  1. Final: Burlington 3, Wisconsin 2 Late Burlington Run Beats Wisconsin Bees top Rattlers 3-2 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Burlington Bees defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-2 on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in the first game of a three-game series. Keiner Pina drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth. The Rattlers (18-23) took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Roscetti started the inning with a double and took third on a wild pitch. Joantgel Segovia drove in Roscetti with a single. Tristen Lutz was next and he tripled to the corner in right to send Segovia home for a 2-0 lead. Lutz would try to score on a slow grounder to third off the bat of Demi Orimoloye, but he was thrown out at the plate. The Rattlers would not threaten to score again. Burlington (17-21) came back with a run in the top of the third. Torii Hunter tripled with one out and scored on a grounder to short off the bat of Pina. Jo Adell tied the game for the Bees with a two-out solo home run in the top of the sixth. Wisconsin starting pitcher Christian Taugner left after six innings. He allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Burlington took the lead in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Robbie Hitt. Leonardo Rivas doubled to start the inning. Pina singled with one out to score Rivas and the Bees were up 3-2. Brett Hanewich relieved for the Bees and retired Wisconsin in order in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the win for his second save of the season. The loss dropped the Timber Rattlers to 4-8 in games decided by one run. Wisconsin is 4-13, including a 1-7 record at home, against the Bees since the start of the 2017 season. Game two of the series is Saturday afternoon. Zach Davies will make the start for the Timber Rattlers as part of his rehabilitation assignment for the Milwaukee Brewers. Simon Mathews is scheduled to start for the Bees. Game time is 1:05pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score Wisconsin Game Log

  3. Final: Beloit 4, Wisconsin 1 Beloit Snaps Tie with Three Runs in Ninth Inning Snappers beat Wisconsin 4-1 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Beloit Snappers broke open a pitchers' duel with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-1 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Snappers (15-19) scored in the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Hunter Hargrove and Jordan Devencenzi for a 1-0 lead. Tristen Lutz tied the game for the Rattlers (18-21) with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning. The homer was the fourth of the season for Lutz. Nelson Hernández had another stellar outing as the Rattlers starting pitcher. He allowed one run on four hits over seven innings. In his last two starts, Hernández has allowed two runs over fourteen innings. Ivan Andueza was the starter for the Snappers and he worked five innings. He was touched for three hits and struck out six over his night before giving way to the bullpen. Wisconsin's offense nearly gave him a lead in the bottom of the sixth. KJ Harrison was at second with one out when Devin Hairston singled to right field. Mickey McDonald, who made two spectacular catches earlier in the game, came up firing to the plate and threw out Harrison to deny Wisconsin the lead. Beloit broke the tie in the top of the ninth. Hargrove and Devencenzi started the rally with one-out singles. Logan Farrar followed with a tripled to the gap in right-center to score both runners. Jesus Lopez, who had driven in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of Beloit's 7-6 win on Tuesday afternoon, was next and he doubled to right-center to score Farrar and the Snappers were up 4-1. The Rattlers managed a two-out single from Zach Clark in the bottom of the ninth, but that was all they could muster. Mitchell Jordan was the winning pitcher for Beloit. He nearly gave up the run in the sixth inning, but would not give up a run over the final four innings while striking out four. The five-game series is even with the Rattlers winning the first two games and the Snappers winning games three and four. The final game of the series is set for Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Dylan File (5-1, 3.10) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has named Jean Ruiz (0-2, 5.19) as their starter. Game time is 6:35pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score Nelson Hernandez pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball and deserved better than a no-decision, but that's what he gets. I don't think he has a usable out pitch right now and relies on fastball command to get outs. Being around the zone is better than not, but he's going to have to improve on either his curve or change to make the step forward he'll need to. With a double, home run and walk, Tristen Lutz has raised his batting average above .200 for literally the first time this year (he went 0-8 to start the season). After a 539 OPS in April, he's put up a 759 OPS in May, which is well above the Midwest League average of 711. He has a 629 OPS overall. Wisconsin Game Log Ninth inning of doom: Beloit Top of the 9th Lazaro Armenteros strikes out swinging. Hunter Hargrove singles on a ground ball to right fielder Tristen Lutz. Jordan Devencenzi singles on a line drive to right fielder Tristen Lutz. Hunter Hargrove to 3rd. Logan Farrar triples (3) on a fly ball to center fielder Zach Clark. Hunter Hargrove scores. Jordan Devencenzi scores. Jesus Lopez doubles (4) on a line drive to center fielder Zach Clark. Logan Farrar scores. Nick Allen called out on strikes. Jesus Lage grounds out, shortstop Gilbert Lara to first baseman KJ Harrison.

  6. Both assigned to the DSL roster, which for the time being has 38 players. That's including the 12 guys who signed "future" contracts last year, all of who will need to be activated prior to the first game of the DSL season, which is June 2nd. DSL roster limit is 35. So we'll see at least 3 cuts/transfers/DL moves off of the roster in the next few weeks.

  8. Final (Game Two): Beloit 7, Wisconsin 6 Snappers Spoil Rattlers Rally With Late Run Beloit takes game two 7-6 with a run in the top of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers staged a furious comeback in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Beloit Snappers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the sixth, but evened the score with a four run outburst. Then, the Snappers received a clutch two-out RBI hit in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead that they would not lose. The teams split the twinbill with Wisconsin winning game one 4-2. The teams traded runs in the second inning. In the top of the second, Austin Beck singled and stole second. Then, Jordan Devencenzi doubled to knock in Beck for the Snappers. Wisconsin loaded the bases in the bottom of the second on singles by Pat McInerney and Gilbert Lara and a walk to Devin Hairston. McInerney would score on a wild pitch by Beloit starter Bryce Conley threw a wild pitch. Beloit (14-19) went back in front with a four-run third inning that saw them drive Wisconsin starter Carlos Herrera out of the game. The frame started with a walk, a stolen base, a single, and another stolen base. Lazaro Armenteros, the third hitter of the inning, doubled to knock in both runners and put the Snappers up 3-1. Herrera gave up a single and hit a batter to load the bases with no outs and end his day. Reliever Michael Petersen entered in a tough spot and allowed two runs to score. Devencenzi had an RBI single and Jack Meggs grounded into a force out at second that let in the run to put the Snappers up 5-1. Jay Feliciano, who had a two-run single to put Wisconsin (18-20) in the lead in game one of the doubleheader, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Snappers scored an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Trace Loehr. The insurance was not enough as the Rattlers rallied for four runs to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Wisconsin loaded the bases with one out against Jesus Zambrano and Lara lined a single to center off the glove of the Beloit shortstop to score two runs. Nick Highberger took over for Zambrano as Beloit's third pitcher of the game and got the second out on a ground out that moved two runners into scoring position for Feliciano. The Rattlers left fielder came through with single to right that scored both runs to tie the game 6-6. Feliciano had five RBI in the twinbill with the Snappers. Matt Hardy, who had come in from the Wisconsin bullpen to get the final out of the sixth inning, gave up a leadoff single to Beck, who had three hits in the nightcap, in the top of the seventh. A sacrifice bunt moved Beck to second before Hardy got the second out on a foul pop. But, Hardy could not get the final out before Jesus Lopez sliced a single to right to score Beck with the go-ahead run. The Rattlers tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh as KJ Harrison and McInerney draw walks with two outs, but Gabriel García, who had run for Lara in the sixth inning, grounded into a game-ending force play. The loss ended Wisconsin's five-game winning streak. The win ended Beloit's six-game losing streak. Game four of the series is set for Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Nelson Hernández (5-2, 3.77) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has named Ivan Andueza (0-1, 7.84) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 6:35pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score Wisconsin Game Log Rattlers lose late: Beloit Top of the 7th Gabriel Garcia remains in the game as the third baseman. Tristen Lutz remains in the game as the left fielder. Austin Beck singles on a ground ball to center fielder Zach Clark. Jordan Devencenzi out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Matt Hardy to second baseman Nick Roscetti. Austin Beck to 2nd. Jack Meggs flies out to left fielder Tristen Lutz in foul territory. Jesus Lopez singles on a line drive to right fielder Joantgel Segovia. Austin Beck scores. Jesus Lage grounds out to first baseman Pat McInerney.
  9. Final (Game One): Wisconsin 4, Beloit 2 Rattlers Rally for Fifth Straight Win Wisconsin beats Beloit 4-2 in game one of Tuesday's twinbill By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers missed on their first two prime scoring opportunities in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Beloit Snappers. The Rattlers did not waste their third as Jay Feliciano smacked a two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 2-2 tie at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers would close out the game and match their season-high winning streak with a 4-2 victory over their in-state rivals. The Snappers (13-19) grabbed the lead in the first inning of game one. Wisconsin starting pitcher Bowden Francis walked back-to-back hitters with one out in the first inning. Hunter Hargrove blooped a single to right with two outs to chase home the run to put Beloit in front. Wisconsin (18-19) had great opportunities in both the second and third innings. They loaded the bases with one out in the second, but Feliciano hit into an inning-ending double play. The Rattlers got the first two batters on base in the third, but a popup on a bunt attempt and another inning-ending double play stopped the rally in its tracks. The Rattlers evened the score in the bottom of the fourth. Gabriel García reached on a double with two outs. Gilbert Lara was next and he dropped a single into shallow center to score García with the tying run. Beloit went back in front in the top of the fifth inning. Nick Allen singled and stole second. Trace Loehr doubled to the gap in right-center and Allen scored for a 2-1 lead. Tristen Lutz brought the Rattlers back to even in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out solo home run. The homer was his third of the season. The Rattlers loaded the bases again in the bottom of the sixth inning and this time they cashed in the chance. The frame started with a single by Demi Orimoloye. Pat McInerney attempted to bunt Orimoloye into scoring position and reached on an error. García was next and he bunted both runners into scoring position. The Snappers elected to walk Lara intentionally to load the bases for Feliciano. Feliciano also had to face a new pitcher when he stepped to the plate in the sixth inning as reliever Seth Martinez entered the game. Feliciano made the most of his second opportunity as he lined a single to left to score two runs and give the Rattlers a 4-2 lead. Robbie Hitt, who relieved for Francis at the start of the sixth inning, took the mound in the top of the seventh inning and closed out the game with a perfect frame to earn his first professional save. The win was the fifth in a row for the Rattlers. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Snappers. *** Wisconsin Box Score Gabriel Garcia (pictured above) and Gilbert Lara each had two hits and Tristen Lutz homered and walked to pull the Rattlers within a game of .500 after entering the month 7-16. While Joantgel Segovia (who also added a hit) has an 1100 OPS in May, Garcia has actually been hotter with an 1157 OPS. At .230, his batting average is still ugly but he's really improved his approach at the plate and has made some loud contact. He's one of those guys that when he hits it, you can really hear it connect. I've mentioned his defense at third is... maybe he's a first baseman. But it's smart to keep giving him reps there for the time being because you'd rather find out in A ball than trying it out a few years from now. For the second game in a row, Bowden Francis' command eluded him as he was leaving a lot of balls up and out of the strike zone. But he managed to limit the damage to 2 runs in 5 innings of work. One of my favorite Rattler pitchers, Robbie Hitt, cleaned up the final two innings flawlessly including a strike out. Everything Hitt throws - fastball, cutter, change, curve (I think, though the cutter/curve may be variations of the same pitch) - moves. While the ball going here, there, and everywhere can work to his detriment at times, if he's able to have any sort of uptick in command, watch out. Wisconsin Game Log Rattlers take the lead late: Wisconsin Bottom of the 6th Demi Orimoloye singles on a ground ball to left fielder Lazaro Armenteros. Pat McInerney hits a sacrifice bunt. Fielding error by pitcher Jared Poche'. Demi Orimoloye to 2nd. Pat McInerney to 1st. Gabriel Garcia out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Jesus Lage to first baseman Hunter Hargrove. Demi Orimoloye to 3rd. Pat McInerney to 2nd. Jared Poche' intentionally walks Gilbert Lara. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Zach Clark replaces Pat McInerney. Pitching Change: Seth Martinez replaces Jared Poche'. Jay Feliciano singles on a line drive to left fielder Lazaro Armenteros. Demi Orimoloye scores. Zach Clark scores. Gilbert Lara to 2nd. Devin Hairston strikes out swinging. Joantgel Segovia flies out to center fielder Mickey McDonald.

  11. Final: Colorado Springs 8, Oklahoma City 5 ORF, OPITZ HOMER IN SKY SOX THIRD STRAIGHT WIN OVER DODGERS COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox won their third straight game against the Oklahoma City Dodgers and took the series at Security Service Field on Monday night with an 8-5 victory. Colorado Springs is now a half game back of the Dodgers in the American North standings. The Sky Sox started the offense in the early goings with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After leadoff Nate Orf walked on four pitches, Tyrone Taylor made it a second and third situation with his double to left field. During Christian Bethancourt's at-bat, a wild pitch by Dodgers' Manny Banuelos would plate Orf as the first run while Keon Broxton's sixth double of the year would bring around the next two, making it a 3-0 Sky Sox advantage. In the second inning, Orf, who totaled nine home runs last season, smacked his first home run of 2018 at Security Service Field to extend Colorado Springs' lead to 4-0. Scoreless until the sixth, Oklahoma City found their way onto the board when Alex Verdugo led off the inning with a single and Kyle Garlick lifted a ball over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Dodgers continued to add on in the seventh, putting up a solo run manufactured on three straight singles to make it a 4-3 ballgame. In the seventh, the Sky Sox added two insurance runs to extend the lead to 6-3. Shane Opitz (walk), Orf (single), and Eric Sogard (single) combined to load the bases with no outs. Tyrone Taylor knocked a deep fly ball to right field to plate one run while Bethancourt singled to plate the sixth run. Opitz capped off the night for Colorado Springs' scoring in the eighth after slugging his first home run of the season - a two-run towering fly ball over the right-field wall - making it an 8-3 advantage. The insurance would come in handy as Oklahoma City put together a late rally off of closer Radhames Liz. After Liz surrendered a leadoff single and two consecutive extra-base hits, he continued on to strike out the next two batters. Tim Dillard finished off the three-hour and thirteen-minute game with a two-pitch groundout to Garlick to make it a final 8-5 Sky Sox win. The Sky Sox continue into the final game of the series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Security Service Field tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. Following tomorrow's game against the Dodgers, the Sky Sox will welcome to town the Memphis Redbirds, top affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. *** Colorado Springs Box Score #FreeNateOrf on base 3 more times, including his first home run on the year. Eric Sogard and Keon Broxton both had much-needed 2 hit games, and Tyrone Taylor had 2 hits as well. Taylor and Broxton may be battling for a 40-man roster spot as the season progresses. I doubt they carry both on the 40-man at the same time. Colorado Springs Game Log
  12. Final: Wisconsin 10, Beloit 3 Rattlers Win Big Over Beloit Wisconsin bangs out 16 hits in a 10-3 win to start series with Snappers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won their fourth straight game with a 10-3 victory over the Beloit Snappers on Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Timber Rattlers offense collected 16 hits in the game, rallied from an early deficit, and blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning. Joantgel Segovia put the Timber Rattlers (17-19) in front in the first inning. The Wisconsin lead-off batter lifted a flyball over the fence in left for his first home run of the season. Later in the first, Demi Orimoloye tripled to drive home Payton Henry for a 2-0 lead. The Snappers (13-18) tied the game in the top of the third inning. Jordan Devencenzi hit a homer to start the inning. Nick Allen followed with a single and an errant pickoff throw by Wisconsin starter Alec Bettinger allowed Allen to take third. Trace Loehr got Allen home with a sacrifice fly. Beloit took the lead in the fourth. Logan Farrar doubled to start the inning, but he was still at second base with two outs. Jesus Lopez delivered a two-out single to drive in Farrar and the Snappers were up 3-2. Orimoloye erased that lead in the fifth inning. Henry, who had four hits on Monday night, singled with two outs to get the inning to Orimoloye. The Wisconsin left fielder crushed a 3-1 pitch over the batters' eye in center field for a two-run homer and a 4-3 Wisconsin lead. The Rattlers poured in on the Snappers with two outs in the sixth inning to put the game away. KJ Harrison was at first with two outs when Nick Roscetti dropped a bunt single. Segovia was next and he doubled to left to score Harrison. Tristen Lutz followed with a two-run single and that knocked Beloit starter Xavier Altamirano out of the game. Henry greeted reliever Joshua Reagan with a triple to right-center that scored Lutz. Henry scored the fifth and final run of the inning on a wild pitch and the Rattlers were up 9-3. The Rattlers tacked on one more run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Gabriel García. Bettinger tossed six innings as the starting pitcher for the Rattlers. He allowed three runs - two earned - and struck out five. Bettinger's start was the fifth straight quality start by Wisconsin's pitchers. Braulio Ortiz worked a scoreless seventh and eighth to maintain the lead. Matt Hardy worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game. Segovia went 3-for-5 on Monday to raise his batting average to .410. He also moved his current on-base streak to 27 games. Segovia has been on base in 30 of the 31 games he has played for Wisconsin this season. The Timber Rattlers and Snappers will play two on Tuesday afternoon. The game between the teams at Pohlman Field in Beloit on April 6 was frozen out and postponed to May 15. First pitch for game one is 12:05pm. The Rattlers have named Bowden Francis (1-1, 3.60) and Carlos Herrera (0-2, 5.33) as their starting pitchers. Beloit plans on Jared Poché (0-1, 3.38) and Bryce Conley (1-2, 5.74) as their starters. Both games of the twinbill are scheduled for seven innings. Game two will start approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one. *** AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "The Rattlers beat Beloit 10–3 on Monday night to win their fourth straight game. Mehring & Kyle talk about the offensive outburst from the Rattlers in the game and in the month of May. Plus, hear from Alec Bettinger, Demi Orimoloye, & Hainley Statia." *** Wisconsin Box Score The Wisconsin offense continues to surge, all the way up to 4th in team batting average after being dead last a few weeks ago. Even better, they are third in team OPS. Payton Henry's 4-5 day doesn't even get him player of the day honors, which went to Demi Orimoloye with his 2 hit (triple, home run) and 1 walk effort. Joantgel Segovia, who has hits in all but 5 games this season and multiple hits in 17 of 31 games, collected 3 hits himself, including his second professional long ball. Tristen Lutz, KJ Harrison, and Nick Roscetti each had two hits. Roscetti is hitting .353 and at 24 years of age, should probably be promoted soon Alec Bettinger continues to pitch well despite a subpar ERA. He went 6 full innings for the third straight start, allowing 2 runs. Braulio Ortiz, a 6'7 behemoth who had all kinds of troubles with Helena last summer, continues to quietly put together a case to get excited about him. He pitched 2 scoreless with 1 walks, 2 hits allowed, and 4 strikeouts. He throws legit mid-upper 90's fastball with late bite and a short late-breaking curve, but has a bit of a goofy arm motion that tends to get out of whack (see: 17 walks in 12 innings pitched). When he's throwing quality strikes, he's a legit big league prospect. Just have to make those quality strikes much less infrequent. Wisconsin Game Log Wisconsin Bottom of the 6th Gilbert Lara pops out to shortstop Nick Allen. KJ Harrison singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jack Meggs. Gabriel Garcia flies out to right fielder Jack Meggs. Nick Roscetti singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Jesus Lopez. KJ Harrison to 2nd. Joantgel Segovia doubles (9) on a fly ball to left fielder Lazaro Armenteros. KJ Harrison scores. Nick Roscetti to 3rd. Tristen Lutz singles on a line drive to left fielder Lazaro Armenteros. Nick Roscetti scores. Joantgel Segovia scores. Pitching Change: Josh Reagan replaces Xavier Altamirano. Payton Henry triples (2) on a line drive to center fielder Austin Beck. Tristen Lutz scores. With Demi Orimoloye batting, wild pitch by Josh Reagan, Payton Henry scores. Demi Orimoloye walks. Pat McInerney grounds out, pitcher Josh Reagan to first baseman Hunter Hargrove.
  13. Griep walks a lot of guys. He's had 18 appearances and issued at least 1 walk in 10 of them.
  14. That BA mock is the same one you asked about a few posts above. Look back a few posts... I revealed who it was.
  15. The way Broxton is hitting in AAA, I doubt he has much of any trade value at all at this point. Interested teams may just wait for him to be DFA'd.
  16. The Shuckers and Mudcats are both currently operating with 24-man rosters. All of the pitcher shuffling and middle infield injuries have caused an unusual amount of chaos for the minor league operations staff. The Mudcats are short a pitcher, the Shuckers a position player (assuming 13-man staffs for both).
  17. As mentioned in Sunday's link report, RHP Aaron Wilkerson has been activated off of the 7-day DL for the Sky Sox and made his season debut.
  18. Sanchez is probably only there until Asher arrives back with the Sky Sox. The Brewers have not backfilled Sanchez' roster spot in Carolina, which would seem to indicate his stay with the Sky Sox will be brief for now.
  19. Final: Wisconsin 6, Great Lakes 0 Rattlers Beat Great Lakes 3-1 to Earn the Sweep Wisconsin wins with just three hits By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers completed a three-game sweep of the Great Lakes Loons at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium with a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon in front of 4,670 fans. Great Lakes (10-23) scored a run in the first inning and threatened to get a lot more against Wisconsin starting pitcher Christian Taugner. Brandon Montgomery started the game with a double on the first pitch Taugner made. A sacrifice bunt moved Montgomery to third base. Montgomery beat the throw home on a grounder to second off the bat of Romer Cuadrado and the Loons were up 1-0. The next two Loons hitters had singles to load the bases, but Taugner escaped the inning with a strikeout and a flyout to hold Great Lakes to a single run. Wisconsin (16-19) scored a run without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game. Great Lakes starting pitcher walked Tristen Lutz with one out, made an errant pickoff, and threw a wild pitch to let Lutz get around to third base. KJ Harrison drove in Lutz with a sacrifice fly to even the score. Taugner went into cruise control over his next five innings. The right-hander allowed two hits after his shaky first inning and at one point he retired 13 in a row to keep the game even while the Wisconsin offense struggled to get anything going. The game was still tied 1-1 heading to the top of the seventh inning when Jose Cuas took over for Taugner and he allowed the first three batters to reach base on a double, a single, and a hit batsman. Cuas escaped the jam with a flyout to shallow center, a strikeout, and a liner to third that was caught. The Rattlers were able to cash in on their opportunity in the seventh inning. Devin Hairston walked and Joantgel Segovia was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A balk by Loons reliever Riley Ottesen allowed both runners to move into scoring position. Lutz sent a fly ball deep enough to score Hairston with the go-ahead run. Harrison bought the Rattlers some insurance with a two-out, RBI double to drive in Segovia and the Rattlers were up 3-1. The Loons loaded the bases again in the top of the eighth inning against Cuas on two walks and a hit batsman. Michael Peterson relieved Cuas to get the final out. Rodrigo Benoit entered the game for the top of the ninth inning from the Wisconsin bullpen and retired the first two batters he faced. However, Benoit hit Brayan Morales on a 1-2 pitch and walked Cuadrado on a 3-2 pitch to put the tying runs on board. Benoit picked up his third save of the season by getting Jared Walker to popout to center to close out the game in front of the largest home crowd of the season. The Timber Rattlers have won nine straight games over the Loons. Wisconsin swept a three-game series from Great Lakes at home in 2016, a three-game series at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan in 2017, and this season's three-game series. Wisconsin finished their first half schedule of twelve games against the Eastern Division with nine wins. The Rattlers are off on Sunday. They continue their long homestand when they return to action on Monday night with a game against the Beloit Snappers. Wisconsin has named Alec Bettinger (1-3, 5.04) as their starting pitcher on for game one of the five-game series. Game time is 6:35pm. *** Wisconsin Box Score Wisconsin Game Log
  20. Final: Wisconsin 6, Great Lakes 0 File Ks 10 over Eight Scoreless as Rattlers Shutout Loons Wisconsin beats Great Lakes 6-0 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Dylan File struck out ten Great Lakes Loons batters over eight scoreless innings on Friday Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium to earn his fifth win of the season. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers right-hander got plenty of support from the offense and cruised to a 6-0 victory. Wisconsin (15-19) went up early with a four-run second inning. Gilbert Lara started the inning with a single that extended his hitting streak to thirteen games. Zach Clark followed with a single. Then, Payton Henry moved his hitting streak to ten games with an infield single up the third base line. The throw to first was wild and Lara scored as Clark and Henry each moved up a base. Gabriel García was next and he cracked a double to score both runners. Later in the inning, García scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead. García added to the lead in the fourth inning. He tripled with two outs and scored on a balk by Great Lakes starting pitcher Max Gamboa. Tristen Lutz made it 6-0 in favor of the Rattlers in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single to score Devin Hairston with the final run of the game. The Loons (10-22) didn't have a real threat against File until the eighth inning when the first two batters of the inning reached. File, who has now won four straight starts, got the first out of the inning with a flyout to center. Then, he finished his night with back-to-back strikeouts to stop the Great Lakes rally cold and allow him to reach double digits in strikeouts. File allowed four hits and walked one while setting a new single-game high as a professional for innings pitched (eight) and strikeouts (ten). Gabe Friese took over in the top of the ninth inning and tossed a scoreless frame to close out the game to give the Rattlers their first shutout of the season.
