    39th round pick Jose Gomez is a 5'3 center fielder. He did win his conference's Gold Glove award.

    Looked to me like he maintains clear contact with the base at least long enough for his other hand to reach around if his arm isn't swiped off by the tag. Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not, you can't do that. He was blocking it until Hill was what, 10 feet from the plate and starting his slide? That's an unreasonably small amount of time for a runner to switch course in his slide.

    They put Haniger in A-ball right away a few years ago, but I'm not so sure they'll do that with Ray, at least not at the outset. The pitchers will all be on short leashes with innings I assume, so they might not get a ton of work wherever they wind up. Ponce had a brief stop in Helena last year before going to Appleton, if that's any indication.

    A little surprised Counsell didn't light up the umpiring crew on the Flores slide. Yes, Flores came in way too wide and maybe slid a little late but he's safe if not for the illegal tag by the third baseman.

    York hit .348/.431/.648 for East Tennessee. I mean, he must be better than Corey Ray going by college stats.

    9th round - Trey York, 2B, East Tennessee State Looks like an underslot senior sign. Not on MLB.com's or even BA's list. Edit: Well, he was on a list... #27 on BA's list of Tennessee prospects. #s 1-18 were in the top 500.

    So far every Brewers pick has an "r" in either their first or last name, or both. I clicked around and of the 6-8 teams I looked at, the Brewers are the only team to have drafted so many r names. Names with "r" are the new market inefficiency.

    I'm assuming they think at least Webb, Burnes, and Brown can stick as starters if things go right. Edit: Zack Brown, I mean.

    The last time 5 of their first 6 picks were college guys was 2010: 14. Dylan Covey (HS - did not sign) 64. Jimmy Nelson 96. Tyler Thornburg 129. Hunter Morris 159. Matt Miller 189. Cody Hawn The Brewers also got Yadiel Rivera in the 9th and Jason Rogers in the 32nd. Not too terrible of a draft, I guess.

    Absolutely agree. In some respects, I'd rather hit a guy than walk a guy. Wastes less pitches that way.
