  1. Final: DSL Dodgers Guerrero 7, DSL Brewers/Indians 2 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Los Guerreros bested the co-op team for the second day in a row. The only Brewer farmhand with a hit was SS Elian Gonzalez, who went 2-3 with a walk. RHP Alexis Ramirez was the SP and was making his pro debut, and it didn't go so hot. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, 3 BBs and a HBP plus 3 WPs for good measure, over 3.1 innings. Joel Munoz was a catcher last year, but has now apparently transitioned to become a RHP. He pitched a scoreless 9th. Daniel Acosta pitched; Daniel Acosta walked a batter. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log Elian Gonzalez scores the first run: DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 1st Moises De La Cruz pops out to shortstop Jesus Valdez. Elian Gonzalez singles on a ground ball to first baseman Jose Nava. Marlin Made singles on a ground ball to right fielder Andy Pages. Elian Gonzalez to 3rd. Nehemias Celesten out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Edwin Mateo. Elian Gonzalez scores. Victor Planchart grounds out, pitcher Carlos Montilla to first baseman Jose Nava.
  2. Final: DSL Brewers 6, DSL Phillies White 1 DSL Brewers Box Score For the 4th time in 5 career games, Carlos Rodriguez notched 2 hits and the DSL Crew wins a pretty crisply played game on their end. With 9 OFs on the roster, it is interesting to me to see who plays where with who else. Today. Rodriguez made his 3rd start in LF, with the other 2 coming in CF. Today's CF was Larry Ernesto, who for the 4th time in 5 games went hitless and is 1-22 w/10 Ks. to begin his pro career. This is his 3rd time playing CF - he's played LF once and DH'd once. The RF was Oswel Leones, who had two hits and a walk. That's 3 times on base after being on base 4 times yesterday. Leones has played RF twice, LF once, and DH'd once. The 17-year-old Venezuelan has a 855 OPS through 17 pro PAs. 2B Luis Silva (who has also played 1B and 3B) and debutante DH Francis Gonzalez each had 2 singles, while 1B Jean Cruz (who has also played 2B, 3B and has pitched as well) smacked the lone extra base hit, a double. RHP Wilber Perez, the club's opening day pitcher, made career start #2 and was great. He scattered 3 singles, a HBP, and walked a batter against 7 Ks and no runs allowed. RHP Santiago Elizondo closed the game out, throwing 4 innings of 1-run ball that earned him his first career save. DSL Brewers Game Log Breaking the game open in the 6th: DSL Brewers Top of the 6th Oswel Leones singles on a line drive to center fielder Carlos Mendoza. Larry Ernesto walks. Oswel Leones to 2nd. Luis Silva singles on a ground ball to shortstop Ellian Rondon. Oswel Leones to 3rd. Larry Ernesto to 2nd. Farlyn Manon pops out to first baseman Cesar Rodriguez. Jean Cruz doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Carlos Mendoza. Oswel Leones scores. Larry Ernesto scores. Luis Silva to 3rd. Pitching Change: Sergio Sanchez replaces Engel Estevez. Alberis Ferrer walks. Francisco Gonzalez singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Cedeno. Luis Silva scores. Jean Cruz scores. Alberis Ferrer out at 3rd on the throw, right fielder Jose Cedeno to shortstop Ellian Rondon to third baseman Jevi Hernandez. Francisco Gonzalez to 2nd on the throw. Daniel Castillo reaches on a throwing error by shortstop Ellian Rondon. Francisco Gonzalez scores. Daniel Castillo to 2nd. Carlos Rodriguez singles on a line drive to left fielder Raymond Mora. Daniel Castillo to 3rd. Oswel Leones walks. Carlos Rodriguez to 2nd. Larry Ernesto flies out to center fielder Carlos Mendoza.
  3. Robledo didn't actually sign, as IIRC he failed a physical.
  4. Final: Fresno 6, Colorado Springs 2 Colorado Springs Box Score The Sky Sox managed 9 hits but only 2 runners crossed the plate and the strangely offensive-deficient AAA team takes another loss. Dylan Moore (of course) had three of those hits including the only two extra base hits on the day for the Sky Sox, two doubles. Corbin Burnes gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of work. Has has now allowed 1 more earned run this year than he did for all of 2016 and 2017 combined. Colorado Springs Game Log

  6. I didn't see the game where he had two errors, but he's looked fine when I've seen him. He's made a few strong throws that show, to me, at least a fringe-average arm for the position. He's certainly athletic enough to handle the position, it's just a matter of getting Keston more reps.
  7. Payton Henry is so fun to watch behind the plate. He's improved himself immensely as a backstop and he is about as animated as they come. Call it youthful exuberance if you want, but the game could use more of it. Check out the Rattlers highlights above and go to the 0:15 mark to see what I mean. Passion adds a lot to the game. The improvement on defense should not be understated either. The prevailing notion when he was drafted that he'd be forced to go to first base or left field because of his size and throwing mechanics. We are frankly way past that and he's not only sticking at catcher, he's becoming a really good one really quickly.
  8. The last time a first round pick did not sign was 2015, when the 35th overall pick Kyle Funkhouser did not sign with the Dodgers. Anything's possible but teams are getting so good at figuring out draft pools down to the penny now that I think it would be absolutely stunning if Turang did not sign. The LSU coach said maybe 25% chance of Turang going to LSU... I'd say it's closer to 0.25%.
  9. Devin Williams’ FB was low-mid 90s like it was before the injury. Kirby’s FB was around 90. Bickford’s FB was 89-92 but looked like it had more zip than that.
  10. Devin Williams starting for the Mudcats tonight!
  11. Final: DSL Dodgers Guerrero 14, DSL Brewers/Indians 4 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Bad news: the co-opers get blown out. Not as bad news: most of it was done to the Indians' pitchers. The only Brewers' farmhand to pitch was Daniel Acosta, though it wasn't pretty as he walked 4 in a third of an inning and was tagged for two runs. Acosta is a 21-year-old currently playing his third year in the DSL and control has consistently been an issue for him, to put it mildly. Including his no-walk performance in the first game of the season, Acosta has issued at least one walk in all but 5 of his 35 career appearances. I imagine he has a good arm, which is the explanation for why he is still in the Brewers' employ. Brewer offense was limited as well, with singles from LF Reidy Mercado and C Roberto Molina being the only output. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log A pop out and walks: DSL Dodgers Guerrero Bottom of the 5th Pitching Change: Daniel Acosta replaces Sergio Morillo. Oscar Alvarez pops out to catcher Roberto Molina in foul territory. Randy Rodriguez walks. Amin Valdez walks. Randy Rodriguez to 2nd. Eddys Leonard walks. Randy Rodriguez to 3rd. Amin Valdez to 2nd. Luis Yan walks. Randy Rodriguez scores. Amin Valdez to 3rd. Eddys Leonard to 2nd. Pitching Change: Eric Perez replaces Daniel Acosta. Jenderson Jardines flies out to left fielder Reidy Mercado. Eynar Machin walks. Amin Valdez scores. Eddys Leonard to 3rd. Luis Yan to 2nd. Jaime Perez pops out to third baseman Jesus Maestre.
  12. Final: DSL Phillies White 6, DSL Brewers 4 DSL Brewers Box Score The Brewers were leading 4-3 going into the 7th inning, but couldn't close it out as they come out on the losing end. Maybe more precisely, their defense couldn't close it out as 2 of the final 3 Phillies' runs were unearned. Three fielding errors, a passed ball and six wild pitches helped to do in the good guys. 17-year-old righty Leoner Colina made his pro debut and had an eventful day. He pitched 5 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and no walks. He struck out 4 and picked off 2 runners, but also managed 4 wild pitches. LF Oswel Leones was the only Brewer with a multi-hit effort and was on base four times with a single, a double, and two walks. The offense did manage to draw 11 walks, but had just 3 hits outside of Leones' efforts. 17-year-old Francis Casado made his pro debut as the DH and had a single in 4 ABs. No Carlos Rodriquez or Larry Ernesto today for the DSL Brewers, but that's ok because they literally have seven other OFs on the roster. DSL Brewers Game Log The go-ahead run scores on a passed ball: DSL Phillies White Top of the 7th Arturo De Freitas grounds out, third baseman Alberis Ferrer to first baseman Victor Maria. Ellian Rondon walks. Carlos Mendoza grounds into a force out, third baseman Alberis Ferrer to second baseman Luis Silva. Ellian Rondon out at 2nd. Carlos Mendoza to 1st. Luiggi Mujica singles on a ground ball to third baseman Alberis Ferrer. Carlos Mendoza to 2nd. Oscar Gonzalez doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Alwinson Valdez. Carlos Mendoza scores. Luiggi Mujica to 3rd. With Jevi Hernandez batting, passed ball by Jesus Chirinos, Luiggi Mujica scores. Oscar Gonzalez to 3rd. Jevi Hernandez pops out to shortstop Daniel Castillo.
  13. Far from shocking, the Brewers will not sign 29th round SS Nander De Sedas. He'll be honoring his commitment to Florida State.
  14. I'd expect the Helena pitching staff to include Bullock, Chirino, Lemons, Martin, Missaki, Montas, Presley, Ashby (?), Hintzen, Daniel, Iverson (?), Andrews, Sunitsch, Matulovich (?), Schanuel, Mediavilla. Assuming Rasmussen signs, my guess is he doesn't pitch this year. One or two of Lazar/Delgado/Lillis/Morales/Murphy/Robinson/Rock/Rubick/Smith could make it as well. Plus injured guys if they're ready to rehab: Drossner, Owenby, Trent. Helena catchers: Sibrian, Rojas, either Rios or Fry. Due to Fry still working back to full strength from Tommy John and being relatively inexperienced at catching, my guess is they start him in Maryvale. Helena infield: Carmona, Pinero, Coca, Mendez (?), McClanahan, plus maybe Egnatuk and/or a UDFA or two. Ernesto Martinez also a possibility. Turang has an outside shot as well. Helena outfield: Lujano, Pierre, Ward, perhaps Abreau. Watson if he signs. I haven't heard anything on LG Castillo recently, potentially him. Probably a UDFA or two.
  15. Sibrian was recently placed on the Helena roster. Carmona is on that roster as well, along with Pinero.
  16. Heimlich went undrafted.
  17. That's 8 pitchers in a row that the Brewers have drafted, half of them lefties. Of the 22 players taken so far, 15 have been pitchers.
  18. 21st round pick Steve Hajjar will be another tough sign. Michigan commit.
  19. Also Perfect Game: One of the toolsiest prospects in this draft class for Florida is Elijah Cabell and he showed a bevy of tools during batting practice before the game and during it. The raw bat speed and power potential are dazzling for Cabell as he has plus bat speed and easy plus raw power, if not more. The swing gets through the zone so quickly and the LSU signee's strength is evident as the ball jumps off the barrel with such ease. Another plus tool in Cabell's arsenal is his arm strength which grades out as a plus tool and a difference maker. Should he stick in center field at the next level having plus arm strength certainly helps. Cabell didn't do much in game – facing Mason Denaburg can do that to you – but he showed off his quickness beating out an infield single/error in the first inning. Cabell struck out in his second at-bat and laced a hard hit groundout in his third at-bat. The results weren't there during the game for Cabell but he will be followed very closely all spring and will be one of the top outfield prospects in the class as he comes in at No. 67 on the Top 250.
  20. Perfect Game: Elijah Cabell is a 2018 OF/3B with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Winter Park, FL who attends TNXL Academy. Big and strong athletic build, pretty mature physically. Playing with a minor knee injury and not at full speed, has run 6.62 in the past. Outstanding outfield arm strength with plus on line carry, long and easy arm action, has 100 mph in his arm. Right handed hitter, nice shift into contact, easy bat speed, hits off a hard front side, very strong hands, ball makes an different sound off the barrel, elite level bat speed with big power to all fields, hits easy and hits it hard. Classic right field tools with a high ceiling. Good student, verbal commitment to Louisiana State. Selected for the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic.
  21. The 14th rounder, Elijah Cabell, is going to be a really tough sign. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get away to LSU.
  22. Also from Perfect Game: Olson, who popped up last summer with a fastball peaking at 93 mph, worked a pair of innings at LakePoint in front of numerous scouts at the 2018 May 14 Pre-Draft live bullpen event. Olson, a Georgia Tech signee, is a skinny 6-foot-1 pitcher with lots of room to fill throughout. He featured a sinking changeup that sat in the 85-86 mph range that accompanied the low-90s fastball well. Olson’s strong showing helped him boost up the rankings list 168 spots to 139.
