  1. Guess since Gomez twice couldn't get the pitcher to bat in the same inning that Lucroy should be moved back in the #8 hole.
  2. The offensive display today truly is offensive. It's painful to watch some of these ABs.
  3. Season at first brink; Brave stopper stands atop mound. Is this "must win" game?
  4. Saw Vinny Rottino's name in the Nashville/New Orleans box score (LF for New Orleans). Kinda surprised he's still bouncing around organized baseball.
  5. 2-out RBIs for McGehee. Just a matter of time before his hard hit outs would turn to hits.
  6. (a) Pinch hit any left-handed hitting bench player: Kotsay, Kottaras, Counsell, Morgan. Results may not have changed, but I'd think that any of those four is a better option than Almonte at bat against the RHP. Might have gone with Kottaras, since the team's carrying 3 catchers anyway. (b) Kintzler looked excellent in the 7th, but was it because it was against 7, 8, 9 in the order? Rolling the dice with Kintzler isn't shocking. But with Loe ending up in the game anyway, I probably would have gone with him against 1, 2, and 3 in the order. Since it was a "gravy game," it's hard to really complain much at all, especially with a short bench and a bullpen not at full strength. But I'm not sure if Roenicke's decision making was determined by the short bench and bullpen, or is it indicative of his management style.
  7. Not quite a defeat pulled from the jaws of victory, but definitely feels like a W that got away. 8th Inning is definitely one to question the manager's decision making: (a) Not pinch-hitting for Almonte with 2 on and 1 out. (b) Leaving Kintzler in for another inning instead of bringing in a more-experienced pitcher against the top of the Phillies order. Can't complain much about taking 2 out of 3 in PHI, while tagging their #1 & #2 starters. But when a sweep was a possibility and an off-day tomorrow, I would've like to see the "all-in" mentality from Roenicke.
  8. Pray for a rainout, get a deluge of runs. Much nicer to have the boxscore floodgates open.
  9. CASEY MCGEHEE! Finally a hard hit ball turns into RBIs for him.
  10. A win's a win, but it's nicer to have them come a little more easily. Will need a good long start tomorrow to rest the bullpen.
  11. Manufacturing runs....or having them manufactured for you. Take them any way you can get them.
  12. Some observations from the tough loss at Nationals Park: (1) Ballpark was dead. Capitals game had something to do with it. (2) Good turnout of Brewers fans. Evident around the Metro and in the walk to and from the ballpark. When Weeks hit his homer, you could see several sections where Brewers fans were massed (3rd base side, LF corner, above Brewers bullpen). Would guess a Brewers fan contingent around 500+. (Last year, the Saturday game was both a UW-Madison and Marquette University alumni outing; if that's the case this year, there should be even more.) (3) Current lineup against LHPs is dreadful. Hart can't come back soon enough to see Erick Almonte DFA'd. Whenever the team gets to "full strength," it should at least have a decent bench. (4) The infield shifts were interesting. They may be based on sound analysis, but with a 2B and SS with limited range, the shift becomes "all-in" concerning results. There is little margin of error with the infield shifts. (5) Bottom of 10th was a comedy of errors (literally and figuratively). The defensive side of the game is not the Brewers' strength. It cost them tonight. (6) Narveson's outing was good enough to win most nights. If he is our #5 starter, then the rotation is solid. (7) Home plate umpiring: hard to tell from the LF corner, but it seemed like the strike zone was atypical or erratic tonight. I would wager that Narveson's bad inning was worsened by that, but those who got the game on TV will have to give definitive judgment. So far, I've yet to see the Brewers win in DC. Hope that changes with Gallardo on the mound tomorrow. Weather will be dicey, but there is potential of getting the game in. Roenicke may have to play for some early runs, in case the game doesn't go the full 9 innings.
  13. Beating the Cubs + Taking lead against their bullpen = Very satisfying win.
  14. Hey, stealing bases in the 8th inning while up 5-0 is against the unwritten rules!!!
  15. Fielder going opposite field! Great approach the last couple of games.
  16. CG for Gallardo! If it's going to be done right, you've got to do it yourself! ::standing ovation::
  17. I know it's probably anecdotal "evidence", but it sure seems like the contact play just doesn't turn out well for the Brewers the last couple of seasons.
