  1. Weeks threw it about as hard as he could because McClung was late getting there. It was high, yes, but if McClung or Fielder are there on time, he can make a better throw.
  2. Considering Fielder should have covered and McClung could have gotten over there more quickly, calling Weeks "idiot of the year" for that play could not be more incorrect, IMO. Stop bashing players for almost no reason, please.
  3. But it doesn't say "Mongolian BBQ" on the outside. It just says "Mongolian." Maybe there's a large Mongolian population in Minnesota I didn't know existed, that they're trying to attract.
  4. In some form or another, yes. Go to Best Buy, go to the Rock section and buy 10 random CDs. When you listen to each of those albums, you will find similar song structures and similar instrumentation. In some form or another, the following will exist: guitar, bass, drums. Maybe keyboards and/or horns. Even if someone gets really wild and does a song comprised of only verses with a chord progression of B flat-F-D sharp minor in 7/4 time, it's been done by someone, somewhere before. That's not to say that the 10 albums you picked out weren't really good and enjoyable to listen to. Good musicianship and songwriting skill always have their own merits. But there are almost always extremely derivative.
  5. Season 5 of Six Feet Under may be my favorite season of any television drama. The last ~10 minutes of the final episode are the most rewarding ~10 minutes in television history.
  6. Albert Belle.
  7. McClung started tiring noticeably after 50 pitches last time, leaving a lot of pitches up... I'm hoping he'll be up 80-85. It still worries me, though, because with a few innings of high pitch counts it could mean he's done after 4.
  8. IMO, more than 99.9% of music (and art in general) is derivative. It's discovering that <0.1% that keeps it worth listening to, at least for me. Edit: Math.
  9. I actually stumbled on the wikipedia entry for the Amen Break randomly a few months ago... before that, I hadn't known the history behind it either. I just had my Casio play "Greensleeves" with clavichord and threw a couple amen breaks in the middle. =)
  10. IMO, the Amen Break has been so overused that it's almost become a joke when I hear it now. It's like... really? You had to go to that? I think I have a few keyboards that even have it programmed into permanent memory. Interesting video, tho.
  11. The Brewers might be close to cutting bait on Turnbow. I sure don't see him turning it around this year. Too bad. Edit: Periard with 16 (!) ground ball outs tonight vs 2 fly ball outs. Good stuff.
  12. Guys, it is not ok to swear or circumvent the cuss filter in this thread even if you edit it out right away. Scream into a pillow if you have to, but keep the banned language out.
  13. Sometimes, yes. And I can't "keep looking" for Vin Scully unless the Brewers hire Vin Scully to do their TV broadcasts. But I can hope BA improves his game. I don't dislike him, but he could improve.
  14. Scully also doesn't have a broadcast partner... maybe that's why I like him.
  15. Brian Anderson's job is to provide an enjoyable game experience, which might not always mean talking. I like watching games Vin Scully announces because he knows when he doesn't need to say anything.

  19. I would agree that it's probably not correct to call Hardy "slow." I would say the subsequent premise that Hardy is one of the fastest Brewers is also probably incorrect. I would also posit that most people agree with the previous two sentences. He ain't that slow, he ain't that fast. He ain't heavy, he's my J.J. That's my last thought on the subject.
  20. The Brewers play baseball, they are not a professional wind sprint running team.* Hardy is not baseball fast. We've established and agreed on that much. So I would argue in terms of a baseball discussion, Hardy is not fast. I think we would also agree that there are many other Brewers who are faster on the basepaths. Therefore, in terms of a baseball discussion, he is not one of the fastest Brewers. QED. I never got the point of clocking 60-yard times in the first place. *With the offense the way it has been for much of the year, I suppose you could argue they are, in fact, a professional wind sprint running team.

  23. If Prince were traded tomorrow and no big league first baseman came back to Milwaukee in the deal, I'm 95% sure Brad Nelson would be the Brewers' first baseman. He's not "established" but he is left-handed. Gamel isn't being moved off of third base for now, and I tend to think LaPorta would be called up first anyway.
  24. There's also a bit of a different skill set involved in running 180 feet in a straight line vs running 180 feet while running in an arc/pivoting and stopping/starting. Hardy's lack of range at shortstop leads me to believe he might have problems changing direction and stopping/starting quickly. This is surely a necessary skill to be a quick baserunner. Not to mention, part of baserunning speed is instincts - you're going to get somewhere faster if you have good instincts because you'll make up your mind more quickly and commit to it. IMO, Hardy doesn't have great instincts on the basepaths. If he did, with his speed, you'd think he'd have more than 21 stolen bases in 36 attempts since being drafted. I have no doubt Hardy has good straight-line speed. That in and of itself does not a fast/good baserunner make.
  25. Since Braun will now be paid much more than Melvin, I am inclined to believe him.
