  1. We're about a quarter of the way through the season and the Brewers have a better record than the Yankees and Astros.
  2. He has 164 IP at the AA level - saying he's been there for 3 seasons now is misleading. You'd have a hard time finding a pro scout saying that Hader projects as a #1, or even a #2. Most of what I've seen is middle of the rotation guy, or premium bullpen arm. Until he improves his command, I'd have to agree.
  3. Who would you expect to say they wouldn't like to advance?
  4. Oh, an affirmative. Yes. Not affirmation.
  5. Very good point by Buster Olney, as paraphrased by MLBTR. Also FWIW:
  6. Probably not much - maybe enough to cover the two weeks he was active on the Rays' 25-man roster? If that. Edit: Well, after calculating it, 2 weeks on the 25-man roster might be around $50k (!!) in team expenses. I can't imagine the Brewers would have paid that much for a guy with no options left and no MLB track record.
  7. With Senzel and Pint and Rutherford still on the board no less. Perez does seem like more of a Brewers-y pick I guess. Fangraphs has a mock as well, with the Brewers taking Pint.
  8. Chris mentioned in the broadcast yesterday that the Burkhalter-Yamamoto tandem has been broken up so that Yamamoto can enter a tandem with Devin Williams. So expect to see Jordan backing up Devin tonight. Burkhalter is now on his own, released from tandem-hood.
  9. Have to wonder how close Middlebrooks is to the end of the line. Wouldn't mind seeing Cooper bumped up.
  10. They're on the same team and Perez has one less start than Walsh since he's been called up - not sure what you mean. I like Perez a lot, probably more than most people here, but the Brewers need to play both of them right now. Which is what they're doing.
  11. Within the past few weeks Stearns was in the TV booth during the game and mentioned something to the effect of, "we try not to judge any of our guys on 100 ABs." It would't surprise me to see Walsh get past the 100 plate appearance mark before they make a decision on him. Then it comes down to the Brewers' conviction about whether or not he will be able to contribute at the big league level in the next year or so. If they (they=coaches/scouts/management) really think he'll be able to hit MLB pitching and be a useful asset, he stays. He's not blocking anyone, so there's no rush.
  12. I'd have to go back and check to be sure, but I believe Clark did not swing the bat until his third at-bat, after seeing about Midwest League 12 pitches go by. He struck out that AB and his next time up as well. He was absolutely Walshing it up there.
  13. Wonder if Harrison is going to be sent out/taxi squad-ed?
  14. That's mixing correlation with causation. The cause of his success last year was improvements made to his curve and change, making the former borderline plus and the latter borderline average. He also improved his fastball command and velocity, which allowed him to get more swing and miss out of his curveball. His control has generally been fine. I haven't seen him pitch yet this year, but my guess is what's happening to Lopez is similar to what's happening to Jungmann. His mechanics are off for some reason (maybe trying to overcompensate for the conditions in Colorado Springs), leading to spotty fastball command, leading to over-reliance on breaking stuff that he can't get over the plate and can't get swing and miss on out of the zone. Which is not a good plan in Colorado. Or anywhere.
  15. Saw the last inning of the Sky Sox game. Magnifico got his two strikeouts on a change and a slider, which is a good sign. The knock against him has been his lack of any consistent offspeed stuff. He was around 95 with his fastball, though he was leaving it up a bit and it really doesn't have much movement. Arcia had a bonehead error to extend the 9th as a slowly hit grounder went between his legs when he pulled his glove up too early. I really hope Nate Orf makes it to Milwaukee. Very easy guy to cheer for.
  16. I agree that it would likely be a mistake to extend Lucroy, but your penchant for overstating things is pretty amazing.
  17. If Groome is still there for some reason, the Brewers would be near insane not to take him unless his issues were in the same end of the maturity continuum as Matt Bush and Josh Hamilton. And even then maybe just hire R. Lee Ermey as a personal coach?
  18. I would pay money to see Colin Walsh face off against Jorge Ortega a few dozen times.
  19. Per Adam McCalvy. Maldonado was named the godfather. True story. Not sure if there's a godfather list or not.
  20. Chapman gave up a run. Colorado!!
  21. Thanks for finding that. FWIW, the Brewers are expected to sign the #29 and #30 ranked guys, Pablo Abreu (OF) and Jean Carlos Carmona (3B). I skimmed through and didn't see any other Brewers mentions.
  22. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/brewers-claim-michael-kirkman-from-padres.html Kirkman was in the Brewers' system last year up until the point he was released from Colorado Springs on August 1st. He tweeted about not being too appreciative of the release, but that must be water under the bridge for him now. The MLB Trade Rumors piece says that he has options left, but I don't believe that's the case. Edit: They've since corrected themselves. The Brewers' 40-man roster is now full. They'll have to make a move on the 25-man roster to make room for Kirkman. Goforth is going back to AAA, I'd imagine.
  23. That last pitch to Walsh sure looked like a strike, but if you're the ump, you gotta defer to Walsh.
