  1. One thing about Dozier is that he had a deep knee bruise for the entire season. Now, perhaps he's really just digressed as a player, but it has been suggested that it really affected him last year. If so, he could end up being a bargain if he can rebound. I personally did not see him play much last season, so I don't know what to think about him. But Milwaukee would offer him a great opportunity on a one year deal. 2B would be his for the year. He has a solid lineup around him. And a playoff caliber team. And a park that's generally considered pretty hitter friendly. He could come in, do well, rebuild some value, and still get another decent contract.
  2. Kikuchi has signed with Seattle. Go to the Major League forum for discussion. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37987&view=unread#unread
  3. Japanese left hander Yusei Kikuchi has signed with the Seattle Mariners. Details are still coming, but it appears to be three years with a player option. But the Mariners appears to be able to replace the player option with an additional four year guarantee, thus securing seven years of team control for Seattle. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/mariners-appear-nearing-deal-free-agent-yusei-kikuchi-rumors.html
  4. Amazing to see Lucroy in this position. If he had hit FA after 2016 (when he hit .292 with 24 HR), he could have gotten $15M or more for 3-5 years. Instead he's settling for one year contracts for 1/3 or less of that. I'm not shocked at the decline. It happens to catchers. I'm just a bit shocked at how quick his game deteriorated. At 32, he's unlikely to get any better. I imagine he'll be able to play for at least a few more years, but his bad 2017 and 2018 cost him tens of millions.
  5. Hiura is really important because right now he appears as the one position player in the upper levels of our system that could be an all star level player. We traded for one all-star (Yelich), signed another (Cain), and picked up a couple of guys that are pretty darn good bats (Shaw and Aguilar). All those were awesome moves - and I expect us to try and add other good players. But it's going to be really hard to add another all-star level guy short of spending big or trading away a lot of really good young players. We just don't have those kinds of assets and/or can't sustain the long term viability of the team if sell out in those ways. Thus, developing some all-star level players is really critical to this team improving. I think Hiura can be that kind of player - just not sure when and how far he can reach. But it will be fun.
  6. Way too little. Correct. Too little.
  7. I don't want to speak for everyone else, but i think it's mostly because he doesn't strike out(like most of the current crew), and he can hit for a high average. Nevermind, he probably won't hit more than 10-15 HR's ever at the major league level. He will probably get on base a lot, which is useful for sure, but that's about all it is...useful. If he doesn't hit for much power(which is likely), or ever drive in 100+ runs(consistently), then he's a good, not great prospect...which is what I think he is. Useful, yes, above average...yes. Elite?? I seriously doubt it, but that is what most here seem to think that's what he will be. I agree with this. He’s going to hit but idk if he’ll ever be elite. Maybe left handed DJ Lemahieu without the GG defense? That has value but probably tops out in the 4 win area and settles in more in the 2-3 win annually range and not elite 6-7+ area that it seems some think. Many scouts and analysts think he will be elite. From Eric Longenhagen and Kiley McDaniel at Fangraphs. This is an incredible hitter. He has lightning-quick hands that square up premium velocity and possesses a rare blend of power and bat control. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-32-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/ The guy is not perfect. He's streaky, and is a bit too aggressive at times. But his hit tool is exceptional. And the other thing that some scouts say is that there is a lot more power lurking in Hiura's profile.
  8. So, at what point would you jump into the bidding for Keuchel? Just wondering what people think would be our threshold. MLB Trade Rumors and Fangraphs each predicted Keuchel would get a (roughly) 4-year, $80M contract. What do you think would be a price (in years and dollars) that Milwaukee would do to add Keuchel? Just curious what people think.
  9. Former Brewer reliever Joakim Soria will join the Oakland A's on a 2-year deal worth $15M. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/athletics-nearing-deal-joakim-soria.html
  10. Will play 1B for Rockies. 2 years and $24M. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/rockies-sign-daniel-murphy.html
  11. Nice contract for Sanchez. 2-years, $19M - plus incentives and an option - is pretty good for a guy who was terrible from 2015-17 - and almost 35 years old. Granted, he had a nice 2018, so maybe the rebound is real. You never know. I see the market for starting pitching is slowly being eaten up. Outside of Kuechel, there aren't any premium arms left. The second tier of guys (Lynn, Sanchez, Harvey, Cahill) is going for roughly $10M or so a season. Many are signed now. I expect Gio Gonzalez to get similar money to these guys. Miley, Holland and Pomeranz are probably next. Maybe not quite as much as the above guys - but close. Unless we make a bigger splash (like a trade for Kluber), I'm guessing we get one of these four. All are lefties. All will likely be had for one or two years. That will fit our budget.
  12. The Yankees posturing about Machado is probably all be part of their game to soften Manny's demands. Many believe that NY is his preferred destination. Thus, the Yankees feign concern/dis-interest and hope it gives them a bit of leverage in their negotiations with him. Or it is a way to force Machado to publicly (or maybe just privately) address the things that have been hung around his neck. They want to force Machado to say he'll hustle his butt off. And he'll cut out the stupid, petty things like kicking players. In the end, he's a really, really good player and the Yankees will put aside their concerns if they want him.
  13. There is some speculation that Tulowitzski wants to play on the west coast - as he's from the Bay area. His agent even said that location would be a factor. The A's would be a fit if they don't bring back Lowrie. I've read some links to the Giants as well - but that doesn't seem as likely as they have Panik, Crawford and Longoria in the infield. Of course, he could displace Panik or be a super sub. But the other reason not to go the SF is they will likely be bad. Doubt Tulo wants to play super sub on a losing team.
  14. Tulo would be fascinating. Even if he could hit .250 with 20 HR and provide solid defense, he's golden due to costing you next to nothing. That allows you to put your money in other areas of need, such as catcher or the starting rotation or whatever. That's all a big 'if' - but it's interesting.
  15. I hope Moustakas signs elsewhere. He's a solid hitter, but we've really got his position (3B) covered for a few years (and cheaper) with Shaw. I also don't like Moustakas' body/build - he looks like the kind of guy who could age very quickly. He's not an asset on the bases, and he's only going to get worse. He doesn't walk that much to begin with, and I could see him really having problems if he loses a half step and/or a bit of bat speed. His body sort of reminds me of Todd Frazier. Frazier had a good power bat and was a good fielder, but really has struggled since he turned 30. But at least Frazier walks a lot. I could see Moose becoming a .220 hitter with some power - but little else. However, I certainly won't freak if Moustakas resigns. I'm sure the front office has a better feel for the guy's skills than someone like myself. And in the end, if we can limit the years and dollars, it could be a good deal. But we shall see.
  16. This seems like a pretty big overpay.
  17. One year, $11M. Can earn $3M in incentives. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/angels-sign-matt-harvey.html
  18. I read that the A's made an offer to Lucroy - one year and around $5M. He turned it down. Not sure how accurate the info was.
  19. Dude made a typo. He admitted it. And I think it was pretty obvious it was a typo even from the start - especially if you add up the money totals - which you did. Then raking him because because his 'something like $40M' actually adds up to $41M? I don't get it.
  20. Fangraphs has him at 3/$45M - if that helps. I agree he'd be a really nice addition. Combine him with Manny, and you have a really, really good tandem. Figure you give Grandal 2/3 of the starts - Manny gets the other 1/3. You keep each of them fresh, which is probably best for the club. Still, $13-14M a year isn't cheap. I wonder if the Crew is waiting to see if the price drops. This has happened with players who have draft pick comp attached to them. Someone will swoop in sooner or later and get the guy.
  21. Sure there are, but how many of them are really good - a significant upgrade on what a team already has as their starter? Exactly. Lots of catchers doesn't mean good catchers. Looking at Fangraphs, last year there were only 24 catchers in all of baseball to put up a WAR of 1.0 or better. Only 12 guys had a WAR over 2.0 or higher. Only three guys had a WAR over 3.0. There are lot of below average catchers in this league. That's why getting one of the good catchers (or a couple of average ones) is so valuable. Realmuto had a 4.8 WAR last year. Pina and Kratz had a 1.2 WAR combined. Realmuto and a backup improve the team by four wins. Even having two solid platoon guys is really valuable. The Braves had Tyler Flowers and Kurt Suzuki last year - 3.2 WAR total. Again, two full wins above our catchers. The free agent market for catchers is really getting tapped out of decent players. Only Grandal is left of the guys who had a WAR of 1.0 or above (Ramos, Suzuki, and Chirinos have signed). Even the trade market is getting tapped (Gomes and Zunino), leaving Realmuto and Cervelli as the two guys rumored to be available. If we want someone very mediocre - there's a ton of options. Young guys, veterans, defense first guys, offensive minded -- all of these guys are available. Just don't expect anyone who is well rounded (outside of Grandal, Realmuto and Cervelli).
  22. As someone who is a little older than many of you (I'm 54), the one thing I will advise is to start saving as soon as you can. As soon as you enter the workforce, just set up a way to sock away a percentage of your income. Do it so it comes right out of your paycheck so you never see the money. Due to circumstances, my wife and I didn't start saving until later (around 30), and it forced us to do catchup on investing later in life. A little more discipline earlier would have made a big difference. Luckily, we do well now and I am happy with where we are heading in our saving and investing. But start saving early. It really helps.
  23. Interesting. I think it further demonstrates that the team wants a left hander in the rotation.
  24. Some people say that Counsel will start Perez because he loves him. Perhaps. But I'd argue that Perez would have started very few games last year if: - Arcia had hit better - Shaw had hit better against left handers - Villar had hit better - Schoop had hit better - Santana had hit better - Broxton had hit better - Braun had not been on the DL twice last year - Yelich had not been the DL once last year - Cain had not been on the DL once last year - Dubon had not been hurt most of the year (he would have taken over for Arcia) I'd argue that all of our failing and injured bats got Perez into the lineup more than because of CC's love for him. It was a matter of necessity. I think Counsel appreciates what Perez does, and isn't afraid to use him. But his playing time would have been far less if Santana and Arcia and Shaw had hit more like 2017 than 2018. No one really wants Perez to play, but if guys start sucking or get hurt, he's been the one who steps in. It's not always pretty, but he's there, and does an adequate job (for the most part). I don't doubt that Perez would have gotten his ABs last year if things had gone better - but he wouldn't have started 80 games (which is what he started last season). Ideally, he'd only start half that amount (mostly against lefties).
