. And don't give me any of this small sample size hoopla. Face it, I am just a good luck charm.
  8. How much does Lyle Overbay love doubles?
  9. Can we please stop defending Helm's broken bat bloopers? Helms could go 4-4 with two bloop singles and two dribblers that turned into infield singles and he still wouldn't be breaking out of his slump. The guy just doesn't hit anything hard.
  10. How much does Lyle Overbay love doubles???
  11. Someone mentioned the other day about how much Rickie gets hit by pitches... he got hit twice more tonight.
  12. Sorry, I'm just doing a test post here. This forum has been giving me problems lately.
  13. I was at the game and there were some serious issues with Jinxing Franklin after the sixth inning. Some guy in his mid-30s or so started yelling "He's got a NO HITTER through SIX!!!". That was somewhat upsetting.
  14. So when does JM make his next appearance on the DL?
  15. The only reason I asked about if he could play this year would be that I was wondering if it were possible to have the contract start as a 2003 minor league deal so he could play in the minors this year without burning an option. After the 2003 season, the Brewers could bring Rickie onto the 40-man roster and begin spreading out his payments. This way they would have one extra option year. That doesn't even sound like it would be legal, but I figured maybe there would be a chance of it.
  16. Am I correct in stating that if Rickie would have signed a 2004 MLB contract that he couldn't play this fall?
  17. Fielder's OBP just keeps rising... I would think that a promotion should be on the way within the next couple weeks. I know a lot of people think that he would get a lot out of winning the Midwest League championship, but realistically, many of the guys he is playing with wont get past AA, let alone AAA. He is approaching the point where there is nothing left to prove and it is hard for a player to develop properly when they are head and shoulders above the competition.
  18. Bill Hall with a nice hard hit RBI groundout.... Royce strikes out on that pitch.
  19. Do you have any source on this or are you basing it off of the Major League Contract that Tampa's GM was talking about for Delmon?
  20. His ERA as a starter is 6.56. Are you kidding me? You are making a judgement on him after only 19.1 innings as a starter?? Al, tell this guy a thing or two about sample size. After pitching about that many innings to start the year, Wayne Franklin had an ERA around 8.
  21. I seriously think EY & Podsednik are the only non-pitchers on the Brewers roster that can actually lay down a bunt. Maybe Clark...
  22. Philly's turf is I believe the same stuff that is used at Carhage College on their soccer fields. I've walked on that stuff. Its soft... very nice.
  23. - Players who are exceeding expectations in 1st half 2003 (Podsednik, Jenkins, Sexson, Kinney, Perez, Estrella, Kieschnick) will be around next year Yes, Podsednik is exceeding expectations, but he doesn't look like a fluke to me. Doesn't really do any thing extraordinary, just keeps plugging away every day and making contributions where they can be made. Jenkins is a question mark. In my mind it depends on how you see this season. Is it a fluke or are we just seeing HEALTHY Jenkins? Personally, I think its him being healthy. He put up similar numbers in 99 & 00. 2001 and 2002 were Jenkins' bad years where he was kept out by freak injuries. I don't really think Sexson is exceeding expectations much this year. His OBP is about the same as last year, and about 20 points higher than 2001. Batting average is down, along with slugging and OPS. Kinney isn't that much better than we expected either. His ERA is in the mid 4's with an adequate WHIP. Perez & Estrella are having outstanding years, but a platoon catcher and a middle reliever don't normally make or break a ball club. Pretty much everything Kieshnick does is gravy but in reality, he is good for flexibility. His ERA is probably a little worse than replacement level for a relief pitcher. He has been a good pinch hitter, but I don't know exactly how many wins he has been good for. - Players acquired to play in 2004 will meet or exceed expectations - The injury bug that has so far NOT plagued the Brewers, will stay away. These are pretty much concerns for everyone. Injuries and players performing below expectations will hurt just about every team.
  24. I'd assume the team would spend money at the beginning of 2005 to supplement their youngsters... Having a few quality players around to show them the ropes would probably be a wise idea. Definately. However, I kind of like the idea of having a decent team on the field BEFORE those guys start popping up. It would probably give us a better shot if putting a winning team on the field in 2005 regardless of whether the Huntsvillers produce much that year. I think its kind of risky coming into 2005 with an entire set of fresh faces.
  25. I'd rather aim to be Seattle or Atlanta than aiming to be Houston, St. Louis or the Cubs, even if it takes 2 or 3 years longer. I'd rather the Brewers not squander money or prospects trying to be 'in the thick of it'. We'd all agree with you on that, but I think that if the Brewers can add two pitchers in FA this year, They would a around a .500 team with a ceiling of 87 to 90 wins. You've gotta remember though, we'd still have all of our prospects incoming over the next two years, practically for free. Playing on a decent team would probably ease the transition for Hardy, Krynzel, etc and allow them to become comfortable in the majors quicker than if they were the only good players on the team with the rest comprised of pizza delivery men.
