  1. We got Graffanino in return for JDLR. Sorry, I had a brainfart, I thought we got Demaria for JDLR. We got Demaria for Justin Barnes. Who the Royals just released. Remember Max St. Pierre? Man, we make a lot of little trades with the Royals. But I stand by my point. We got rid of Vargas in part to keep McClung. We're not getting rid of McClung for JDLR.
  2. We gave him up for almost nothing, and we more or less got rid of of a starting pitcher for our crappy long reliever. Isn't going to happen. I can't even say I'd rather have him than McClung.
  3. All knuckleballers (or at least, everyone I've ever seen or read about) throw a fastball. I guess you could argue that a Doug Jones-esque fastball is only a fastball by grip.
  4. I don't gamble, but if you tell me where you heard this, I'll throw down a ton of cash on the under.
  5. Apparently Chris Narveson > Claudio Vargas.
  6. Fielder just crushed the ball each of the three times he was up. Looks like he's ready. If Escobar hasn't earned himself a promotion to AAA (from AA) this spring, he's done everything but.
  7. What on earth was Joe Dillon thinking on that groundball? Could have gotten runners out at home, third, or second. Instead, he barely gets the guy at first.
  8. In honor of this thread, I have doubled the total amount of mustards in my fridge from two to four. In addition to the Plotchman's and Grey Poupon Dijon, I have added Silver Spring Chipotle and Silver Spring Jalepeno.
  9. It might be just as easy to keep Parra's innings low in the bigs as it would in AAA, and frankly we need Manny's innings in Milwaukee, not in Nashville. I'm gonna guess he'll follow a similar pattern to that of Gallardo last season, where he starts the year in the rotation, gets bumped to the bullpen for awhile, and then finishes back in the rotation. I could see him in the rotation April and May, in the pen June and July (perhaps with Villanueva being called up to take his spot) and then a return to the rotation in August and September. If it came down to it, sending him down to AAA in June and July for short starts wouldn't be the end of the world either. But I'd like all his innings with Milwaukee if at all possible. Having Simba around gives me faith that they'd figure out a way to get him regular bullpen work during that time without taxing his arm. Prior to Simba joining the staff, I was more for the AAA option.
  10. The aforementioned blog was just updated - Tommy John surgery is now likely for Cappy, probably before Opening Day. Since his last TJ surgery had a recovery time of around 11 months, there's a chance he'd be back for the start of next season. In other news, I think Manny Parra just made the rotation.
  11. Capuano has a torn elbow ligament. He'll miss significant time, to say the least. Possibly another Tommy John surgery in his future.
  12. I agree, with the caveat here being that Bush is a first year arby guy and if Beane thinks he could finally have a breakout year, he could be a guy the A's flip at the deadline or after the season. I'm sure the A's wouldn't turn him down as a component to a deal.
  13. Narveson looks good. Topped out at 90 MPH a few times, good looking breaking ball (curve, I think), little hitch at the top of his delivery seemed to throw the hitters' timing off. Stayed down with everything to, from a high 3/4 arm slot. Edit: Looks like he has both a slider and a curveball. The curve looked better, a real dive bomber. Edit 2: Kapler had a beautiful throw from center to nail a runner at the plate... one hop, right on Munson.
  14. Lineup! 2B Craig Counsell CF Tony Gwynn Jr. 1B Prince Fielder LF Ryan Braun 3B Bill Hall RF Gabe Gross SS Alcides Escobar C Mike Rivera RHP Claudio Vargas Weeks is playing in a minor league game today to get extra ABs after missing time with a hand bruise.
  15. Bush keeps doing himself no favors... he strikes out the side in the first including the first two guys, but gives up a HR, a walk and a double to give up two runs.
  16. Brewers' lineup: SS Craig Counsell CF Mike Cameron 1B Prince Fielder LF Ryan Braun 3B Bill Hall RF Corey Hart 2B Abraham Nunez RHP Dave Bush C Jason Kendall
  17. Didn't notice a thread about this, but Randy Choate broke his pitching (left) hand in a rundown drill and will obviously not be ready for the beginning of the year. So, does this mean Stetter is the odds on favorite to win a job out of the bullpen, does this clear a spot for whomever loses the Villanueva/Vargas/Parra/Bush battle for the last three rotation spots, does it mean that McClung will be protected on the big league roster without being exposed to waivers, or does it mean longshots Narveson and Bray still have a chance? Edit: Choate has actually been placed on the 15-day DL already as of yesterday... and no one started a thread on it. For shame!
  18. They were allegedly using the sub to get off the island before Locke blew it up. Yes, the next episode is in late April... the episode that aired last night was going to be the season finale had the writer's strike not been resolved. There will now be 5 more episodes, airing consecutively in late April through May.
  19. I don't have a problem with dropping Villanueva to AAA to start the year. I've always been sort of leery of CV's upside. If he dominates AAA, great, bring him back up. If not, leave him down there until you need him. It won't be the end of the world. I really think it's gonna be Sheets/Suppan/Parra/Vargas/Bush to begin the year with Gallardo pushing Bush out of the rotation until Parra goes to the pen in June to reduce his innings.
