  1. I just now realized that the Brewers had a DH in todays game. And that Gross is him. And that Gross is hitting in front of Hall. Oh, how Billy has fallen.
  2. Gross just struck out looking on a ball 4 inches off the outside of the plate.
  3. If you hit a guy with a throw with another runner moving up, it's gonna be an error every time. A makeable play for Braun. Too many pitches for Capuano.
  4. Capuano's pickoff move looks a little off. He's throwing it high and away and opposed to on the runner. Sure he's driving the runners back, but he's not giving Prince any chance to actually tag them.
  5. I like that the Rangers' broadcast puts up the batters' OBP when they flash their name, AVG, HR and RBI. I don't like that the Brewers are playing hit and run against a crappy pitcher.
  6. Can't wait to see Cain and Ford together again. Maybe Darren might spark Lo to jack some balls. And that WV lineup doesn't look bad, but not nearly as good as it was when it had Ford at the top and Brantley at #3.
  7. Tullo walked a ton of guys in JC this year. Perhaps the Brewers are giving him one last shot to get some control on the mound before he enrolls in a 4-year school.
  8. 47th rounder Aaron Tullo was a DFE candidate whom was not signed.
  9. Furthermore... The draft only went 5 rounds today. With all the time allotted for the first few rounds, that's not all that unexpected. Could it also be a sign that most teams aren't even going to sniff round 50 tomorrow? With the shuddering of the DFE process, what's the point of drafting more than 20-25 guys, along with 10-15 fallback guys, if you already have a bunch of younger players currently assigned to short season rosters? I guess I could see Friday playing out where a number of deeper teams stop drafting earlier than expected, and a number of weaker teams keep drafting, just to fill in pieces and pick up the scraps. Doesn't it also seem more likely that larger numbers of college seniors will be drafted in the later rounds? Without the DFE guys "clogging up" the later rounds, guys like Nate Yoho and Mike Adams might be snatched up before they hit the street.
  10. X made the comparison between LaPorta and Berkman, and the more I think about it, the more traction in gains in my head, and the more LaPorta excited me. Here are Lance Berkman's career stats, mostly presented here for the minor league numbers: www.thebaseballcube.com/p...kman.shtml Assuming that the Brewers assign LaPorta to WV immediately after signing him, would it be unfair to expect Matt to put up a ~1000 OPS there for the rest of the year (if he's kept there the rest of the year)? If the Brewers follow the Berkman model, they'll assign LaPorta to Brevard, but that doesn't seem to be the M.O. of the Brewers' system. I hope LaPorta destroys Sally League pitching and gets to Brevard by the end of the season. Berkman made it to AAA by the end of the second season, and I'd hope for the same from LaPorta. As an aside, with LaPorta becoming the heir apparent to Geoff Jenkins, I find it interesting that it is logical to put Matt in Milwaukee sometime during 2009, and that Jenkins' option would keep him here until '09. With the LaPorta pick, is it now more likely that the Brewers keep Jenkins next year? The timing appears to line up for that scenario to take place. Best laid plans, I know, but it is something interesting to think about.
  11. Go to the link that TC and Ben posted at the top of the thread. I made the forum back in '04ish, and while it hasn't been used much, feel more than free to use it. My moderation policy there is that you can police yourselves. I think the only word in the cuss filter is "Lewinski."
  12. After reading Michael Main's scouting report, he has Brewers first-round pick written all over him... hard-throwing HS right-hander with a quirky delivery and not much of a secondary pitch. Mark it down.
  13. Booooooooooooooooo. (edited for horiz. scrolling -TC)
  14. JJ Hardy hasn't been himself for the last 3-4 weeks. He's playing for jacks, his BB/K ratio is all screwed up, and his BA is steadily slipping. His defense hasn't been affected, but he's been a sucker at the plate for almost a month. And these Cubs fans cheering at Miller Park really, really, really pisses me off.
  15. Johnny Estrada could be one of the best hitting catchers in the game if he just learned to take a few pitches and be selective. He's a really good hitter, but he never works for his pitch. The Brewers need to give him a bonus for each pitch he takes.
  16. That's funny, the ChiSox and Cubs fans arguing. In Miller Park. Booooooo.
  17. I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that this is in fact not the Brewers' year. They'll have a better team next year with all the young position players getting another year of experience, and on the staff with Gallardo in the rotation. I hope they prove me wrong, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if this team is still in first place at the end of July.
  18. No pressure, Jim, but the biting sarcasm of the Power 50 commentary has been my favorite part of the site. I'm glad to see the sarcasm carrying on with the new authors. Can't wait for the new one, guys.
  19. I was about to jump through the television and strangle Counsell and Gross for those ABs.
  20. I have a bad feeling about this team right now. There just seems to be a malaise about them.
  21. Why is Wise still out there? So we can't have him out there tomorrow when we need him?
