  1. Final: DSL Indians 5, DSL Brewers/Indians 4 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Brewers members of the lineup LF Bryan Dimas, RF Bryan Connell, SS Elian Gonzalez, and DH Jose Arteaga all made it on base twice, but the co-op team falls again, to the Indians again. Righty Alexis Ramirez turned in a quality start, allowing 3 runs over 6 innings. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log The good guys did pull ahead briefly in the bottom of the 5th: DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 5th Elian Gonzalez walks. With Joseph Paulino batting, Elian Gonzalez caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Cesar Idrogo to shortstop Brayan Rocchio. Joseph Paulino strikes out swinging. Jose Arteaga singles on a line drive to left fielder Derian Perez. Bryan Dimas triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder Daniel Aguilar. Jose Arteaga scores. Pitching Change: Luis Peguero replaces Brauny Munoz. With Wilfri Peralta batting, wild pitch by Luis Peguero, Bryan Dimas scores. Wilfri Peralta flies out to left fielder Derian Perez.
  2. Final: DSL D-backs2 3, DSL Brewers 1 DSL Brewers Box Score Four singles, all from the top 3 spots in the order, were all the offense could muster and unlike Thursday's game, the D-backs' pitchers weren't throwing wild pitch after wild pitch. Oswel Leones had 2 of the 4 singles; Larry Ernesto and Carlos Rodriguez each has one. Henry Medina pitched 7 strong innings and deserved better, but 2 earned runs were all the D-backs needed. Medina had his typical low BB/low K outing. DSL Brewers Game Log The D-backs score early: DSL D-backs2 Bottom of the 1st Alejandro Alcide grounds out, second baseman Luis Silva to first baseman Farlyn Manon. Carlos Goris walks. Axel Andueza singles on a line drive to center fielder Carlos Rodriguez. Carlos Goris to 2nd. With Sandy Martinez batting, Carlos Goris caught stealing 3rd base, catcher Andres Melendez to third baseman Victor Maria, Axel Andueza to 2nd. Sandy Martinez singles on a line drive to right fielder Oswel Leones. Axel Andueza scores. Ismael Jaime doubles (8) on a line drive to left fielder Larry Ernesto. Sandy Martinez scores. Ismael Jaime out at 3rd on the throw, left fielder Larry Ernesto to catcher Andres Melendez to third baseman Victor Maria.
  3. From Prospects1500, a somewhat confusing comment on 20th rounder Joey Matulovich: Joey Matulovich, Wareham (2019 Draft) A Junior from Cal Berkeley, the tall righthander was a swing man between the pen and the rotation, tossing Cal’s lone complete game last season. He was selected in the 20th round of last June’s draft by the Brewers, but instead chose to return to school. He was relegated to the Golden Bears pen during the season but performed well, with an ERA of 2.31 over 27.1 pen innings, striking out 27 batters in the process. In his four appearances on the Cape, Matulovich has been stellar, collecting a 0.50 ERA, with 17 Ks to 5 walks over 18 innings for the Gatemen. Matulovich mixes a fastball, breaking ball, and changeup. The fastball sits low 90’s with the breaking ball in the mid-80s, and a changeup that sits 78-81. Matulovich was selected in *this* June's draft (Austin Rubick was last year's 20th rounder) so I think the writer may have the timeline wrong, and I don't believe the Matulovich has already chosen to return to Cal, but I am attempting to clarify.
  4. Final: AZL White Sox 3, AZL Brewers 1 AZL Brewers Box Score The offense went 2-30 and Jorge Ortega allowed 2 runs in the first, which turned out to be enough as the Baby Brewers drop to 5-4. AZL Brewers Game Log
  5. Final: Billings 9, Helena 1 Solomon Silences Helena Again Billings Scores Four In The First To Bury Brewers Early By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers BILLINGS, MT - Billings starter Jared Solomon (W, 2-0) dominated the Brewers when he faced them on Saturday, shutting them out over six innings, and tonight he delivered more of the same. The 2017 11th round pick allowed just three hits over six shutout innings, striking out a career high seven. Behind a four run first inning, the Mustangs (4-8) cruised to a 9-1 win, snapping their four game losing streak. The Brewers (7-6) are now just 1-4 on the road in 2018. Billings offense, which came into the ballgame last in the league in runs, threw a big punch at the Brewers in the first. Dylan Harris started the inning with a bloop double to right against Justin Bullock (l, 0-2), and with one out he scored on a double from Reshard Munroe. Drew Mount singled home Munroe with two out, and the next batter Bren Spillane homered on a payoff pitch to right, making it 4-0 early. Bullock then locked in and retired the next ten he faced, but the Brewers were stifled again by Billings starter Jared Solomon. After back to back singles to start the first, Solomon then allowed just two more Brewers to reach base over the next five innings, finishing his line with just three hits over six shutout innings, walking only one. Billings scored an insurance run in the fifth inning on a two out single from Mariel Bautista, and then added two in the seventh and eighth respectively against the Helena bullpen. Chad McClanahan doubled home a run in the eighth inning to avoid the shutout, but it was too little too late. The Brewers look to split the brief two game series with the Mustangs tomorrow as they send Wilfred Salaman to the hill for his third start. Billings counters with Luis Alecis. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with the pregame show airing on helenabrewers.net beginning at 6:50. *** *** Photos from Thursday's game. *** Helena Box Score Outside of a string of batters in the first inning, Justin Bullock pitched well. He used his changeup extensively, as it seems to be developing into a good offering. I wouldn't fret about his ERA - he's going to be a good one. Helena Game Log
  6. I think this was a Charles Bukowski poem.
  7. No. 99.9% sure others besides Turang will sign.
  8. Final: DSL Indians 7, DSL Brewers/Indians 6 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score A late rally was foiled by the Indians (both the Indians pitching on the Brewers/Indians team and the Indians on offense who scored the go-ahead run against the Indians pitcher) and the co-op team drops another. Not much happening on either side of the ball for Brewers' players in this one. RF Bryan Connell and C Roberto Molina each had a single; LF Rafael Brito walked. The only Brewer to pitch was 2nd-year pro Ricardo Velasquez, who didn't allow a run in 2 innings of work. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log There were four pitchers used today by the co-op team, three of them Indians, with ERAs of: 7.91 1.72 7.56 7.88 Guess which one was Velasquez.
  9. Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL D-backs2 0 DSL Brewers Box Score The Brewers' "B" lineup only managed 3 hits, but 7 walks, 8 wild pitches, a HBP, and a passed ball helped them to score 5 runs which was more than enough behind the brilliant pitching of Wilber Perez and Dantel Ramirez. The right-handed Perez pitched what will go down as one of the best Brewers minor league starts this year. No runs, no walks, 3 scattered singles, a hit batter, and 12 strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. The 20-year-old second-year pro was signed in the middle of last season, less than a year ago. He pitched somewhat anonymously in 9 games in 2017, none of them starts, to the tune of a pretty good 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings. Not particularly memorable for being bad or good, just kind of there. Fast forward to this year and he's found himself pitching well in the DSL rotation. He has 26 innings pitched in 5 starts, has allowed just 15 hits (.170 BAA) and 6 walks (0.81 WHIP), while striking out 33; he owns a miniscule ERA of 1.04 (believe it or not, currently only good for 11th-best in the DSL). He was not any sort of marquee signing so we don't know much about him other than the stats, and he is a bit old for the league. Still though, great to see what's becoming a success story spring up out of nowhere. Ramirez picked up his 3rd multi-inning save on the year (organizational philosophy, anyone?) and has been mostly dominant. Three of the 4 earned runs he's allowed have come on the 2 home runs he's allowed. Otherwise, the 19-year-old righty has pitched 14 innings, and given up only 7 hits (.135 BAA), 3 walks (0.71 WHIP), and has struck out 21. Like Perez, Ramirez was a non-descript signing, inking a deal with the Brewers this past November. If they keep this up, we'll be seeing them in Maryvale next spring in what should be the Brewers' strongest crop of stateside debuts in years, and quite possibly ever. As I mentioned, only 3 hits for the offense but I wanted to touch on two players, both outfielders who have been overshadowed by the "big 3" of Carlos Rodriguez, Larry Ernesto, and Oswel Leones. First off, CF Alwinson Valdez was 0-1 but drew 3 of the team's 7 walks and stole 2 of the team's 5 bases. The 17-year-old Valdez leads the team with 11 walks, is second with 8 stolen bases in his first year of pro ball. Secondly, LF Juan Frias, also 17 and also in his first pro season, had a hit, a walk, and a stolen base. On the year though (through about 30 PAs), Frias is slashing .333/.483/.476, or a .959 OPS. DSL Brewers Game Log Stuff like this happened (Alberis Ferrer advances from first to home on the stolen base/wild pitch/passed ball trifecta): DSL Brewers Bottom of the 7th Pitching Change: Fredely De Dios replaces Junior Mieses. Alberis Ferrer walks. With Jeicor Cristian batting, Alberis Ferrer steals (2) 2nd base. With Jeicor Cristian batting, wild pitch by Fredely De Dios, Alberis Ferrer to 3rd. With Jeicor Cristian batting, passed ball by Sandy Martinez, Alberis Ferrer scores. Jeicor Cristian walks. Francis Casado grounds into a force out, third baseman Axel Andueza to second baseman Eduardo Herrera. Jeicor Cristian out at 2nd. Francis Casado to 1st. With Victor Vargas batting, wild pitch by Fredely De Dios, Francis Casado to 2nd. Victor Vargas grounds out, second baseman Eduardo Herrera to first baseman Rafael Jimenez. Francis Casado to 3rd. Daniel Castillo grounds out, shortstop Juan Padron to first baseman Rafael Jimenez. And this: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 8th Francisco Gonzalez strikes out swinging. Alwinson Valdez walks. With Jesus Chirinos batting, wild pitch by Fredely De Dios, Alwinson Valdez to 2nd. Jesus Chirinos grounds out, shortstop Juan Padron to first baseman Rafael Jimenez. With Juan Frias batting, wild pitch by Fredely De Dios, Alwinson Valdez to 3rd. Juan Frias walks. With Alberis Ferrer batting, wild pitch by Fredely De Dios, Alwinson Valdez scores. Juan Frias to 2nd. Alberis Ferrer walks. Pitching Change: Yaramil Hiraldo replaces Fredely De Dios. Jeicor Cristian grounds out, shortstop Juan Padron to first baseman Rafael Jimenez.
  10. Subpar, pretty bad, below average, whatever semantics you want to use - he's not an asset as a defender. He probably makes the team worse in that capacity. His offensive profile worries me a bit as he's at a career low for BB%, a career high for K%, and a career high for BABIP. His XBH/H% is down and his K/BB ratio is more than double what it was last year. All of those things in relation to what is likely an unsustainably high BABIP would make him (for me) a likely candidate for some in-season regression. ZiPS and Steamer have him at 0.4 and 0.3 WAR for the remainder of the season, and it wouldn't shock me if that's how he ended up. Because of that, I'm also dubious that he's a 1.9 WAR player in 2019 and 2020. I think I also just talked myself out of giving up Santana for him.
  11. I think just focusing on the offensive side of it ignores that Dietrich is a pretty bad defender no matter where you put him. He's an above average offensive player, I don't think there's much denying that, but the defensive side weighs on his value. I'd offer Domingo Santana and Cody Ponce. I realize it's kind of/sort of selling low on Santana but it would be worth the upgrade to the more consistent bat in Dietrich even if the defense goes backward a little. I'm not a huge fan of Ponce; maybe the Marlins are. You also have to consider that the Marlins have already done comprehensive work on the Brewers' farm due to the Yelich trade. They probably have a good idea of who they like.
  12. Final: Helena 11, Missoula 8 Late Rallies Propel Brewers To Series Split Helena Scores Eight Combined In Final Two Frames By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers HELENA, MT - The Helena Brewers have carried themselves with a never-say-die attitude all year long, and tonight's game against the Missoula Osprey proved that point. Helena trailed by three or more runs twice, and came back to win 11-8, earned a series split with Missoula. Down four in the seventh, they tied the game with a five run inning, and tied in the eighth, they took the lead for good with a three run frame. The Brewers (7-5) now trail the Osprey (7-4) by just a half game in the division. Both teams remained scoreless through the first two, and the Osprey struck first with a three run third against Max Lazar. It would be the only runs that Lazar surrendered all night, as he went five innings, walking just one and striking out three. Helena tied the game at three after five innings thanks to an RBI single from Chad McClanahan in the fourth and RBI singles from Jesus Lujano and Jean Carmona in the fifth. Once the game got to the sixth inning, craziness ensued. Roberto Delgado came on in relief of Lazar and struck out Zac Almond, but a passed ball on strike three allowed Almond to reach. Then Joe Robbins hit a potential double play ground ball to third that Nick Egnatuk threw in the dirt on the turn to second, putting two on with nobody out. After a Jesus Munoz ground out with one out moved both into scoring position, Nick Dalesandro singled home both, giving Missoula a 5-3 lead. Pablo Abreu then dropped a Brandon Leyton fly ball, scoring Dalesandro, and Jesus Marriaga followed with an RBI single of his own. When the dust settled it was 7-3 Osprey, with all four runs in the inning unearned. Landon Whitson came on to pitch the sixth for Missoula, and retired the first five going into the seventh, but Helena joined the craziness with two out and nobody on in the bottom of the seventh. Je'Von Ward started the rally with an infield single, and Jesus Lujano then bunted his way on. Yeison Coca then whacked his own infield single, bringing Carmona to the plate as the tying run. Carmona hit a ball to short that could've been an inning ending ground out, but Leyton the shortstop whiffed on the ball, allowing two runs to score and putting the tying run on first. Whitson then walked Chad McClanahan to load the bases, and Osprey manager Mike Benjamin pulled Whitson for Trent Autry (L, 0-1). The first batter Autry faced was Nick Egnatuk, who took an inside fastball and drilled it into the left center field game, clearing the bases and giving Helena their first lead of the night at 8-7. Because of the Leyton error, all five runs scoring in the inning were also unearned. However, Missoula struck back with an unearned run in the eighth, as a Carmona error with Brandon Presley on the mound put the tying run aboard. With one out and two on, Leyton made up for his goof with an RBI single, plating the tying run. Peter Strzelecki (W, 2-0) came on and got the final two outs of the inning, keeping the game tied at eight. Autry returned for the eighth, and put the go ahead run on by allowing a one out single to Abreu. Lujano walked with two out, moving the go ahead run into scoring position. That brought Coca to the plate, and he sent a drive to deep center that flew to the wall, scoring two and going for a triple. Carmona then added one more insurance run with a single to right, scoring Coca easily to extend the lead to 11-8. Strzelecki finished the game with a perfect ninth, earning his second professional win. The Brewers hit the road for five games in four days, starting with a 7:05 PM game tomorrow in Billings. Justin Bullock takes the mound for the Brewers, while the Mustangs have not yet announced their starter. *** *** Photos from Wednesday's game. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  13. RHP Tim Dillard placed on Colorado Springs' Temporary Inactive List. RHP Michael Brady activated off of the Sky Sox DL.
  14. From what I've seen, his arm is adequate and accurate. I haven't noticed any issues on his throws. He's probably never going to be a Gold Glove-caliber defender, but he's made his fair share of nice plays this year. He just needs reps.
  15. But why take walks when everything you're hitting is falling in? I think it sometimes gets lost in staring at BB% or the gap between AVG and OBP, but plate discipline is not the same thing as the ability to take walks. Plate discipline is both about not swinging at pitches you can't hit, and swinging at pitches you can hit. If he's being thrown a lot of pitches he feels he can hit, why not swing at them? As for the walks, at 507 PAs, I don't think he has a large enough professional body of work to say what his equilibrium walk rate will be. My guess is that it turns out to be a lot higher than 4% or 6%. Edit: This explains what I mean. We don't yet know (if we ever will) what the "Pareto optimal" level for Hiura is as a hitter. If he optimizes his talents, it might mean 7% walk rate. Or it might mean 12%. He could plausibly be successful with either one.
  16. Even if he's just hitting singles, a single is a good deal more valuable than a walk.
  17. Hiura has elite bat speed and above average bat control. If anything, I think he's under-hyped at the national level. Not that level of hype matters whatsoever. I agree it's somewhat strange to say someone with a career .400 OBP has "unimpressive on base skills." If you're hitting everything in sight, why attempt to draw walks? I would be worried if he were hitting .250 with a 4.3% walk rate, but at .350? Nah. All other things being equal, I'd rather have a guy hitting .350 with a .400 OBP than a guy hitting .250 with a .400 OBP.
  18. Final: AZL Brewers 3, AZL Padres1 0 AZL Brewers Box Score Two runs in the bottom of the first were all the baby Brewers needed as Freisis Adames, Michele Vassalotti, and Jesus Brea combined on a 3 hit shutout. While none of the three were dominating by any stretch (Vassalotti issued a career-high 3 walks), effective is effective. 2B Edwin Sano once again lead the way on offense with 2 hits, a HBP, and 2 stolen bases. There is a universe where he swaps places with Yeison Coca in Helena next month. 3B Jess Williams, who along with Sano and Micah Bello are the guys I mention most often in these write-ups, had a double for the Brewers' lone extra-base hit. He has a 1.069 OPS in his first 28 plate appearances as a pro. Nice. AZL Brewers Game Log The two runs could have been more, not that more was needed: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 1st Edwin Sano singles on a ground ball to right fielder Agustin Ruiz. Jesse Williams doubles (4) on a fly ball to left fielder Tyler Benson. Edwin Sano to 3rd. Alex Hall singles on a line drive to right fielder Agustin Ruiz. Edwin Sano scores. Jesse Williams to 3rd. Aaron Familia grounds into a double play, pitcher Frank Lopez to shortstop Xavier Edwards to first baseman Lee Solomon. Jesse Williams scores. Alex Hall out at 2nd. Anderson Melendez hit by pitch. Francis Florentino grounds into a force out, shortstop Xavier Edwards to second baseman Jarryd Dale. Anderson Melendez out at 2nd.
  19. Final: Missoula 2, Helena 0 Helena Blanked For Second Time In Five Games Brewers Manage Just Three Hits In Loss By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - The Helena Brewers offense came back to life last night with a game defining three run fifth inning, but fell flat tonight against the Missoula Osprey, falling 2-0. Helena's offense managed just three hits, as the Osprey bullpen retired the final ten Brewers they faced. With the loss, the Brewers (6-5) now fall 1.5 games back of Missoula (7-3) in the division. The only scoring in the ballgame came in the top of the first. Helena starter Aaron Ashby (L, 0-1) issued a one out walk to Cesar Garcia, and walked Zack Shannon with two outs. Zac Almond singled to right, scoring Garcia, and a bobble from right fielder LG Castillo allowed Shannon to score. Missoula starter Pedro Zorrilla (W,1-1) allowed a leadoff single in the first to Yeison Coca, but then retired the next six he faced. Je'Von Ward began the third with a sharp single to left, but Jose Sibrian immediately erased Ward by hitting into a double play. Zorrilla didn't allow another hit in the game, finishing his five scoreless innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Ashby exited in the second inning with the bases loaded for Scott Sunitsch, who got Buddy Kennedy to fly out to center to end the inning. Sunitsch, Austin Rubick, and Jenri Montas combined to pitch 7.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and despite issuing nine walks as a staff, the only two runs to score came in that first inning. Missoula stranded 12 runners on base and went 1-10 with runners in scoring position. The effort was for naught, as Missoula's bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to complete the shutout. Bryan Menendez got the final three outs for his first career save. Helena looks to split the four game series tomorrow with first pitch at 7:05 PM. Max Lazar makes his third start of the season, seeking his second win. Marcos Tineo takes the ball for Missoula. *** *** Photos from Tuesday's game. Great photo of Scotty Sunitsch's changeup grip. *** Helena Box Score First off, Greg Mroz has been outstanding for Helena this season in what must be a tough assignment as he begins his first and final year of Helena Brewers broadcasting. Not only for the radio broadcasts and game write-ups, but the other little bits of media the team puts out, such as his pitching preview videos you can see on Twitter. Like this one from yesterday. Hopefully, this leads to a full-time gig elsewhere next season, or at least with wherever the Brewers' advanced rookie affiliate is next year. He's a good one. As I mentioned yesterday, after starting out like a ball of fire, the H-Crew's offensive output has fallen off significantly over the past week. Hopefully, the league's youngest offense can bounce back for today's game. 4th round pick Aaron Ashby has had a tough start to his pro career. Command was the bugaboo holding him back from being a higher draft pick, and he's issued 5 walks in 2.1 innings. That said, we can't make any judgments on 7 outs. Incidentally, his milb.com page lists him as the son of Andy Ashby - he's actually Andy's nephew. Props though to Scotty Sunitsch, Austin Rubick, and Jenri Montas for keeping the Osprey offense at bay for the final 7.1 innings. Helena Game Log All the offense Missoula would need, and both runs scored with two outs: Missoula Top of the 1st Jesus Marriaga grounds out, second baseman Yeison Coca to first baseman Chad McClanahan. Cesar Garcia walks. Buddy Kennedy flies out to center fielder Pablo Abreu. With Zack Shannon batting, Cesar Garcia steals (2) 2nd base. Zack Shannon walks. With Zachery Almond batting, Cesar Garcia advances to 3rd on a balk. Zack Shannon advances to 2nd on a balk. Zachery Almond singles on a line drive to right fielder Leugim Castillo. Cesar Garcia scores. Zack Shannon scores. Fielding error by right fielder Leugim Castillo. Zachary Jones called out on strikes.
  20. They failed to sign 10 players in 2015 draft. It was 15 in 2014, which is a number I think they have a good shot at surpassing this year.
  21. I'm confident they both have a good chance of being signed, yes.
  22. Final: AZL Brewers 10, AZL Mariners 2 AZL Brewers Box Score The Baby Brewers' offense pounded on the Submariners (#amirite) pitching staff and the Brewers' pitching staff was able to work out of a number of early jams, as the good guys push their record to 4-3. Not for nothing, they were not the first team to lose the Mariners, who are now 0-7. Three different players had three base knocks: CF Micah Bello (3-5, SB), C Alex Hall (3-5, 2B), and RF Pablo Garabitos (3-4, 2B, SB). Garabitos' first hit of the night, a second inning single, was his first pro hit. 3B Jess Wiliams had a multi-hit night as well, going 2-4 including a double. Starter Joel Pinto worked 4 innings and gave up one run, documented below. He's always been a pitch-to-contact type so good to see 5 Ks as well. Cam Robinson gave up an unearned run in his 3.1 innings, striking out 4. Mitch McIntyre finished things up with 1.2 scoreless innings. AZL Brewers Game Log The game could have gone a lot differently had this gotten out of hand, so give credit to Joel Pinto: AZL Mariners Bottom of the 3rd Cody Staab strikes out swinging. Cesar Izturis Jr. doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Micah Bello. Beau Branton singles on a ground ball to right fielder Pablo Garabitos. Cesar Izturis Jr. to 3rd. Danny Contreras strikes out swinging. Nolan Perez grounds out, second baseman Edwin Sano to pitcher Joel Pinto.
  23. Final Game Two: Helena 4, Missoula 1 Brewers Earn Split With Osprey Helena Breaks Tie With Three Run Fifth By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - Tied at one going into the fifth inning, the Helena Brewers strung together a two out rally, scoring three to take a 4-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish in game two of their double header against Missoula. Blake Lillis (W, 1-0) pitched five innings and allowed just one run to earn his first professional win since 2016. Missoula started the game with three straight singles to score a run, but Lillis induced a fielder's choice for the first out, and Yeison Coca turned a 4-3 double play to end the inning. The defensive wizardry spring boarded the Brewers offense as they loaded the bases on a single from Jean Carmona, a walk from Chad McClanahan, and a single from Nick Egnatuk. David Fry grounded out to short, but it plated Carmona to tie the game. Lillis and the Osprey bullpen kept throwing zeroes on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth, when Helena put together the game defining rally. With two out and nobody on against Matt Ladrech (L, 0-1), Carmona singled, and McClanahan followed with a single of his own. Egnatuk then ripped a line drive into the left center field that rolled to the wall, scoring both and giving Helena the lead. Fry then followed with a seeing eye single up the middle, extending the lead to three. Missoula then threatened in the sixth, getting the first two on against Lillis, ending his night. Chad Whitmer then entered and got Zac Almond to hit into a 4-3 double play. Joe Robbins then popped out to right to end the inning. Whitmer then got the side in order in the seventh to lock down his first save of the season. The Brewers and Osprey battle tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Aaron Ashby makes his first career start for Helena, while Pedro Zorrila takes the ball for Missoula. *** *** Helena Game Two Box Score Chad McClanahan and Nick Egnatuk both got a single and a double, Jean Carmona scored 2 runs, and Blake Lillis' groundball-o-rama was too much for the Osprey hitters as Helena wins their regularly scheduled home game. Helena Game Two Game Log Winning rally: Helena Bottom of the 5th Pitching Change: Matthew Ladrech replaces Geraldo Sanchez. Bryan Torres grounds out to first baseman Joe Robbins. Yeison Coca pops out to first baseman Joe Robbins. Jean Carmona walks. Chad McClanahan singles on a ground ball to second baseman Eddie Hernandez. Jean Carmona to 2nd. Nick Egnatuk doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Jesus Munoz. Jean Carmona scores. Chad McClanahan scores. David Fry singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jesus Marriaga. 24. Final Game One: Missoula 10, Helena 2 Missoula Whips Helena 10-2 Osprey Plate Six In Third Inning By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - Despite jumping out to a two run lead in the third inning, the Brewers couldn't hold down the Osprey offense. Playing as the home team, Missoula made their mark in the bottom of the third inning, sending ten men to the plate and scoring six, putting Helena in a hole they couldn't recover from. The Osprey added on four more runs, pounding the Brewers 10-2. Three straight singles in the third gave Helena a 1-0 lead with the RBI coming from Jean Carmona. David Fry stepped in two batters later against Wilfry Cruz (W, 2-0) and sent a ringing double down the left field line, scoring Yeison Coca to extend the lead. With rain starting to fall, Helena starter Victor Castaneda allowed the first three to reach in the bottom of the third. Eddie Hernandez came to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out, but before he could step in the umpiring crew called for a rain delay. The delay lasted 20 minutes, but Castaneda punched out Hernandez for the first out. Zack Shannon then hit a sac fly, cutting the lead in half. Zack Jones hit a ground ball to second that could have ended the inning, but the ball took a wicked hop on Yeison Coca, and ricocheted into the outfield scoring Luis Cossio to tie the game. Joe Robbins then walked, and Cesar Garcia delivered a two run double, giving Missoula the 4-2 lead and ending the night for Castaneda. Clayton Andrews then came in to face David Sanchez, who doubled home two to extend the lead to four. The Brewers managed just six hits in the ballgame, with only two coming after the third inning. *** Helena Game One Box Score This was technically a home game for the Osprey. An earlier game at Missoula was rained out, but since the teams didn't play again in Missoula for the rest of the first half, the game needed to be played at Helena. Clearly, the home crowd vibes envigorated the Osprey. Six hits and 4 walks scattered throughout the Helena lineup, with the lone extra-base knock being David Fry's 3rd inning double. After a hot start, the offense has petered out a bit. Hopefully, this young group can rebound, adjust, and get back in business.
