  1. Even if his knee is pronounced fit sometime in September, he'll have gone at least 4 months without pitching... that's basically how long the offseason is. At most he'd be ready to pitch in the bullpen in the playoffs IMO. And even that's wishful thinking.
  2. Graffy seemed to play hard and had an ok little run with us. And he yelled at Ned Yost once so there's that. And a very small part of me misses all the Counselnino references.
  3. which two pitchers, and why would the Giants do that? And who are we replacing him with at second base? Counsell can't play every day and Dillon can't play second base. Trade Weeks to free up room for Iribarren?
  4. Right now with no major injuries, Gallardo, Parra and Suppan are guaranteed spots. We're not trading Suppan, mainly because he's going to be making $27 mil between '09 and '10. I have a feeling one other spot is going to go to a decent pitcher... whether Sheets signs an extension, or its someone we trade for, be it by July 31 this season or sometime in the offseason, or a free agent in the offseason (which does not exclude Ben Sheets either). That leaves one more spot open for McClung, Bush, Villanueva, DiFelice, Steve Hammond, Richie Gardner, or whomever. But a lot can and will change between now and spring next year, so any guess is a completely wild guess.
  5. 7/28 last year, at 57-47. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Technically all three of these were originally released in 2007. Here's my top ten of 2008 so far: 1. Portishead: "Third" 2. Spiritualized: "Songs in A&E" 3. M83: "Saturdays=Youth" 4. The Black Angels: "Directions to See a Ghost" 5. Autechre: "Quaristice" 6. Sia: "Some People Have Real Problems" 7. Cut Copy: "In Ghost Colours" 8. My Morning Jacket: "Evil Urges" 9. The Felice Brothers: "The Felice Brothers" 10. Dosh: "Wolves and Wishes"
  7. I think there are really two types of people who get banned: -The first kind have very low posts counts when they get the boot, generally under 100 posts. This is because they are generally acerbic posters who openly break the site's rules and don't seem to care about it or have any remorse about it. These are the types of posters who just aren't good fits for this website. Maybe they're used to saying whatever they want, however they want on the internet. -The second kind have relatively high post counts when they get the boot, generally over 1000 posts. This is because they often bend, but rarely break, the rules. These posters are usually more passive aggressive than outright aggressive and have a particular style that, while not against the rules, tends to rub people the wrong way. These posters also do not respond to "coaching" moderators give them in certain areas where they are coming close to or maybe breaking the rules on a regular basis.
  8. Brevard's three catchers are all playing in the first game: Jonathan Lucroy at DH, Andy Bouchie at 1B and Martin Maldonado at C. That's a good way to get playing time for everyone. Hitaniel Arias got his first career hit today... guy has a lot of potential.
  9. Little did scoop know, Green Day's elbow also started pointed down sometime after they made Dookie and that explains that.
  10. Only nine players in the history of the game have career OPSs of 1.000 or greater (though Manny Ramirez is close to being a tenth), so expecting him to do that very often is setting expectations too high. Is he having a worse year this year? Sure... but I'll take a 900 OPS from any player on the diamond any year. For giggles, Prince's career OPS+ of 132 would be tied for 127th best of all time. He has an OPS+ of 133 this year.
  11. I think that might have been scoop53714. You're right hawing, it was scoop. I kind of want to read that thread again... I can't believe we didn't put it in the archives! That would have fit brilliantly between the cheese sandwiches and unmitigated rage against Junior Spivey.
  12. The Brewers and Tavarez have until Sunday to make a decision about his future with the club. The story right after he was DFA'd was that the Brewers were expecting him to clear waivers, accept the assignment to Nashville, and then he would be placed in the Sounds' rotation to stretch him out in case the Brewers needed another starter later on. Whether all of that is still in the works will be a mystery until sometime between now and Sunday. I would expect an announcement much sooner than Sunday however.
  13. I'm having a flashback to when right after Gallardo was injured, there were a number of people calling for a quick trade for a replacement for him. What this thread demonstrates to me is that a long, well thought out process about how (and if it is necessary) to replace Gallardo is indeed the best course of action.
  14. "Absolute ignorant stance" probably isn't a phrase that lends itself to civil debate. Disagreement is fine, calling someone ignorant is not.
  15. The average guess in the thread was 15-11. We just have to go 1-5 to meet the average expectation, but doesn't something along the lines of 17-9 sound a lot better? The Cubs are 13-7 so far... I guess a 14-6 month only gets you one game these days.
  16. I wonder what the record is for fewest ABs by a non-Rule 5 position player who stayed on the roster for the entire season? Whatever it is, Rivera is hopefully going to come close to it.
  17. I'd say not being forced to watch Gwynn bat in a Brewer uniform ever again is worth half a season of Maddux. And there could be some entertainment value in watching the Maddux brothers in the same dugout. But like you said Joe, I'm just not sure how much of an upgrade Maddux is. He's better than Dave Bush, but is it by more than even a win over half a season?

  20. Not once in my life have I heard the name Charlie Morton. Go get... him?
  21. Thursday is the last day off before the All-Star game so if the bullpen gets taxed over the next few days, it's possible that they'll go with a 13-man staff again and Joe Dillon will be sent back to AAA. If not Dillon, DiFelice certainly hasn't done anything to be demoted so it would have to be Stetter.
  22. Mom is a Twins fan. I live in a den of Twins fans. She appeared to be very relaxed when listening to Jolie Holland, except for when the Twins were brought up.
