  2. Regarding WR, I was wondering about Iowa State WR Allen Lazard. Big guy - 6'5" - almost looks like a tight end. Definitely not a burner - but a possession guy. Should be there for us in the 4th round - maybe even lower. You never know about guys like him.
  3. I don't really know anything about Burks. Anyone have any info on him? I watched some video. He's not that big -- so he looks really quick and athletic. We will see how that translates to the pros. Edit: Interesting, i just read some stuff about Burks on JSonline - and they said he used to be a strong safety - and it shows. He just doesn't have the bigness you'd expect in linebacker. Doesn't mean he's bad - just not that big of a guy.
  4. Brewers now have 23 errors in 27 games - second most in baseball (one behind the Yankees).
  5. Sogard at SS isn't a particularly good thing. It's pretty frustrating that he's on pace to play 138 games and get 300 ABs.
  6. I believe Roger Dorn is the 3B answer.
  7. Well, some interesting guys available for tomorrow. Here are some of my favorites: Will Hernandez, James Daniel and Austin Corbett - interior offensive linemen - really good players, good value - can start right away. Harold Landry - OLB - Would be great value - and really fill a need. Dallas Goedert - TE - Probably don't need, but I like the guy and think he'll be good. Justin Reid - S - Good, smart player who could come in and contribute right away. Josh Jackson - CB - Not that much of a need anymore, but would be great value at the pick. Christian Kirk - WR - I don't know that the much about the wideouts - but I like Kirk. However, he's more of a slot guy. But there are several highly ranked ones still there. I'm sure there are other guys -- I've just named some that I've taken note of.
  8. Final: Birmingham 7, Biloxi 3 Biloxi Falls To Barons in Series Opener Crooked Numbers in 5th, 7th the difference in Oveture By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers (Photo: Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score Ugly game for the Shuckers tonight. 9. I was hoping one of Tremaine Edmunds, Roquan Smith, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Denzel Ward or Derwin James would drop to Green Bay. I think it played out pretty amazing - we had two of those guys available. And then the trade(s) happened. I'm okay with Jaire Alexander, however, if the Packers moved back thinking they could still get Edmunds or James at #18 - then they got too cute. Ultimately, if they club really wanted Alexander - then we did great. They are saying he was the guy they wanted all along - and if that's true - then great. Adding the extra #1 next year is sweet.

  11. I'd love it if Counsel gave Williams the chance to pitch. He hasn't been out there in five days.
  12. That's tough. Eric had been doing well. The Brewers had really limited his exposure to lefties - and he was a great power source. Oh well, that's why we like to have depth.

  17. I just looked. Using bWAR: Hisle: 5.3 WAR Oglivie: 4.2 Lezcano: 4.0 Thomas: 3.3
  18. 1978 - Larry Hisle, Sixto Lezcano, Ben Oglivie and Gorman Thomas. That's my guess. Those four mixed in the DH - pretty much making them all full timers.
  19. One thing about Lowrie -- look at what Neil Walker got in trade, and I'm betting it is similar - with Lowrie worth a little more. Both are solid infielders with decent bats. Walker (at the time of the trade) was making a lot more money, but he has a very consistent track record. Lowrie is a couple of years older, an erratic track record, and more versatile. I say that Lowrie is worth a little more because his contract. Walker was making $17M or something like that. Lowrie makes $6M. You're not taking on as much salary with Lowrie. Another comparable might be Eduardo Núñez. He was hitting .300+ last year when he was dealt to the Red Sox for a couple of low lever minor leaguers. Nunez was making only $4M last year. All these guys were in their free agent years. So, if Lowrie starts to hit more like regular Jed Lowrie - I don't expect him to fetch a ton. It certainly won't be a complete throwaway, but nothing huge. Now, all this goes out the window if Lowrie keeps hitting like Mike Trout. He's already got six HRs. He's generally been more of a 10-15 HR guy - at most. But if he's hitting .330 with 15 HR at the break - he's a much different player than Walker or Nunez.
  20. With the Brewers drafting so late, I'm wondering if a Community Mock Draft is feasible. Any thoughts?
  21. Still can't believe the Orioles gave Chris Davis that huge contract. They still owe the something like $110M. Brutal.
  22. Final: Biloxi 5, Montgomery 4 Gatewood Provides a Pair of Go-Ahead Hits in Win Shuckers Use Gatewood and Franklin Home Runs to Down the Biscuits, 5-4 By Spencer Siegel / Biloxi Shuckers Biloxi Shuckers first baseman Jake Gatewood wields his bat. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score Biloxi overcame four errors to defeat Montgomery 5-4 on Monday night. Jake Gatewood provided many of the fireworks, going 2-4 with a home run - plus he drove in the winning run in the 8th inning with a two-out single. Blake Allemand, Dylan Moore and Clint Coulter chipped in two hits each. Nick Franklin added a home run. On the mound, Zach Brown has a solid game, giving up two unearned runs in five innings of work. The Shucker staff only gave up seven hits and did not walk any batters. Batting Blake Allemand: 2-4, 2B, SB Nick Franklin: 1-4, HR Jake Gatewood: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI Dylan Moore: 2-4, 3B Clint Coulter: 2-3 Pitching Zack Brown: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 0BB, 4K Quintin Torres-Costa: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 3K Nick Ramirez: 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 0BB, 0K, Win Nate Griep: 1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 0BB, 1K, Save Notes Corey Ray has one hit in his last 22 at bats - dropping his average to .266. Lucas Erceg was hit in the head by a pitch in the bottom of the 8th and removed from the game. No word on how serious it is.
