  1. Closing this as he's been traded. Topic in the major league forum.
  2. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/yankees-trade-aroldis-chapman-cubs.html Official enough for MLBTR to call it official.
  3. Smith's velocity has been down this year and his K rate is off by a whopping 35+%, so I do believe there may be legitimate concern about the health of his arm. Plus his poor outing elicited a Sid Roberson reference.
  4. Matz has major injury red flags and I am extremely dubious that the Mets would give him up anyway. Speaking of injuries and besides d'Arnaud, Zack Wheeler. The Mets are very light on pitching prospects outside of the guys they already have in their rotation, so I don't know that the Brewers are going to get an impact arm from the Amazin's, at least not a guy that's presently regarded as an impact arm.
  5. Possibly, though with Stearns' knowledge of the Astros system, I assume there would also be a few under-er the radar lottery ticket types coming back as well. That's how the Astros got Martes in the first place.
  6. Don't see how d'Arnaud has much trade value at the moment. He's not going to stick behind the plate and can barely stay on the field anyway. Even if the Brewers thought he'd be able to handle third base and were confident that his injury issues are not a long-term concern, there's too much risk for him to be anything resembling a centerpiece. I think I would take Dominic Smith, d'Arnaud, Gsellman, Wotell, and Szapucki for Lucroy and an Angel Ortega-type prospect. Maybe.
  7. Great stuff - thanks! I would LOVE to grab Holmes from the Dodgers.
  8. Isan Diaz has a 1135 OPS in the second half. He has long passed ridiculous.
  9. Er-seg. I see I wasn't so crazy in my inclination to promote him straight from Helena to Brevard. I've seen 6 of his ABs with Wisconsin, a triple, a double, three singles, and a K. Granted, I'm lucky with what I've seen, but he's hit atom bomb liners for his hits. No seeing-eye anything. Defense needs a little work, but it doesn't need to be in Wisconsin.
  10. Part of the problem with the Rangers is that their top minor leaguers are suffering from the same on-field performance affliction as the Brewers' top prospects. Gallo's still not making enough contact, Brinson has regressed, Tate has a 1.6 WHIP in A-ball, Beras can't get on base, Jenkins can't get on base, Matuella can't get on the mound, Yrizarri can't get on base, etc.
  11. Every time I look at the Rangers' prospect lists, I get less inspired. Kind of hoping the Brewers wind up matching up with the Indians, Astros, Braves, or Dodgers.
  12. Yes, Phillips was added. Smith and Jeffress both have a lot of separate trade value. It's unclear how much value Fiers had. If Smith or Jeffress are included a trade, the value returning should be equivalent to the value if they were traded separately.
  13. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/cubs-mariners-trade-montgomery-vogelbach.html Montgomery has had a nice season, completely off of my radar. He hasn't been too bad against RHB. Vogelbach was probably never going to play for the Cubs. He makes Schwarber look like the picture of athleticism on defense. Good hitter, though.
  14. Neither of those two are throw-ins, under any circumstances.
  15. In addition to Bradley/McKenzie/Aiken/whomever the Brewers would need as the main pieces, also guess they'd ask for some more lottery tickets. Just browsing the Indians' Arizona rookie league squad, Jorma Rodriguez and Felix Tati look like Stearnsian type guys.
  16. Part of me thinks that this is the Brewers putting it out there that they are taking their business of trading Lucroy into the home stretch, and that other interested teams will need to step up. The other part of me thinks this is just Olney making something up, as it is too obvious.
  17. Unexpected future value from the Sabathia trade?
  18. It's one thing to recognize that Gatewood is or is not capable of playing third base defensively - I'll trust the Brewers on that call. The issue is having Gatewood play "around the field" for now. Having defensive flexibility is great - if you're competent defensively. There's no sense in trying to develop flexibility when he's not good anywhere yet. They need to commit to getting Gatewood comfortable and competent defensively specifically somewhere and then worry about creating flexibility. He needs reps somewhere, not anywhere.
  19. Why are they moving Gatewood around in the first place? Did they re-hire Reid Nichols?
  20. It might be in the ballpark of what Smith is worth, but that is a ludicrously light return for Lucroy alone, much less the two of them.
  21. I hate to bring it up, but that idea is maybe an insight as to why O'Dowd is no longer employed as a GM.
  22. Non-catchers are rarely converted to the catching position after spending almost any amount of time in pro ball. So drafting a catcher makes it much more likely you'll end up with a catcher than not drafting a catcher. It absolutely makes a difference when an amateur is drafted as a catcher.
  23. FWIW, the Brewers did use 2 of their first 7 picks in this year's draft on catchers. I'm also a big fan of both Dustin Houle and Max McDowell. I don't know that it is necessary for the Brewers to target catching as a position of need, though if a top flight catcher fell into their lap, they should obviously scoop him up.
  24. Don't think a Gatewood promotion is warranted at all, but it's a possibility.
  25. As I mentioned last night, not a fan of having Erceg and Gatewood on the same team. Both need innings defensively at third.
