  1. Scooter Gennett is not on the Milwaukee Brewers. I don't really care about Scooter Gennett. We let him go. The club had their reasons. Like it or not, we can't change that. And why is he being brought up in a Matt Garza trade thread?
  2. We have a system to vote, and I'd appreciate that people adhere to the rules. To simply remove players from eligibility skews the results. Brinson, Hader, and Phillips are all eligible and part of this voting.
  3. Jesús Saves, first post. Welcome to the board. Thanks for voting.
  4. adambr2, no Erceg? Just checking in case you made an error. Thanks.
  5. Thanks. Appreciate the heads up. I'll keep an eye out for any conflicts.
  6. Agreed. Give Brinson what you gave Arcia last year: consistent playing time. Keep Brett down. If the Brewers are out of it in September, get Phillips regular pt as well. I'll agree as well. Let the guy you see emerging as your CF play everyday. There will likely be growing pains, but the more he plays, the better his chance to get his game together and really be a solid contributor. My preference is Brinson, but whatever the team wants to do is fine. I think the Arcia comparison is good.
  7. Thanks to Clancy for getting things going. Hope everyone enjoys playing along. There is no system upheaval like last trade deadline, but I think we'll see a lot of movement.
  8. "I'll never post here again if..." ...you can prove the impossible. Like you're taking some risk with this challenge.
  9. Going to throw this one out there: Milwaukee gets Kinsler, Wilson and Anibal Sanchez Detroit gets Jonathan Villar (I say this because getting Kinsler essentially says we are giving up on Villar - so no point in hanging on to him). If not Villar, then a couple of low level prospects. The key here is Milwaukee taking on Sanchez's contract. The guy is junk at this point. By taking on his salary (roughly $6M left in 2017, and a $5M buyout for 2018), we are essentially buying Wilson and Kinsler for $11M. Of course, we are also taking Kinsler's and Wilson's salaries - that saves Detroit about $5M more in 2017 - plus any future salaries (or buyouts) of both players. For Milwaukee, it adds a quality left handed reliever and a steady defensive 2B. The Brewers would likely just cut Sanchez (or perhaps keep him and get rid of Peralta or someone like that). Either way, he's probably worthless. Just an idea.
  10. As noted by a couple of people, I did not realize how productive Kinsler had been the last few years. Baseball-reference.com has him at an average of about 5.9 WAR for his last three full years (2014-16). Fangraphs has him at an average of about 5.1 WAR during that same time frame. Either way, that's pretty good. Even though he isn't having a great year in 2017, he's still has produced 2.1 bWAR/2.2 fWAR thus far. That's not too bad (not great - but not bad). His BABIP is about 25 points lower than his career numbers, so there's some hope that he will rebound a bit (he's hitting .248 this year after hitting over .280 since coming to Detroit in 2014). Fangraphs and Baseball Reference still rate his defense has excellent (in fact, Fangraphs puts him as the top defensive 2B in baseball this year - at least so far). He's also a good baserunner. At 35, there's a lot to be wary about. Guys just get old - and you'd have to dig deeper and scout him to get a better feel for his performance. But if the team is giving up on Villar - and they aren't buying Sogard as a starter - he's not a bad option. Assuming Kinsler keeps up his stellar defensive play, his salary isn't too high (he makes about $4M more in 2017, and $12M for 2018). Even if he only hits .250-260, he could be a solid player for 2018 while Hiura, Dubon and Diaz continue to develop. He doesn't fit the mold of a versatile player - but such is life. I'm not necessarily saying we trade for Kinsler. Just saying that some of my initial reaction was overblown. I saw a 35 year old guy hitting under .250. Seemed like an automatic 'no way' in my head. But looking deeper, there's some value in the guy that shouldn't be dismissed.
  11. Brinson was pulled from the Colorado Springs line up this evening after one at bat. No word why. Adam McCalvy says he has NOT been traded and he is NOT injured. Leads to some speculation that perhaps Phillips is going somewhere - and Brinson is coming to Milwaukee. Just speculation. This could also involve some kind of deal with Detroit - perhaps a Kinsler/Wilson package sent to Milwaukee, with Phillips heading to Detroit. They would love a major league ready CF. Again, just throwing this info out there.
  12. JosephC, I think your math is pretty solid. I did this same exercise a week or so ago (before new rankings) and had Gray's suprlus value right around $40M - same as you. Ray and Ortiz get you close to that - and like you said - add in a fringe prospect or two get you over the top (and then some). Like it or not, we probably have to overpay a little - but you certainly don't want to overdo it. A lot may simply depend on the A's feelings about Ray. His down season may him not worth it to Oakland. They may be a team that sees him as high bust probability due to his struggles this year. I guess the Crew may be reluctant to sell low on Ray - especially if they still feel he has all-star capabilities.
  13. I did okay. ID'd the minor leaguer we traded - just hit the wrong reliever.
  14. I want to say that my March analysis is still exactly how I want to go forward. The team has been good. We've had some great finds and successes. We have a young roster and good depth. I'm not adverse to making some deals, but I think it just shows that the process is working as we desired.
  15. It's simple supply and demand. At this time, many teams want a good starter. At this time, not many are selling them. Thus - at this time - the sellers can look to sell a good pitcher (Gray) at a very high price. There just aren't many good, cheap and controllable players available. Scarcity drives up the price. Will the A's get a really high price for Gray - we shall see. But for now, the A's are trying to extract as much value as possible. They'd be fools not to try.
  16. 45 days in the majors is all it takes. He was called up on June 9.
  17. Report that the A's are 'prioritizing young center fielders as potential returns on Gray.' This is from Jon Morosi. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/244303884/nationals-yankees-interested-in-sonny-gray/
  18. Why is this thread in the transactions area? And the thread title makes no sense. What does 'TOP PROSPECTS' mean? It seems this is nothing more than a venting thread aimed at the performance of some of our minor leaguers - and our GM's apparent refusal to trade any of these guys.
  19. At this point, Garza is a no brainer pick at $5M. Come the end of the season, if he's healthy and sitting around a 4.00 ERA - that's better than league average (which is around 4.35). The Crew can always trade him down the road if they decide they want to move on from him and go with younger guys. But for now, he's pitching pretty good, and $5M is cheap for a back of the rotation guy.
  20. That actually is pretty common. Usually 8-10 guys get put into the top 100 from the recent draft. I should clarify - I erred in reading your post. I thought you were talking about the Top 100 - not the Brewers Top 30. Totally different things. Sorry for that.
  21. As has Jacob Nottingham defensively from what has been said. If they find a pitcher in Derby and possible a catcher down the road from Khris Davis, that's a fine trade. If neither pan out, than yeah it was lousy. But still way too early to make judgement on the return. You are correct. Trades take time to evaluate. Also, there's the simple fact that if the trade ends up poorly for Milwaukee, we can't freak out about it. The world doesn't end. We made a mistake, learn from it, move on. Obsessing about roster moves years after the fact does little good. As I've said, sure you have to keep a tally of all the roster moves a GM makes. He's ultimately got to be held accountable for these things in the end. But deals are made for a reason. Some will turn out good, others will bomb. So be it. That's life.
