  1. Another few starts like that and it might be time to move Hirsch up.
  2. The Rattlers have scattered 7 hits through 6, including a double and triple by Leal, but have nothing to show for it. They're down 4-0, so it's not looking good for the first win.
  3. Bishop is the New Zealand one, yes? Too many catching Beaus.
  4. Got goosebumps from Kevin (nee Steen) Owens' promo this week on NXT. And Finn Balor's entrance is great, except for the last 10 minutes.
  5. If you haven't seen it, go out of your way to watch last night's edition of NXT. From my memory, the best hour of TV that show has ever produced, and that's saying something.
  6. Grabbed this from a friend of mine on Facebook... http://i62.tinypic.com/2dv6eev.jpg
  7. I would guess that, at minimum, the Nationals would also ask for Peralta or Nelson, Taylor and Coulter. If not more. Gomez is only signed for a few more years while Harper won't be a free agent until at least 2019.
  8. Figaro's propensity for giving up the long ball may not be the best fit in Texas. If they think they can get his off-speed repertoire up to adequate level, he might have a shot though. He definitely has the stuff, even if the fastball is Manny Parra straight.
  9. Prince Devitt debuted at the NXT tapings last night as KENTA's tag team partner. Wait, no. Finn Balor debuted at the NXT tapings last night as Hideo Itami's tag team partner. Anyway, they gave Devitt the same treatment as KENTA, as he was introduced by his indie name, which then changed into his new WWE name. I think that's a nice touch as it's getting harder for WWE to hide the fact that they are plucking well-known guys from the indie circuit. I imagine that this will happen to Steen as well. And no body paint for Devitt, yet.
  10. Re: the 6 Plus bending, if you pay that much for a phone, why are you sitting on it? I have and will continue to pay a premium for Apple products because they work. I've had my iMac for 7.5 years (!) and it's been in the shop twice, once to replace the optical drive and once to upgrade the memory. It's old enough that we're looking to replace it pretty soon only because the hardware is getting dated so we can't upgrade past the Mountain Lion OS (and I can't run the Thinkorswim platform anymore). Still works like a charm, though, and shows no signs of slowing down. My wife and I have both owned iPhones for going on 6 years now and we've only upgraded to get newer models/features. Our phones have been dropped, smashed, bashed and played with by small children the entire time, but they've never broken. We both have 5's, but will be upgrading to 6's later this year. Hell, my iPod is closing in on 10 years old and still works perfectly, too. I don't understand the hate that iTunes gets, but beyond that it certainly isn't a crucial part of the iPhone. I almost never open it. But, to each their own.
  11. Bradley is pushing 150 IP. The Brewers may be shutting him down.
  12. THEY'RE A LOCK!!!!1!! That was before July 31st. That makes sense. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120906010620/dragonball/images/thumb/9/90/Annoyed-facepalm-picard-l.png/640px-Annoyed-facepalm-picard-l.png
  13. THEY'RE A LOCK!!!!1!!
  14. Yah, I think Bradley is almost as much of a lock as Jungmann. The Brewers wouldn't risk losing a recent first rounder that still has a good to decent chance of seeing the big leagues. Cravy and Goforth both probably get added. Rivera, too, though I don't think he's a lock. The bat isn't there yet and the glove is great but inconsistent. How would you use him in the regular season? Perhaps a team without much MIF depth would take a shot, but I have my doubts. Weisenberger maybe, but Pagnozzi's callup may indicate otherwise. Tommy Toledo would be my darkhorse.
  15. It's a shame there's not much available back in the International League. Hopefully the Brewers can make a big push to keep Nashville, whether that means chipping in on the new stadium, subsidizing staff salaries and promotions, etc. I've also never understood why more teams don't own their upper-minors affiliates. In theory prime minor league team values would generally appreciate enough to add value to the ownership group of the parent club. Stability is a nice thing to have, also.
  16. Rogers, Schafer, and Wooten for sure. Gindl might be closer to be being DFA'd than called up. Pena and Blazek are both maybes, but the Brewers are pretty frugal with September call-ups, and if they don't think there will be enough innings for one or both, they won't call them up just to call them up. Non-roster hitters like Halton, Hermida, Gomez, Orr, Falu, and Velez will only be purchased for the big league roster if the Brewers think they can truly help. Gomez might stand some chance given how good he is defensively. If they don't take Gomez, maybe Falu or Velez stands a chance. The others aren't difference makers in any aspect, though all but Halton hit lefty. Jay Jackson or Arcenio Leon might get the call if the Brewers are interested in protecting them beyond this year. You might see Weisenburger as a third catcher. Zarraga didn't hit well in an extremely small AAA sample, and Weisenburger is far more advanced defensively.
  17. It's not even the offense I'm worried about - they might be pretty decent if Denson, Pena and one of Davis/Garcia repeats, plus whatever contributions Harrison or Gatewood could make. Diaz, Aviles and Munoz should be pretty solid up the middle; some combination of Narron, Clearly, and McCall behind the dish should be alright and Matos looks like he might be something at third. The pitching on the other hand... Wang (assuming he lands here, which is not a given) and Williams will be interesting to follow, Sneed probably won't be terrible, but everything after that is pretty fugly to project.
  18. Wisconsin's ballclub might be pretty brutal next year. Helena box scores are painful to look at.
  19. This is what I was coming to post. There are a ton of people well outside of the St. Louis metro who have been life long Cardinals fans. Anecdotally, I have family in southern Illinois/Indiana and northern Kentucky and in my experience, pretty much clear over to Lexington it's difficult to find someone that isn't a Cardinals fan. Areas that you'd think would be Cubs and Reds market share really isn't.
  20. Barring another major knee injury this season, it would, in my humble opinion, be pretty silly for the Brewers to not pick up their end of the option. Ramirez has to pick up his end too, though, and given that he might be able to a multi-year deal on the open market, it is far from a foregone conclusion he'd exercise the option. Could the Brewers over him arbitration if he declined the option? I can never remember how that works with option years.
  21. The Helena game is bonkers.
  22. Medeiros was still in Hawaii as of a few weeks ago. He's pitched a lot this year, and might stick around after the AZL season to continue working on things. The Brewers probably aren't in a huge rush to get him on the mound.
  23. Scouts are wrong sometimes? Get out. BA's 2010 prospect handbook (culled from conversations with multiple scouts) stated that the scouts were split as to whether Lucroy would be good enough defensively to be able to stick behind the plate, but his bat was major league quality. They specifically mentioned that his game-calling was questionable and his throws from home sailed to second. And that's pretty much how he hit the big leagues in 2005. The 2008 and 2009 handbooks made no mention of him being a potential backup at all. (And the irony of calling someone out for using "at best" and then using it yourself is wonderful.) The 2005 handbook made no mention of 40/40 for Rickie Weeks. Neither did the 2004 version. Also no Rogers Hornsby comps for Lawrie at any point, though the 2010 handbook did mention Jeff Kent. Which is sort of like Rogers Hornsby. It's easy to find a specific instance about a specific scout being wrong about a specific player, but when you start taking in multiple opinions, scouts' batting average on players is much better. Are they still wrong as a group sometimes? Sure, but this phenomenon of being wrong sometimes is not limited to scouting baseball. Criticizing the profession and then spouting forth your own scouting analysis is bizarre, to say the least.
