  1. Exactly. And you're going to have to commit to Cabrera for probably three years. Nats have a lot of quality players looking at free agency after 2015. Save the money for those guys - not mediocre guys like Cabrera.
  2. I have never seen anyone review Taylor and doubt he couldn't stay in CF. Pleskoff is the first person to suggest this. Most reviewers seem to think Taylor will be an above average CF.
  3. He misjudged it by trading Cruz for a bunch of crap, not Hart vs Cruz. I believe every GM in baseball misjudged Cruz, since he was available for free on waivers prior to the 2008 season. No on claimed him so the Rangers sent him back to AAA.
  4. Not a team heat map but you can do individual players. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pc_splash.php Type in the name of the player and then on the bottom right there will be a zone profile and then you can play around with the numbers by year, pitch type, etc. That's pretty cool. Thanks for the link.
  5. Interesting to see that the average salary last year in the majors was $3.819M - a jump of 12.78% - the highest raise since 2000-2001. There's a lot of money in the game (as people have noted). Unfortunately, payroll increases for teams like Milwaukee are often just cover salary inflation. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12073194/mlb-average-salary-makes-1278-percent-jump
  6. We have a roster spot open. No harm to add him. If you find someone better you let him (or someone else) go. Not a big deal.
  7. We beat A.J. Preller to the punch on this one.
  8. Havana had a minor league club back in the 40s and 50s. It was the AAA club for the Reds in the 50s - the Sugar Kings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havana_Sugar_Kings
  9. The guy has pounded lefties the last couple of years. He can play OF as well. I don't think he's anything great as a defender, but as a platoon guy, he would fit pretty well.
  10. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12051320/jake-peavy-agrees-san-francisco-giants Reasonable price, only two years. Makes perfect sense. Perhaps Peavy won't be thinking about playing with his friend Lester the next time he has a big game ahead of him.
  11. San Diego has dealt five #1 picks from the last five drafts. Plus a second rounder as well.
  12. Braves get left-hander Max Fried (a #1 draft pick - 7th overall - and top 100 prospect at A ball last year but is coming off Tommy John surgery), second baseman/shortstop Jace Peterson (supplemental #1 pick in 2011, hits for good average, takes walks, should be ready for majors this year), third baseman Dustin Peterson (2nd round pick in 2013 - at A ball last year) and outfielder Mallex Smith (speed guy played at A ball last year - stole 88 bases). So Braves get three guys who are a couple of years away (at least), and one guy, an infielder, who could make the club this season. Friend is highly thought of (the TJ surgery is not great, but it's not the end of the world), and Jace Peterson looks like he could be a solid contributor. Mallex Smith is intriguing due to the speed. He has a .290 BA so far in the minors, so if he can get on base, he might be someone who contributes down the road. It seems like a pretty good haul for one year of Upton.
  13. The only way we take on Craig is if we get rid of Parra. Craig is set to make $5.5M. Parra should make around $6M, so they pretty much work straight up on a swap. Craig plays BU to LF and RF as well as starting at 1B against lefties. Schafer (or maybe Herrera) would back up CF. With that alignment, there's not enough at bats for Parra and Craig, so Parra get be dealt. Still, there the matter of $9M and $11M salaries in 2016-17 as well (plus a 2018 option). Taking on that is risky, so if we get Craig, we shouldn't give up much. Craig just scares me. I know he was injured last year, so maybe I'm worrying too much.
  14. I have to agree with sentiments on this board (and around the interwebs) that the Nationals came out great on this. Souza is an interesting prospect who can help now, but turner looks like a prime player at a critical position. Odd that Tampa just didn't take on Turner. I guess they really like Souza.
  15. He's actually a 'player to be named later'.
  16. San Diego gets: OF Wil Myers (from TB) P Gerardo Reyes (from TB) P Jose Castillo (from TB) C Ryan Hanigan (from TB) Tampa gets: C Rene Rivera (from SD) P Burch Smith (from SD) IB Jake Bauers (from SD) OF Steven Souza (from Washington) P Travis Ott (from Washington) Washington gets: P Joe Ross (from SD) SS Trea Turner (from SD as a PTBNL) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/padres-rays-nationals-agree-to-three-team-trade.html Myers is, obviously, the big fish in the trade. But SS Trea Turner (1st round pick last year out of NC State) is a good looking, polished prospect. He hit .323 in A ball in his first year. Souza is an intriguing player as well. Now 25, he was a decent prospect but reportedly had some character issues that kept him from developing. He seems to have overcome those problems and got his career on track, garnering the International League's MVP award last year when he hit .350. The acquisition of Turner may be Washington hedging their bets on losing SS Ian Desmond after next season.
  17. The first artwork is out! http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/reillymcshane/selig-experience.jpg
  18. Sounds like Souza is a key piece. He's a guy I liked. I thought that if the club did a rebuild, he would have been a nice addition - play CF for a couple of years before moving to a corner.
  19. I honestly haven't seen much of Wilson for a few years, but he was coming off TJ surgery in 2012, and missed most of 2013 because of it. His poor 2014 (and he was pretty bad) may simply getting his body and head back into the game. But as Briggs pointed out, he showed he still can bring the heat. The key is better control. With our unsettled bullpen, it might be an interesting, low-cost move to bring on Wilson. The Dodgers are paying his salary, so you're only paying him 500k. The club can bring him to camp and tell him he can battle things out, best man wins the closer job. I can't imagine many (if any) teams would want him as a closer, so a chance like Milwaukee might be a perfect opportunity. Worst case scenario Wilson sucks, in which case you cut him. Unless the team simply doesn't like the guy for some reason, it's not a bad move. Of course, a lot of other teams will probably say the same thing, so I imagine there will be competition for him. That's why an open closer position might entice him.
  20. I think that if this team tanks in the first half of 2015, you could see Gomez (and a number of other players) put on the block. But not until then. The front office sees a club that won 83 games. With improvements from Segura and Braun, plus the addition of Lind, they see a shot at the playoffs (which means a shot at the World Series). Thus, Gomez stays. Personally, I'd love to see the club make a move for a player like Walker. I just don't see them doing it at this time.
  21. Deal is for $18M over two years, plus incentives.
  22. I don't even know what the Diamond Dancers are. Perhaps they can perform at the Bug Selig Experience.
  23. Actually seems really light. I thought he'd be getting at least $10M. Last year he got $6M coming off a terrible year. Weird. Makes me think there are a lot incentives - or the number is misreported.
  24. Gregorio had 1 walk in 100 plate appearances last year. He would team nicely with Herrera, who had 3 walks on 140 plate appearances.
  25. Last year, Morse was coming off a pretty awful season. I guess I can't blame a club for being wary of a slow, poor fielding 32-year old player coming off a .651 OPS and a variety of injuries. Not that the alternative (Reynolds and Overbay) was such a great idea.
