  1. I think we're already there, at least with Flores. After 33 PAs? He has a very nice swing and is capable of playing CF - there's no reason the Brewers should risk exposing a guy like him to the waiver wire at this point in time.
  2. Watched a few innings of both Hader and Freddy Peralta last night. Hader's stuff is still filthy, but he's running Gallardo-esque pitch counts. Of the things that will hold him back from being a front line starter, or even a starter, needing 20 pitches to get through every inning is one of them. He also threw a handful of pitches that weren't even close, though fatigue may have had something to do with it. As for Peralta, I didn't hear a radar gun reading from Chris, but it looked to me like he was pitching somewhere in the high 80/low 90 range with his fastball. He appeared to be throwing both a 2-seam and 4-seam fastball. I didn't see any sharp breaking stuff, but I could have missed it. He was generally around the zone and was getting swings and misses in the zone. He got squeezed on a number of pitches, so I wouldn't read too much into the 3 walks.
  3. My favorite under the radar prospect was just activated by the Manatees - go get 'em, Clint Terry.
  4. I got to see a few innings out of Ortega yesterday... he's interesting to watch work. To go with his low-90's fastball, he has both a curveball and slider, and both of them seem to be decent pitches. I think the reason he gets so few strikeouts is that he's so relentless throwing strikes, if you're standing in the batter's box you know you're going to get caught looking if you take anything with two strikes. So there's little incentive to not swing, and Ortega's stuff isn't quite good enough to generate swings and misses where he throws it (almost always in the strike zone). His curve is 12-6 without a huge drop and his slider is more slurvy than not, so there's not always enough sideways break to start it in the zone and have it wind up outside. And I don't know that he wants it to wind up outside anyway. All in all, fascinating to watch for his almost-myopic strike zone management. I have no idea how it'll play in the big leagues and I've been struggling to find an MLB comp who was similar to Ortega at his current age, experience, with his peripherals. But hopefully we get to find out how it works in Milwaukee pretty soon.
  5. As Roderick said, I don't think Pena's lousy outing had a direct impact on Pena being taken off the roster. If he had struck out 14 guys over 4 innings or something, that probably would have made them reconsider. But I'm guessing if he has a normal scoreless outing, or doesn't pitch at all, he's still gone.
  6. Monte Harrison halfway to a cycle (double, triple) through two innings in Burlington. Isan Diaz, new Wisconsin lead-off man, has a single and a double as well.
  7. Groome is almost certainly gone, but Pint could feasibly slip. If the Reds take Senzel, the Braves could decide to take one of the HS bats (Perez, Rutherford, Moniak, etc.), and the Rockies have had so many weird first round picks over the years that I'm not convinced they would take Pint either.
  8. Keon Broxton should spell his first name with a backwards K.
  9. Assuming you purchased MLB.TV and MiLB.TV at the same time, there should be a link in the MLB.TV purchase confirmation email that you have to click on to activate your MiLB.TV subscription.
  10. Kodi Medeiros will start and make his Sea Cows debut tonight. The pitching menu above has been updated to reflect the change from TBD. Wisconsin's home opener has been postponed. It'll be made up tomorrow as part of a doubleheader.
  11. He was throwing with above average velocity and showed a good change-up, which probably explains his success against RHB. If they jettison him because of one lousy outing, they're out of their minds. Which I don't think they are.
  12. Final: Biloxi 6, Chattanooga 2 Shuckers' game recap: Three homers back Salas in 6-2 victory Biloxi Box Score Maverick Phillips led the Shucker charge with 3 of the squad's 9 hits, including a double and a monster oppo blast that I mentioned above. And as I've said elsewhere, he's a premium defender in CF with range and huge arm. What you get out of him on the offensive side is icing on the cake. If he keeps showing that his power surge over the last few years in the Astros' system is for real, that's a lot of icing. Elsewhere, Jacob Nottingham and Victor Roache notched their first jacks of the year. Nate Orf added two hits including a double. No walks for the Shuckers tonight, though Kyle Wren did see almost 30 pitches in his 0-4 performance. Biloxi Game Log Javi Salas took a no-no into the 6th and looked impressive, pounding the zone with sinking fastballs. Wound up with 8 K's and no walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. He's definitely on my radar now. Biloxi Bottom of the 6th Nate Orf flies out to right fielder Travis Harrison. Brett Phillips singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher D. J. Baxendale. Jacob Nottingham grounds into a double play, shortstop Engelb Vielma to first baseman D. Hicks. Brett Phillips out at 2nd. Besides the double and home run, Phillips also legged out a bunt single. Chattanooga Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Jaye Chapman replaces Daniel Tillman. Joe Maloney strikes out swinging. D. J. Hicks strikes out swinging. Travis Harrison flies out to right fielder Tyrone Taylor. Has to be a little disappointing for Jaye Chapman (and Daniel Tillman) to be back in AA. But all they can do is keep their noses to the grindstone and wait for the call back to AAA and beyond.
  13. BONA FIDE SLIDE-OFF WIN!!!
  14. The PCL spans about 3/4 of the continental United States... I'd have to think there's somewhere between Nashville and Tacoma to move a AAA team such as Fresno without having to do too much divisional realignment, not that that even matters too much in AAA.
  15. It looks like Javi Salas hides the ball well against RHB. He wraps his arm behind his back, sort of like Mike Fiers, which I imagine gives righties a late read on the pitch. It also looks like he throws a bit harder than Fiers, with more sink. I hadn't seen him pitch before - I'm a big fan now. Phillips just murdered a ball to deep left field, way out of the park opposite field. If you're questioning his power after his performance with Biloxi last year, I don't think you should be, judging by the 3 ABs I've seen of him this year.
  16. According to the box score, Zach Hirsch starting for Brevard.
  17. I just re-downloaded it and everything is current. I couldn't watch video through the team screens, though. I had to back out and sift through all of the live feeds to find the one I wanted.
  18. Surprising (to me at least) that Freddy Peralta only got 15 points.
  19. I watched about 20 minutes of the Biloxi game last night, and have a couple of thoughts: -Hader's control is fine, but his command still needs work. He was racking up deep pitch counts on almost every batter. With his stuff, he should be attacking the zone, not trying to be too fine around it. Also didn't see much as far as being able to get his breaking ball on opposing RHBs' back foot. He might have just not had a feel for the pitch yesterday, so I'm not too worried. -Orf made a nice play at short, snagging a ball hit up the middle, running to second to get one out and then throwing to first to complete the double play. His range looks more like effort range than natural range. Don't think I'd want him playing too much shortstop in Milwaukee, but what gets to, he gets. Arm is definitely a few notches below Arcia/Rivera. -Taylor looked completely lost in the two ABs of his that I saw. I think he looks a little bigger than last year, though.
  20. In 2015, Scooter Gennett drew his third (MLB) walk of the year on June 14th. He does it on April 6th this year. Yes I know he was in the minors for a few weeks, but still.
  21. When I bought my MLB.TV yearly subscription, there was an opportunity to buy a year of MiLB.TV as well for only $24.99, which I did happily. I've had it in the past. The quality of the video is determined by the quality of the equipment each affiliate possesses, so the video quality varies wildly from team to team. I'm hoping the overall quality has improved over the last time I had it a few years ago, but we'll see. For $25 it was worth the risk.
  22. Garza might be out until the middle of May. Definitely going to be more than a start or two needed from someone. And I agree, Davies makes a lot more sense than Lopez. Edit: Steve Matz was out about 7 weeks with his lat issue last year. Garza may not have the tear Matz did, but Garza did miss time last year with shoulder tendinitis, which makes me wonder if the two injuries are connected in some way. I wouldn't bet on the under for the 4-6 week time frame.
