  1. Ray is bypassing Wisconsin and being assigned to Brevard County this weekend. Erceg could most likely handle to bump to Wisconsin, but that means compromised playing time for Gatewood unless you send him down to Helena. Maybe Erceg skips Wisconsin as well? Corbin Burnes would seem like a good bet to see Wisconsin this year. Daniel Brown, too, if they keep him in the bullpen. And maybe a guy like Thomas Jankins. Braden Webb, Zack Brown, and Scott Serigstad all have some control/command issues that the Brewers probably want ironed out before A-ball.
  2. Yep - see reply #21 above for more detail, CWH. And that post was put together before we knew Ray signed for a quarter mil under slot.
  3. 15th rounder Scott Serigstad making his pro debut on the bump tonight as Helena's game two starter. Peterson and Supak both pitched well in game one. Clark and Diaz with jacks for the Rattlers but some truly awful defense has left the offense with a steep hill to climb. Carlos Herrera making his second start of the season for the Baby Brewers.
  4. Each pick past round 10 has a $100k cap. Every dollar given as a signing bonus in excess of $100k counts against the pool. So a $250k bonus in round 11 only counts $150k against the pool. You get the first $100k free, in essence. Should also mention this assumes that Daniel Brown eventually signs for slot, or does not sign at all.
  5. They have $1,208,915 to sign McClanahan only: viewtopic.php?p=990351#p990351 That number goes up by $100k for each additional guy they sign because the first $100k doesn't count past round 10. So I'm optimistic they can get McClanahan, Clark and one of Crow or Lillis. They should be able to get two of those guys at least.
  6. The Brewers have $1,208,915 to sign McClanahan, or $1,308,915 to sign McClanahan and Clark. Or $1,408,915 to sign McClanahan, Clark, and Crow. Or $1,508,915 to sign McClanahan, Clark, Crow, and Lillis. The first $100k of signing bonus does not count against the pool after round 10.
  7. FWIW: Dunno if that's based on any inside information. The "look for them" phrase makes me think yes, but who knows.
  8. That's heartbreaking news about Harrison. He can't catch a break, no pun intended at all.
  9. By my eye, Hill has been a lot better in the infield this year than Parra was in the outfield last year. I'm not able to look it up at the moment, but weren't defensive metrics down on Parra's work the past few years?
  10. Many legitimate scouting sources have said that he has at least a decent chance to stick in CF as a pro. That you tried to deny it even after I showed you the proof is baffling to say the least. That he didn't play CF in college, therefore he can't play CF in pro ball is a tenuous connection at best. I'll defer to the experts, personally. You keep stating your own forecasts/projections as fact. They're not facts.
  11. Guessing opinion, but maybe reilly is connected. It makes sense that McClanahan, Clark, Crow, etc., wouldn't sign until after Ray signs because the Brewers won't have an exact amount of available pool money left until then. You also can't risk giving those guys large bonuses and run out of money in case Ray's demands go up for some reason.
  12. Guessing the ball ricocheted off of Avalo's glove or foot or something? And Avila happened to be the person that picked it up.
  13. None of those say he does not project as a CF. It ranges from BA's at worst "equally divided" to Sickles explicitly saying he can play there. That has nothing to do with this.
  14. I always wondered about this. Technically is Arizona's payments tied directly to Hill and they go whereever he goes? I guess I assume the Brewers are paying the full Hill contract and the money Arizona paid them is on the side. I wondered about that too, so I asked Jeff Euston of BP (and founder of Cot's) about it. Here is his response: Hope that helps.
  15. Two points: 1) That's unknowable currently. 2) Prospect rankings are not the end game - fielding a talented big league team is. Whether Groome (whom 10 other teams besides the Brewers passed on - clearly they all can't be stupid?) or Garrett are ranked higher than Ray a year from now on Prospect List X is immaterial. I'm interested in what each of those players are doing 10 years from now. Ray has the talent to outperform both before even considering the high flameout rate of high school pitchers. And I say both of those things as someone who would have preferred Garrett or Groome over Ray.
  16. That can work against you on line drives. You also have to be able to break more quickly in center and to either side. That's the question about instincts that Ray will have to answer.
  17. Ray has the requisite speed, but he may or may not have the instincts to play there. After playing mostly corner OF in college, he'll have to prove he can make the more difficult reads in center. I don't think it's correct to say he projects as a corner OF, though he also doesn't have a firm hold on center either. Like a lot of young players, that part of his game is TBD.
  18. Catcher Johel Atenciosent to Arizona from Helena. He played in just one game (4 AB) for the H-Crew, after missing all of last year due to injury.
  19. http://m.arkansasonline.com/news/2016/jun/22/second-drafted-signee-opts-play-razorbacks/ 25th round pick (and teammate of Riley Pint) LHP Blake Lillis is still undecided on whether to sign with the Brewers or play college ball with the Razorbacks, per the above link.
  20. 23rd rounder Ronnie Gideon was apparently signed at some point, and is making his pro debut for Helena tonight as the DH. Benoit working in the middle 80s with his fastball. Fortuno seems to have a good curveball today. He works in the mid 80s as well. He's mixed in a few change ups.
  21. Medeiros turned 20 less than a month ago and has been very young for his league at every stop. He's a long, long way away from bust status.
  22. Looks like Ray may get a little less than slot.
  23. Brewers working toward agreement with Ray
  24. Carlos Herrera, he of the Lind trade, is making is Brewers organizational debut as the Baby Brewers' starting pitcher. He's being caught by Payton Henry, the Brewers' 6th round pick making his pro debut. 37th round pick and Puerto Rican native Jomar Cortes also making his pro debut in Arizona, manning short (all 6'3 of him - and he's 17). Also of note, Ignacio Otano DH'd yesterday and is playing left field today. He played shortstop in the DSL last year, but had quite a few fielding issues there.
