Peralta is setting up for a start next Tuesday against Pittsburgh quite probably. He started Sunday’s game so this was on 3 days of rest.

Grisham has a higher batting average than Ray, Stokes, Erceg, or Gatewood. He’s cut down on Ks, too. And he has a career OBP above .370. And he’s just 21. It amazes me that many seem to have written him off already. Patience, people.

Final: DSL Pirates1 9, DSL Brewers/Indians 8 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score The Indians' portion of the pitching staff got slapped around again and despite a valiant late rally, the co-opers lose for the 8th time in 11 games. The club has the worst team ERA in the DSL by some margin, at 7.77 after today's debacle. Two Brewers pitchers appeared in the game. Second year pro Ricardo Velasquez came into the game with 2 runners on and 2 outs in the 5th, got out of that jam and pitched 3 more inning after that. He allowed 1 earned run, though the peripherals weren't great with 4 hits and 3 walks paired with 5 Ks. Sometimes catcher/sometimes pitcher Joel Munoz pitched the 9th inning and worked around a single and an error. On the offensive side, DH Luis Avila got 3 hits though all were singles and his career ISO dropped a point down to .010. Catcher Roberto Molina had a hit and walked twice. Outfielder Alejandro Marte took an 0-3, which extends his season-opening hitless streak to 13 ABs. He is 3-42 as a professional. I tried hard to work an Alejandro reference into that, but I give up. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log Almost all the way back: DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 8th Roberto Molina singles on a ground ball to second baseman Carlos Arroyo. Alejandro Marte walks. Roberto Molina to 2nd. With Bryan Connell batting, wild pitch by Lizardy Dicent, Roberto Molina to 3rd. Alejandro Marte to 2nd. Bryan Connell reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by third baseman Emilson Rosado. Roberto Molina scores. Alejandro Marte to 3rd. Moises De La Cruz singles on a ground ball to right fielder Rayvi Rodriguez. Alejandro Marte scores. Moises De La Cruz to 2nd. Bryan Connell advances to 3rd, on a fielding error by right fielder Rayvi Rodriguez. Luis Avila singles on a ground ball to center fielder Daniel Rivero. Bryan Connell scores. Moises De La Cruz to 3rd. Marlin Made singles on a ground ball to right fielder Rayvi Rodriguez. Luis Avila to 2nd. Rafael Brito grounds into a force out, shortstop Yoyner Fajardo to second baseman Carlos Arroyo. Moises De La Cruz scores. Luis Avila scores. Marlin Made out at 2nd. Rafael Brito advances to 1st, on a throwing error by second baseman Carlos Arroyo. Wilfri Peralta doubles (2) on a ground ball to center fielder Daniel Rivero. Rafael Brito to 3rd. Pitching Change: Wilger Camacho replaces Lizardy Dicent. Joseph Paulino strikes out swinging. Roberto Molina walks. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Nehemias Celesten replaces Alejandro Marte. Nehemias Celesten grounds out, first baseman Ronaldo Paulino to pitcher Wilger Camacho.

Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Tigers1 2 DSL Brewers Box Score The Brewers went with their "B" lineup today but the group gets an "A" for effort as they scored 5 unanswered runs after falling behind early. The 5-2 victory sent the DSL Crew to their 7th win, which is about as much success as I can recall a Brewers DSL team having in the first 11 games of a season. Even with Larry Ernesto and Carlos Rodriguez absent from the lineup, 13 hits were produced by the offense with 3 coming from the "other" usual starting outfielder, Oswel Leones. Despite being overshadowed is prospect stature, the 17-year-old Venezuelan corner OF is hitting .345 and his OPS is nearly 900. Yes it's just 35 PAs, but better a great 35 than a crappy 35. Elsewhere in the lineup, we find Victor Maria, Juan Frias, and Alwinson Valdez each with 2 hits. Valdez was the only Brewer with an extra base hit today, a 9th inning double. Frias also walked twice and threw out a runner at home from right field. The Brewers tried for 7 stolen bases and were successful 4 times. In particular, Leones was 2 for 3. It took just two pitchers to complete the game for the Brewers. Wilber Perez made his 3rd career start and notched his 2nd career win by logging 5.1 innings of 2 run ball. Leony Rosario went the rest of the way, allowing no runs on 5 hits. Rosario has yet to allow a run in his brief career spanning 6.1 innings and 3 games. DSL Brewers Game Log The DSL kiddos' impression of banging your head on a wall: DSL Brewers Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Oswal Torres replaces Alejandro Chavez. Jeicor Cristian singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jose Reina. With Daniel Castillo batting, Jeicor Cristian picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Pedro Garcia to first baseman Eduardo Valencia to shortstop Alvaro Gonzalez. Daniel Castillo walks. With Alberis Ferrer batting, Daniel Castillo caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Pedro Garcia to shortstop Alvaro Gonzalez. Alberis Ferrer walks. Oswel Leones grounds out, second baseman Kevin Nivar to first baseman Eduardo Valencia.

Final: Burlington 1, Wisconsin 0 Bees Edge Rattlers 1-0 Wisconsin shutout for just the second time this season By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BURLINGTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had plenty of chances, but it was the Burlington Bees who picked up the 1-0 win at Community Field on Wednesday night. The loss was the third straight for the Timber Rattlers. Both teams threatened to score in the fifth inning. The Rattlers (31-35) loaded the bases with two outs on singles by Tristen Lutz and Jay Feliciano and a walk to Devin Hairston. Isaac Matson got out of the inning with a grounder to first. Wisconsin starter Christian Taugner had a tougher jam to escape in the bottom of the fifth. Connor Fitzsimons started the inning with a triple, but the fifth ended with him still at third base after Taugner got a strikeout, a tapper back to the mound, and a grounder to short. The Bees (30-36) broke the scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Torii Hunter singled with one out and was at second with two outs. Taugner got ahead of Franklin Torres 0-2, but the Bees third baseman lined a double just fair off the wall to drive in the run that gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. That was the only run Taugner allowed. He pitched seven innings, scattered six hits, walked none, and struck out six. Wisconsin had scoring threats against Matson in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Gilbert Lara doubled to start the inning, but was erased when trying to advance to third on a grounder to short. In the eighth, Kenny Corey reached on an error with one out and Trever Morrison followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Matson escaped with back-to-back strikeouts to maintain the 1-0 advantage. The Rattlers had one more opportunity in the ninth inning. Pat McInerney drew a one-out walk to chase Matson from the game. Zach Clark came on to pinch run for McInerney and Mayky Perez entered the game to take over on the mound for Matson. Perez walked Lutz to move Clark into scoring position with one out, but struck out the final two batters to close out the 1-0 win. The Timber Rattlers hitters were 0-for-9 and had six strikeouts with runners in scoring position on Wednesday night. Taugner allowed one run, but took the loss in the game. Wednesday was his sixth quality start of the season and he is 1-1 with four no decisions in those six games. The Bees and Timber Rattlers have played six games this season and all six have been decided by one run. Burlington has outscored Wisconsin 8-7 and holds a 3-2 edge in the season series. Game three of the series is Thursday night. Alec Bettinger (5-4, 3.73) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Denny Brady (0-0, 0.00) is set to make his second start of the season for Burlington. Game time is 6:30pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score Wisconsin Game Log

So the Indians scored 12 runs, but all 12 runs were scored off of Indians pitchers. All told Indians pitchers gave up 22 runs in that game.

Helena Brewers Announce Majority of 2018 Opening Day Roster HELENA, MT - Today the Helena Brewers, in conjunction with the Milwaukee Brewers, announced a majority of its Opening Day roster. The current roster is comprised of 13 pitchers, five infielders, four outfielders and three catchers. Helena's full roster will be finalized before Friday's opening game in Great Falls. Returning to Helena for a second season are infielders Chad McClanahan and Antonio Piñero as well as pitchers Brandon Presley and Roberto Delgado. McClanahan, an 11th-round selection in 2016, played in 63 games, splitting time between first base and third base. Piñero was the club's primary shortstop in 2017 and hit safely in eight of his final ten games. Presley and Delgado are 2017 draft picks who pitched exclusively out of Helena's bullpen last year. The rest of the infield is comprised of 2017 5th-round selection Nick Egnatuk and Dominican natives Jean Carmona & Yeison Coca. Egnatuk is the earliest-drafted player from 2017 on the 2018 roster. Carmona is the 15th-ranked prospect in the Brewers system by MLB Pipeline. Helena's outfield is comprised of 2017 draftees Je'Von Ward and L.G. Castillo, along with Dominican native Pablo Abreu and Venezuela native Jesus Lujano. Ward, who originally committed to play baseball at USC, is the nephew of former NFL safety Mark Carrier. He is also the 26th-ranked prospect in Milwaukee's system, per MLB Pipeline. 2018 7th-round selection David Fry, 2017 38th-round selection Robie Rojas, and Venezuela native Jose Sibrian compose Helena's catching corps. Rojas has seen time so far in 2018 with Triple-A Colorado Springs and Advanced-A Carolina. There are five pitchers who spent time with the Arizona League Brewers last season (Justin Bullock, Max Lazar, Kody Rock, Austin Rubick and Wilfred Salaman). Blake Lillis is pitching for the first time since 2016, and Victor Castaneda comes to Helena from Tijuana of the Mexican League. Three 2018 draftees - J.T. Hintzen, Brady Schanuel, and Scott Sunitsch - fill out the current pitching staff. -
Final: Burlington 3, Wisconsin 2 Rattlers Road Trip Starts with 3-2 Loss at Burlington By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers BURLINGTON, IA - The Burlington Bees edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-2 at Community Field on Tuesday night. The Rattlers had the early advantage and some late opportunities, but wound up dropping their second straight game. Pat McInerney gave the Timber Rattlers (31-34) the lead with an opposite-field home run in the first inning. The right-handed slugger lined a 1-2 pitch from Mitchell Traver over the wall in right with two outs and none on base for his ninth homer of the season and a 1-0 lead. Dylan File was activated off the Wisconsin disabled list before the game and the All-Star pitcher made his first start since May 22 and pitched 3-1/3 scoreless innings. File allowed one hit, walked none, struck out three, and left the game after retiring the Bees lead-off batter in the fourth. Burlington (29-36) rallied against reliever Carlos Herrera right away. Kevin Williams greeted Herrera with a single and stole second. Franklin Torres blooped a single into left-center to score Williams with the tying run. Later in the inning, Julio Garcia doubled with two outs and Torres scored to put the Bees up 2-1. A two-out error in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed Torres to score from third for a 3-1 lead. Wisconsin got close in the top of the seventh inning. Gilbert Lara singled and Tristen Lutz walked to start the frame against reliever Jorge Tavarez. Zach Clark doubled to center with one out to score Lara and send Lutz to third. Devin Hairston drew a walk to load the bases and chase Tavarez from the game. Eduardo Del Rosario entered the game and protected the 3-2 Burlington advantage by striking out the next two batters. In the eighth, the Rattlers had Demi Orimoloye at second with one out, but he strayed too far from second on a grounder to short off the bat of Lara and was caught trying to get back to second for the second out. Lutz would follow with a single and a wild pitch by Del Rosario put the tying run on third and the lead run on second with two outs. But, Del Rosario ended the threat with another strikeout. Del Rosario closed out the game with no drama as he tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save. Tuesday's game was the 23rd time the Rattlers have been involved in a game decided by one run. They are 11-12 in one-run games. The Bees are now 9-15 in one-run games this season. Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Christian Taugner (2-4, 3.74) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Burlington has named Jose Soriano (0-1, 9.00) as their starter. Game time at Community Field is 6:30pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score KJ Harrison 2 for his last 35, dropping his batting average down to .166. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that he'd have the lowest BA in the Rattlers' lineup on June 12th, I wouldda thought you nuts. Perhaps it's the transition back to catching that's causing the offensive slump, but whatever it is, he's just had a shockingly bad year. The Brewers might send him back to Helena or Maryvale at some point just to get some batting confidence back. Wisconsin Game Log

Final: Cedar Rapids 3, Wisconsin 1 Wisconsin held to three hits in 3-1 loss to Cedar Rapids Kernels Stop Rattlers Win Streak By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Monday afternoon. The Cedar Rapids Kernels beat the Rattlers 3-1 as three Kernels pitchers held the Rattlers to three hits in the game at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Kernels (29-34) took the lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Akil Baddoo drove in the first run of the game with an RBI grounder in the third. Andrew Bechtold hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to put the Kernels up 2-0. Wisconsin (31-33) struggled to get anything going against Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Jordan Balazovic. The right-hander was making his first Midwest League start and gave up two hits in the first inning, but only allowed one more hit while striking out eleven over seven innings. Cedar Rapids added to their lead in the top of the seventh. Trey Cabbage, who had singled and doubled earlier in the game, homered with two outs in the top of the seventh inning against Rattlers starter Nelson Hernández. The Rattlers finally got to Balazovic in the bottom of the seventh when Payton Henry hit a lead-off homer. The blast was his fifth of the season. Henry had two of Wisconsin's three hits in the game. Any momentum the Rattlers had after the homer by Henry was lost when Demi Orimoloye bunted on the next pitch and was called out when the ball was ruled to have hit him in fair territory as ran to first. Wisconsin manager Matt Erickson came down from his coaching position at third base to argue the call and was eventually ejected from the game by plate umpire Chris Presley. Hernández allowed three runs on five hits over 6-2/3 innings for his eighth quality start of the season, but was charged with his first loss since April 18. The loss denied the Rattlers a .500 record for the first time since they were 2-2. The Timber Rattlers begin a six-game road trip to end the first half of the season on Tuesday night in Burlington, Iowa. Game time against the Burlington Bees at Community Field is 6:30pm. *** Streak’s End: Postgame Podcast & Video Highlights-June 11, 2018 "The Timber Rattlers had their winning streak end at six games with a 3–1 loss to the Cear Rapids Kernels. Well-regarded young Venezuelan catching prospect Andres Melendez was last seen in DSL game action on 6/4, which is a week ago now. He exited that game at a fairly innocuous point: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 5th Pitching Change: Daniel De Leon replaces Ronny Henriquez. Alberis Ferrer singles on a ground ball to third baseman Rehybell Perozo. With Daniel Castillo batting, wild pitch by Daniel De Leon, Alberis Ferrer to 2nd. Daniel Castillo singles on a line drive to left fielder Ronier Lascarro. Alberis Ferrer scores. Daniel Castillo to 2nd on the throw. Carlos Rodriguez grounds out, second baseman Derwin Barreto to first baseman Jember Gutierrez. Daniel Castillo to 3rd. Oswel Leones walks. With Larry Ernesto batting, throwing error by Daniel De Leon on the pickoff attempt, Daniel Castillo scores. Oswel Leones to 2nd. Larry Ernesto strikes out swinging. Andres Melendez singles on a ground ball to second baseman Derwin Barreto. Oswel Leones scores. Luis Silva flies out to left fielder Ronier Lascarro. DSL Rangers2 Top of the 6th Defensive Substitution: Farlyn Manon replaces catcher Andres Melendez, batting 4th, playing catcher. It's possible he was injured running the bases. It's possible he was injured playing defense. It's also possible that he so impressed the coaching staff down in Santo Domingo that he's been transferred stateside and will be on the AZL roster when they open up play in about a week. The Brewers will typically have one or two players that begin the season in the DSL only to be transferred stateside shortly thereafter. Something to keep an eye on.

Final: Wisconsin 5, Cedar Rapids 1 Rattlers Make It Six Wins in a Row Wisconsin beats Cedar Rapids 5-1 on Sunday By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers worked through a shaky second inning and went on to defeat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win was the sixth in a row for the Rattlers. Both teams committed two errors in the second inning, but it was the Rattlers who came out better in the exchange. The Kernels (28-34) got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the top of the second inning with help from two errors by the best defensive team in the Midwest League. Jose Miranda started the inning with a single and went to second on an errant pickoff throw by Bowden Francis. A grounder to first off the bat of Jean Carlos Arias was misplayed for another error and the Kernels had runners at the corners. Robby Rinn grounded into a force play at second to drive in Miranda for a 1-0 lead. Francis retired the next two batters to limit the damage. Wisconsin (31-32) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead thanks to a pair of errors by the Kernels. Demi Orimoloye reached on a single to start the inning and took second on a grounder. Zach Clark reached on a wild throw after a grounder to short and the Rattlers had runners on the corners. But, that was only for a moment at Clark stole second base. Then, Pat McInerney singled to drive in Orimoloye with the tying run and send Clark to third. The Rattlers took the lead when McInerney broke for second to draw a throw. Clark broke for the plate as soon as the throw went down to second and he would score when second baseman Jose Miranda dropped the throw. McInerney, who did the job of drawing the throw made it back to first base without a problem. Later in the frame, McInerney scored from second on a single to center by Kenny Corey for the 3-1 lead. Francis went into cruise control after the second inning. He would work through seven innings, allowed just three more hits, and picked up his third win of the season. McInerney and Corey combined to get the Rattlers another run in the bottom of the fourth. McInerney drew a walk to start the inning. This was the ninth straight game McInerney has coaxed a walk from an opposing pitcher. Corey delivered McInerney from second with a two-out single and a 4-1 Wisconsin lead. Wisconsin's final run scored in the bottom of the eighth. Gabriel García doubled and was sacrificed to third by Corey. A wild pitch allowed García to score for a 5-1 advantage. The Rattler bullpen closed out the game in scoreless fashion again as Wilfred Salaman worked the eighth and Gabe Friese tossed the ninth. Wisconsin has allowed seven runs in their last six games. This is Wisconsin's first six-game winning streak since April 24 to April 29, 2016. They will go for their first seven-game winning streak since June 2 to June 9, 2014 when they host the Kernels in the final game of the series - and of their homestand - on Monday afternoon. Nelson Hernández (7-2, 4.29) is scheduled to start for the Timber Rattlers. Jordan Balazovic (0-0, 0.00) has been named the starting pitcher for the Kernels. Game time is 12:05pm. *** Six Pack of Wins: Postgame Podcast & Video Highlights for June 10, 2018 "The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have won six games in a row to get to within one game of .500.
