  1. This is already being discussed in the Sabathia thread.
  2. It's a gigantic assumption to make that Brantley will be able to play CF adequately at the major league level. He has a weak arm and doesn't get great jumps. A lot of people will tell you that he profiles as a LF/1B, and that's where his game might fall apart if he's not able to hit for enough power. Most teams need different production than Brantley can give them at LF/1B Meanwhile, Taylor Green already hits for enough power, draws walks and can play 3B adequately and 2B well... which are both tougher positions on the spectrum. I like Brantley a lot, but it'll take a few things to break right in order for him to become a big league regular. Edit: Now that I look at it, Green's natural position of 2B is to the left of CF on the spectrum anyway, even if you think Brantley will be able to stick there. And 3B is directly to the right of CF, so there's not a big difference. They are very similar players. Green just plays defense better (especially at second base) and has power.
  3. That's a lot of periods!
  4. Hey now, Kapler is playing well! Oh... I get it.
  5. Milwaukee also might be on his list of 15, though he seems to want out of Toronto pretty badly.
  6. Correct, he may opt out of his contract after this year. But there are no option years (unless you consider '09 and '10 a package set), and no option years guaranteed if he is traded.
  7. I see your point, and I raise you this point: The Highlanders would go on to become the Yankees, and isn't it the battle cry of the Yankees "There can be only one!!!"? I mean, if George Steinbrenner isn't a Highlander, I don't know who is. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/e323588a45f3941ed71f92062473d8227c95991.jpg Christopher Lambert just peed himself.
  8. From Cot's, I don't see anything about option years: A.J. Burnett rhp 5 years/$55M (2006-10) signed as a free agent 12/05 $6M signing bonus 06:$1M, 07:$12M, 08:$12M, 09:$12M, 10:$12M Burnett may opt out of the contract after 2008 limited no-trade clause allowing Burnett to block deals to 15 clubs deal includes 8 round-trip limousine trips per season between Toronto & Burnett's Maryland home for his wife 1 year/$3.65M (2005), avoided arbitration 1/05 [li]$0.15M in performance bonuses: [li]$50,000 each for 190, 200 & 210 IP [/li] [/li] 1 year/$2.5M (2004), avoided arbitration 12/03 1 year/$2.5M (2003), lost arbitration 2/03 ($3.075M-$2.5M) 1 year/$0.3675M (2002) agent: Darek Braunecker & Mark Rodgers ML service: 8.038 He's pitched 200 innings twice in eight full big league seasons... when he's on, he's good, but he's often not on the mound. Paying him $30 million for 2.5 years in which we might get anywhere between 200 and 500 innings from him seems like a bit too much of a risk for me, but it's not my money.
  9. Cutter Dykstra is back in the lineup tonight for Helena, albeit at DH. In other H-Crew lineup news, newly signed Michael Roberts is making his pro debut, relieving Corey Kemp behind the dish.
  10. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/63415a4598db9526152569bc0c52b94b9fc5a45.jpg I wonder what has happened since? He looks pretty good.

  13. I found a picture of Johnson and Suppan together! http://z.about.com/d/tvcomedies/1/0/t/0/-/-/randy_johnson.jpg
  14. Man, the Superbas were really bad that year.

  16. Wolf has an ERA+ of 94 and half of his road starts this year have been quality starts... while no great shakes, he is an upgrade over Dave Bush.
  17. Randy Wolf interests me just as much as Greg Maddux, especially because he makes half as much and he's a guy you might want to think about extending. Then again, he hasn't been healthy for close to a full season since 2003, so it's a risk even for this year.
  18. As long as we're talking Indians pitchers, I'd also like to see if they'd be willing to part with Rafael Betancourt. He's having an off year in the ERA department so they may not want to trade him in an off year, but he's signed to a reasonable deal through next year (and an option after that).
  19. RXU#1.8, duh. Also known as: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e9/Mick_Fleetwood_crop.png/220px-Mick_Fleetwood_crop.png Mick Fleetwood.
  20. Instead of an obscure class A pitcher, the Brewers might want an obscure rookie ball outfielder just so they can field a healthy club in Helena. But LaPorta, Villanueva and someone like Bobby Bramhall or Fryer or Brendan Katin looks about right, JB12.
  21. Joe Dillon will hit 18 home runs this month... it will later come out that Joe Dillon was using Joe Dillon's bat.
  22. I was just about to make the smoke/fire comment myself. There must be some shred of truth to the rumors if it keeps getting reported on and if Melvin denies it. In fact, that Melvin denied it AND said he was motivated to get a pitcher in the same JS piece almost confirms the Brewers' interest for me. I don't know if Sabathia will be enough to put the Brewers over the top, but honestly, I've waited my whole life for the Brewers to get to the playoffs and I no longer care if we sacrifice a little of the future for a little better shot today. The only thing that makes me nervous is a team like the Rays or Phillies jumping in ahead of us.
  23. Hey, I'm just the messenger! I can't/won't take credit for it.
  24. I overthought my previous answer... Ned Yost V.
