  1. but what does Dunn's deal look like going forward? He has an option with the Reds that is voided if he's traded, so he's a free agent if he comes to Milwaukee. The Brewers would owe him about $4.3 mil the rest of the way. Team Canada has a taste in their mouths for HRs that can only be sated by a certain Mr. Dunn, it seems.
  2. What team is going to trade a relief pitcher for Jenkins? He's neither young nor signed cheaply. It would need to be a team in contention and they tend not to cut up their bullpens. Depends on how much of Jenkins' salary the Brewers would be willing to pick up. Also could be a three-way trade.
  3. Perhaps you could program the Robosapien to pick up the stuff off of the floor?
  4. Who said Hall would replace Hardy? Well, your entire post was about Hardy.
  5. The chances of Bill Hall moving out of CF this year are extraordinarily low. The Brewers have said time and time again they are committed to him there for the time being. At this point, why waste months of defensive development (and the pratfalls that have occurred thereof) for Billy in CF, just because JJ may or may not the rest of the year? The chances of JJ Hardy moving out of the starting lineup this year on a regular basis are extraordinarily low. He hasn't been hitting since the end/middle of May, that's true. However, he has still been fielding the ball extremely well the whole time. And Hall hasn't played SS in what, 8 or 9 months? I would be in favor of dropping Hardy in the lineup for awhile to get his bat going, but taking him out of the lineup completely isn't going to happen.

  7. I'd personally be concerned about buying a flashlight from Woot. Smartpost would crush the bulb quicker than they could get it out to the truck.
  8. grinding my own beans and sticking my nose in the grider to smell Years from now, Pogo will tell the horrific story of the day he lost his nose.
  9. $90 for an arcade basketball shooting game, and you only get two balls? Where's the back of the thing too? Booo.
  10. Doug, go to woot.com and tape down your F5 button. That's what works for me.
  11. Also keep in mind that Dunn would bring the Brewers a draft pick or two if they don't resign him (and offer him arby) Gwynn is expendable, Escobar is years away if at all, and while it would hurt to lose Wise, you would think Melvin would package either Jenkins or Mench (probably Jenks) with a prospect for a very good bullpen arm to replace Matty.
  12. According to Baseball Reference, Franco hasn't played SS in 20 years (!). At this point, I hope his run keeps going until he can't pick up a bat. A 50 year old major leaguer? Wouldn't that be amazing?
  13. Dunn for Gwynn, Wise and Escobar? Awesome!
  14. Three duck farts and a walk. Booo.
  15. This person is known for writing. Bjames.
  16. FWIW, here are the last five sets of participants in the World Series, their payrolls the year they went to the World Series, and their payrolls the year after they went to the World Series. Mostly anecdotal given all the different money situations, but it might give you some idea where the Brewers could be headed should they get there. ---------- 2006 2006 Cardinals: $88,891,371 2007 Cardinals: $90,286,823 Payroll up 1.5% 2006 Tigers: $82,612,866 2007 Tigers: $95,180,369 Payroll up 15.2% 2005 2005 White Sox: $75,178,000 2006 White Sox: $102,750,667 Payroll up 36.7% 2005 Astros: $76,779,000 2006 Astros: $92,551,503 Payroll up 20.5% 2004 2004 Red Sox: $127,298,500 2005 Red Sox: $123,505,125 Payroll down 3.0% 2004 Cardinals: $83,228,333 2005 Cardinals: $92,106,833 Payroll up 10.7% 2003 2003 Marlins: $45,050,000 2004 Marlins: $42,143,042 Payroll down 6.5% 2003 Yankees: $152,749,814 2004 Yankees: $184,193,950 Payroll up 20.6% 2002 2002 Angels: $61,721,667 2003 Angels: $79,031,667 Payroll up 28.0% 2002 Giants: $78,299,835 2003 Giants: $82,852,167 Payroll up 5.8% ---------- The thing that stands out most to me is that, despite most of the teams involved in the WS raised their payroll the year following their appearance, no one actually made it back-to-back visits in the last five years.
  17. I'd be surprised if that's all it took to get Willis. Maybe I'm undervaluing Parra and Gwynn, but Willis means a lot to the Florida organization. I would hazard a guess that it would take Vargas, Inman and Gwynn to get it done. And isn't Willis also a free agent at the end of next year? He's a good pitcher, but it doesn't seem worth it to me. Wouldn't complain, though.
  18. When Spurling comes back, I expect Parra to go back down, so that'll limit the need for another arm to "protect" Parra. And Gallardo is going to go back to the pen (probably for the rest of the year) once Sheets gets back. I don't see the need for it right now.

  20. They allow those Miller Lite cowboy hat abominations in, but they won't let ya wear a bucket? Boo! And yah, don't apologize. While the buckethead brigade may not be necessary anymore, it is odd of the Brewers to ban the bucket altogether.
  21. how am i going to woot off Dork. while im pretending to be ron weasley at barnes and noble? Ultra-dork. When I got the newsletter, I knew there had to be something coming soon. I don't work until the late afternoon on Thursday. Do some wooting and some Brewer watching at the same time. Woot.
  22. They gave Balfour #62... that's not a good sign. OTOH, my Minnesota Twin fan roommates were pretty amped that he was returning to the league. They may be more inclined to flip the channel over to the Brewer game now that they might see him. It's also good to know that the Brewers still have Aquino, Thatcher, Sarfate, Bray and Pettyjohn as decent options in AAA.
  23. I'm sure someone from the ticket office who reads the site must know the answer to the max SRO question. Bueller? Bueller?
  24. The least shocking statistic I've ever seen: Tony Gwynn's OPS has snuck under the OPSes of Graffy, Counsell and Gross. Remember when he was hitting .300?
  25. I thought the episode on Sunday was contrived at mostly boring. Young actors smoking pot, Drama trying to look cool, E going totally out of character and smacking Walsh... bleh. Nothing happened until right at the end, and you may have been able to see that from a mile away.
