  1. He may be much better v RHB, but he can go multiple innings. He's stretched out for about 50 pitches.
  2. Dillard can go multiple innings... I don't think they care about his arm too much. McClendon can be recalled, too. I'm not too worried about it.
  3. There isn't a 40-man squeeze if they added 4 Taylor Greens to the roster. The Brewers now have 35 players on the 40-man, pending the return of Saito.
  4. Per Haudricourt, the Brewers have designated Sergio Mitre for assignment, outrighted Justin James to AAA (where he already was) and recalled Zach Braddock and Mat "The Batt" Gamel.
  5. His change isn't an out pitch? edit. Or am I reading too much into that tweet? I think thath is change IS an out pitch. But a change isn't a breaking ball, so I'm not totally sure what you're driving at here. I haven't been overly impressed with his change-up the half-dozen times I've seen him pitch this year. Don't get me wrong... it's a good pitch for him, just nothing that will strike batters out in the bigs (or in AAA, for that matter). His arm action for it is good. It's possible tinkering with the grip this offseason could yield some extra movement that results in more swings and misses. He was throwing lots more curves/sliders, and I think 4-seam fastballs last night. A lot is made of the desire for pitchers to induce ground balls, and his 2-seamer does have pretty good dip when it's on. However, he seems to locate his 4-seamer a lot better and especially when paired with his changeup, it's the better pitch. I'd like to see him spot up the 4-seam a little more and work off of the change-up. His breaking stuff is ok, occasionally has depth, and are serviceable big league pitches. They could be more effective, again, off the harder fastball. And all yielding fewer ground balls. But better results. That's my .02 on Rivas after watching him again last night.
  6. Nick Ramirez is reporting to Helena today, and should be in the lineup within the next day or two.
  7. If they're having Marzec add a change-up, and if he only throws in the low 90's anyway, I wonder if he'll be a rotation candidate next year.
  8. The Twins' team OPS coming into today's game was 651. The last time the Brewers finished the season with an OPS that low was 1976.
  9. RHP Leonard Lorenzo, suspended 50 games last July 26th for violating MiLB's drug policy, has been activated on the DSL squad and started on Saturday.
  10. Green isn't a fantastic athlete, but he's defensively sound. Range isn't top notch, but it is certainly better than McGehee's by a fair margin. Arm and accuracy are about the same as Casey. Basically, he makes all the routine plays and gets to balls Casey doesn't.
  11. I don't believe the sentiment is that Davis should be promoted because the big club is struggling - clearly they're not. Davis should probably be promoted because he's 23 years old in A-ball. If the Brewers want to see whether or not his bat is for real, he's old enough that he should be hitting at a higher level. He now has 877 PA below AA. For a college guy that might be a legit hitting prospect, that should be more than enough.
  12. http://goo.gl/9LHMQ Parker Berberet http://goo.gl/HBnVH Matt Mieske. Just saying...
  13. Milb.com is a liar!
  14. The Mariners are Los Marineros, so the DSL squad would be the Marineritos (as easy as that sounds).
  15. The Sounds have placed LHP Dan Meadows on the 7-day DL and activated RHP Justin James from the 7-day DL. James was placed on the disabled list on 6/13 with an undisclosed injury.
  16. Joel Pierce and Michael Schaub just combined to strike out 16 and walk 2. Schaub racked up 11 Ks and walked one guy in his 5 innings of work. Pierce worked the first 4 innings of the game for the AZL Brewers Does anyone have a scouting report on michael schaub? No. He's very mysterious, this one.
  17. Yeah, I mentioned that above.OK, so we have SO% from Baseball-Reference, which is the percentage of all plate appearances ending in a strikeout... Zack Greinke has a 31.9% SO%, which would lead all of qualified pitchers if he had 15 more innings pitched. Once again, MLB qualified leaders from the past five seasons, this time using SO%: 2010Jon Lester: 26.1 SO%, 3.25 ERA Tim Lincecum: 25.8 SO%, 3.43 ERA Jered Weaver: 25.8 SO%, 3.01 ERA Mat Latos: 25.3 SO%, 2.92 ERA Jonathan Sanchez: 25.3 SO%, 3.07 ERA 2009 Tim Lincecum: 28.8 SO%, 2.48 ERA Justin Verlander: 27.4 SO%, 3.45 ERA Javier Vasquez: 27.3%, 2.87 ERA Jon Lester: 26.7 SO%, 3.41 ERA Zack Greinke: 26.5 SO%, 2.16 ERA 2008Tim Lincecum: 28.6 SO%, 2.62 ERA Edinson Volquez: 24.6 SO%, 3.21 ERA CC Sabathia: 24.5 SO%, 2.70 ERA A.J. Burnett: 24.1 SO%, 4.07 ERA Ervin Santana: 23.9 SO%, 3.49 ERA 2007Erik Bedard: 30.2 SO%, 3.16 ERA Scott Kazmir: 26.9 SO%, 3.48 ERA Johan Santana: 26.8 SO%, 3.33 ERA Jake Peavy: 26.7 SO%, 2.54 ERA A.J. Burnett: 25.5 SO%, 3.75 ERA 2006Johan Santana: 26.5 SO%, 2.77 ERA Jake Peavy: 25.4 SO%, 4.09 ERA Orlando Hernandez: 23.5 SO%, 4.66 ERA Carlos Zambrano: 22.9 SO%, 3.41 ERA Brett Myers: 22.7 SO%, 3.91 ERA Not surprisingly at all, we reach about the same set of statistics as we did with K/9, a bit better for ERA, actually Median=3.25; Mid=3.25; Max=4.66; Min=2.16; Standard deviation= .57
  18. "Hey, you're a jerk... no, just kidding!" isn't that funny to me, I guess. I've lived in Minnesota about half my life, and Wisconsin about half my life. Minnesota drivers, as a group, are generally much worse than Wisconsin drivers, but beyond that... if you put 5 people from Wisconsin and 5 people from Minnesota in a room dressed in non-sports related attire, I couldn't tell you who was from which state. There's not that much of a difference. Provincial attitude? I've never got that vibe from anyone in this state.
  19. What's repugnant about Minnesota? Seems like an unnecessary shot.
  20. Those are my two favorites, too. You basically can't not admire the way the Rays have built their organization over the past 5ish years. They'll be right there with the Red Sox and Yankees for years. I've always liked the Indians. I think it has something to do with Major League taking place in County Stadium.
