  1. The broadcast wing is in the HoF building, right? So even if he's not in the HoF, he's in the building.
  2. Gallardo seems very, um... nonplussed at the plate this year. Take a hack.
  3. The three minor league starters today combined to pitch 9 innings. They allowed 17 earned runs on 26 hits and 6 walks. Yowza.
  4. Andy Gonzalez and Hainley Statia are both favorites of mine, and both could be role players in the big leagues. Glad to see their success in AAA.
  5. Jimmy Nelson is having another nice outing, but if you'll take a look at Shawn Zarraga for a moment... the big Aruban has passed 100 PA and is sporting a Tony Senior Gwynn-esque total of 6 strikeouts.
  6. Again not a transaction, but RHP Carlos Sosa is stateside in extended spring training. The 20 year old is likely to pitch with Maryvale or Helena in rookie ball after dominating out of the pen the past few years in the DSL. Amending my earlier note, Joey Paciorek has been playing 1B and 3B in extended.
  7. West throws in the mid 80's, primarily with a 2-seam fastball, touching the low 90's. Also throws a 4-seamer. Obviously, there's considerable upside projection there with his frame though his fastball doesn't have an abundance of natural movement. His curve is really, really good at times and is his best pitch. As with all Brewers pitchers, throws a change-up, but he's still working on it. Pounds the zone with an easy motion, delivers from the 3/4 arm slot. I like him a lot... youngest player on the Rattlers, too. A few months younger than Rivera.
  8. To the best of my knowledge, Lintz was not released. He was transferred to the Helena roster and is back in extended spring training at Maryvale.
  9. 19 year-old LHP Will West has been promoted to Wisconsin as of tomorrow.
  10. Not really a transaction, but 2011 DSLers currently stateside playing in Arizona include pitchers Joel Dicent, Juan Francisco, and Eliezer Montano (though I'm not 100% sure about him), as well as one of the two catching Mejias (I couldn't tell which, though I assume it is Deivi), infielders Orlando Arcia and Sthervin Matos, and outfielders Dionis Hinojosa and Raul Mondesi, Jr. Edit: Also infielder/outfielder Yonki Hernandez. There are definitely a few more than that, but those are the ones I was able to pick out and/or recall at the moment. Also, Joey Paciorek has been playing first base from what I've seen.
  11. The Stars offense is squaring off against Mariners uber-prospect Taijuan Walker.
  12. McFarland is in extended spring training down in Arizona. My guess is that he'll "break camp" with the rookie-league Arizona League Brewers and start at either 2B or SS for them.
  13. While I appreciate Goforth's willingness to pitch to contact, I don't remember the last time I saw a guy who can bring gas into the mid-90's with some regularity have a K/9 of about 4.5. He's not walking anyone either, though - that's good.
  14. The Manatees' offense is horrifying, even by Manatee standards. I know they're not all top prospects, but... yikes. Edit: I did not see MH's post above when I wrote this. Something about great minds...
  15. Alan Williams is a horse. Also, I don't remember the last time I was less excited about our AAA team. Eric Farris playing LF? Look out, Brauny.
  16. Outfielder Kentrail Davis with a left hamstring strain Davis' hamstrings have given him fits ever since the Brewers drafted him. Not a good sign that this is popping up again.
  17. That was the worst Rumble that I can recall. When Road Dogg gets the 3rd or 4th biggest pop and it's 2012... you're in trouble.
  18. I wouldn't have believed you if you told me after last WrestleMania that The Miz would be jobbing out to R-Truth a week before the Royal Rumble. Perhaps Miz did something to piss someone off in Titan Tower... I can't imagine even WWE creative can't see that this leg of Miz' push went far, far off the rails quite awhile ago. R-Truth needs to go away. Ron Killings is not a particularly gifted wrestler and he's brutal on the stick. I think the Jericho stuff is hilarious and really pretty novel. I was surprised to hear him speak tonight, though. Thought they would have saved that for the Rumble or afterward. Looking forward to his program with Punk (assuming that's where this is headed). Cena needs to stay away from making sinister faces. My favorite part about tonight's Raw was right after Ryder was sent through the stage by Kane, you could hear someone in the crowd do the "Woo woo woo, you know it!"
  19. Tim Dillard is just a guy, but I wouldn't be against reaching a little with de la Cruz to keep him on the roster. He has above-average stuff with a big fastball, and nice complimentary pitches in a change and slider. He hasn't put it all together in the big leagues, but he wasn't bad at all in his call-up last year, and would give the pen some depth by keeping other pitchers in AAA.
  20. I forget if it was Goldstein or Law, but this past summer one of them said it was just a matter of time before Pineda gets hurt. It was about his pitching motion or something. It's possible the Mariners were thinking the same thing and didn't want to push their luck any further with him. Safeco is also one of the more pitcher-friendly parks around, so you could argue it's easier for them to find success with pitching than hitting, so a premium young hitter would provide more relative value than a premium young pitcher.
  21. Career ERA out of the bullpen: 3.19 (granted, only 62 IP, but that's still a relievers' season worth of data). That's with 61 hits, 22 walks and 67 strikeouts. He has a power arm for a lefty (even though his fastball is as straight as an arrow), he has a really good splitter, and he has a serviceable change-up. I don't think his stuff out of the pen is much of a risk at all at $1.3M or whatever it is and it may even be a bargain - it's his health I'm worried about.
