  1. Cooper has played third extensively in the past during instructionals. He's more or less Jason Rogers quality over there.
  2. This is exceptionally low-conviction, but with the depth the Brewers have, deep thinking about the individual players was not going to happen in 15 minutes over lunch. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Trent Clark 3. Maverick Phillips 4. Jorge Lopez 5. Josh Hader 6. Monte Harrison 7. Kodi Medeiros 8. Cody Ponce 9. Isan Diaz 10. Gilbert Lara 11. Devin Williams 12. Adrian Houser 13. Zach Davies 14. Michael Reed 15. Tyrone Taylor 16. Jacob Nottingham 17. Demi Orimoloye 18. Marcos Diplan 19. Clint Coulter 20. Jake Gatewood 21. Yadiel Rivera 22. Nate Kirby 23. Freddy Peralta 24. Angel Ventura 25. Dustin Houle Other guys I considered: 26. Taylor Williams 27. Rymer Liriano 28. Ramon Flores 29. Troy Stokes 30. Wei-Chung Wang 31. Franly Mallen 32. Miguel Diaz 33. Jorge Ortega 34. Brandon Woodruff 35. Bubba Derby 36. Victor Roache 37. Javier Betancourt 38. Brandon Diaz 39. Keon Broxton 40. Garin Cecchini 41. Colin Walsh 42. Jose Sibrian 43. Joantgel Segovia 44. Nicolas Pierre 45. Tyrone Perry 46. Malik Collymore 47. Javier Salas 48. Daniel Missaki 49. Carlos Leal 50. Nate Orf
  3. At 7,000 people, the Maryvale stadium would have the smallest capacity for any AAA park in either the IL or PCL. Some AAA parks have more than twice that capacity. Day games in the summer are almost out of the question. And how many people are realistically going to show up for a Brewers AAA affiliate in Arizona for a 7pm game when it's 110 degrees, in the neighborhood the park is in?
  4. Ramirez has more upside than Cooper, mainly due to raw power potential. Ramirez obviously has, however, been unable to tap into all of that power, or even keep up an acceptable batting average for long periods of time. The culprit for this is likely his swing mechanics. His batting stance incorporates a left arm bar that makes it difficult for him to adjust his bat through the zone, and he doesn't have enough bat speed to make up for the stiffness in the swing. I thought the Brewers would have worked to fix this years ago, but watching him briefly in spring training this year, it appears to still be there. If it doesn't get fixed, I have a difficult time seeing how Ramirez would even come close to hitting for a combination of enough average and power to stick in Milwaukee. So in that sense, Cooper might be the safer prospect of the two because he has a smoother swing (albeit without the power potential), and thusly a higher floor.
  5. Is there really a huge difference between AA and AAA? FWIW, the Brewers also have better facilities in AA. Phillips' oblique issue may respond better to the warmer weather and better training room. Also, Phillips has 243 PA in AA. A little over a third of a season. I don't think it's too ridiculous to want to get him more time there. As for Hader, I wouldn't blame the Brewers for keeping any of their pitchers out of Colorado Springs.
  6. I assume DeMuth will get the majority of playing time at first base for the Manatees. His bat doesn't profile there, but he's a pretty big reach to make the big leagues anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.
  7. That would be accurate. It's also not entirely his call. It's a group decision. Stearns and Arnold almost certainly have input, for instance. That is almost certainly inaccurate.
  8. I'd literally rather players with less talent get out of the way more quickly. If Villar goes out and has an 1100 OPS at the break, great. I'd just rather not stick with him if he's going to be not good, which I think he won't be. If he ends up being moderately not awful for a few months while Rivera rides the pine, who does that help?
  9. I'm just not sold on him. He's light years behind Rivera defensively and has big questions on the offensive side. He's kind of fast I guess? Edit: Case in point why I'd like to take a chance with the much better defender: The Brewers have great defense... almost nowhere.
  10. With Rivera making the roster, part of me hopes that Villar tanks early in the season, allowing Rivera to take over. If Rivera can get hot at the plate, they could have an all-of-the-sudden extremely valuable trade piece. Or they could just move him to third once Arcia is deemed ready.
  11. I like Cody Ponce as much as the next guy, but his inclusion over Trent Clark is baffling. And the same rating as Glasnow?
  12. This is a great point. There are a number of bad teams in the NL, so in order to lose 100 games, a team would have to be REALLY bad, as in bad talent compounded with worse luck. I doubt the Brewers will fit that description. Possible, but I think unlikely.
  13. Seeing Clint Terry's name in the group of Helena pitchers makes me happy.
  14. Besides Presley and Nieuwenhuis, I wouldn't rule out EYJ. If the Brewers think he can hack it in CF, he can also play on the infield, which lends itself to the club's recent fascination with versatility.
  15. He hasn't been outrighted before, so the Brewers would retain his rights (if I understand the rules correctly).
  16. Players you definitely need to consider: -Brent Suter -Jeff Pickler
  17. I alluded to this is my pro-roof post above, but yep, if they move their spring training to Florida, it's pretty much a slam dunk that they'd try to have their advanced-A club play in the stadium during the year. It would be worth spending some more money on nicer facilities if they were being utilized more so during the season than the Maryvale park is.
  18. Maybe the Rangers' medical staff is giving Lucroy a physical as long as they're over in Maryvale? Still think the Nationals make sense for Lucroy, and maybe the Mariners as well. Maybe the Tigers?
  19. Just because of the sheer volume of outfield dudes in the lower minors, the odds of Demi breaking camp with Wisconsin are pretty small, but I also would not be surprised to see him there at some point this season.
  20. If the Cubs are giving you the best deal, you absolutely take their offer assuming that's it's the best of a number of good deals and not the least bad of a number of crappy deals. That said, their farm system is no longer close to being elite. They'd have to take a pretty substantial gut punch to their farm system in order to put up an offer even close to what the Rangers could easily offer. So if the Cubs are making the best offer, it might not be a good sign for the strength of Lucroy's market.
  21. I don't think a retractable roof would be necessary, maybe something more like the new Vikings stadium: http://www.tampabay.com/features/humaninterest/new-roof-technology-could-benefit-a-new-rays-stadium/2223706 Rough guess that it would cost $30 mil to cover a small baseball stadium in ETFE. There's also some development value in the certainty that you'll be playing ball every time it is scheduled. Also imagine it could generate revenue as there can't be many (any?) of these types of stadiums in Florida. Outside entities would probably love to use it. Also possible the Brewers could develop the stadium with another team. Again, highly unlikely and probably not cost-feasible, but someone will do it eventually as prices on these new plastics come down.
  22. I am mostly kidding when I suggest this, but I wonder if the Brewers would consider trying to build a Florida spring training stadium/A-ball facility with a dome?
  23. I'm sure someone will find actual dates, but minor league players don't need to report for a day or two, and I imagine games would start 3-5 days after that. Maybe next Monday?
  24. I completely forgot about Bremer and Blyleven. There's homerism, and then there is these guys. Blyleven manages to make Rock sound both intelligent and funny. Circle me Bert STOP IT.
  25. Completely agree on this. I really like BA and Rock, but a lot of that is because of forcing myself to sit through Pirates broadcasts, Diamondbacks broadcasts, Braves broadcasts, White Sox broadcasts, etc. Varying combinations of brutal and boring. We do have it pretty good as Brewers fans. Vin Scully is about the only guy out there who I can say I definitely enjoy listening to as much as Anderson/Rock.
