  1. Our current situation is..........that we dont have any MLB ready pitchers in AAA now (partly because the brewers havent drafted them). You mentioned giving Burns, Cody, and Dillard a shot. Bailey is a bust? I guess the Reds should release him cause he only has success against AAA batters. If their pitching staff looked like ours, you can bet hed get the call over the retreads in Nashville.
  2. I guess I'd call up Homer Bailey, give him another shot. He's been pretty good in AAA. Oh, wait., we didnt pick the consensus best HS arm, we thought "out of the box" and went for Mark Rogers.
  3. Um ok. I, like everyone else was moved by this story,,,,,,,and yes, i feel for her and the family. buuuuut: Didnt anyone else finish this article and ask the big question. What is going to change in baseball? Is she waiting for Mike or God to make whatever it is clear?? Does she have an idea? (and isnt telling us?) Will bat boys not sit outside of the dugouts? Will more netting be installed in all stadiums? Will different equipment be worn by MLB players?
  4. You have to get there early, or you wont have anywhere to sit. Really a bad set-up.
  5. "saying that Parra continues to disappoint doesn't seem fair." It does to me. Last year, his first full season, he was 79th of 88 "qualifying" pitchers in WHIP (tied with Suppan).
  6. They start the month 13-3, but finish 17-11 (including 7/1)
  7. think maybe their "run off" into the dugout was for the cardinals benefit....because of all the complaining in Stl???
  8. The "you know" tally for the year really took a hit when Rickie went down.
  9. Wow, I wonder if they will play Pie and Gathright in the same feared lineup!
  10. Why didnt the Astro's use a starting pitcher if they were planning on bunting here.
  11. I know this thread isnt intended to be a debate, but so many have checked in in support of the Iceman, I feel I have state my opinion which is just the opposite. I find him an annoying distraction. I want to watch the game at Miller Park. Not listen to him loudly engage his customers in random stupid banter thats really not in the least bit funny, especially after the thousandth time youve heard the schtick. Hes like the annoying drunk standing in the way that trys to get everyone to do the wave. "Wooooooooooo!" repeat "Wooooo" Wow, now that's entertainment at the old ball park! NOT. Dude, get out my way and sell beer to the bleacher idiots that arent watching the game. This was the first time in 12 years that Ive seen him at maryvalle (or chandler) and I was hoping he had retired and was going to stay in AZ.
  12. I dont like that he had the runners moving with out in Saturdays game.....with fielder going from 2nd to 3rd, and 2 strikes on Cameron. Cameron strikes out (like he does often) and Prince is no where near 3rd, so he retreats to 2nd and gets tagged out. Double play, inning over.
  13. Bruce: Absolutely not. That would be taking a loss to save the pen. He "kept us close" here, but wasnt pitching multiple clean innings. I hope Macha pulls him everytime he gives up 6.
  14. Im really tired of Doug Melvin and others talking about Rickie scoring 89 runs. As if hitting .227 with an on base percentage of .319 against right handed pitchers (the majority) is acceptable. 49 Major league hitters scored more runs than 89 runs. Of course someone who got on base at a rate higher than .319 vs RHP would have scored more than 89 runs. If Ricky did a great job, we wouldnt all be wondering if/when Rickie will reached his much hyped potential.
  15. I wondered about Paul Molitor's 1984 season after his earlier cocaine used was discovered.
  16. Looking at Roberts' stats for the past 2 years, the deal would have looked bad even if it was two years and not three. Looking at old JS articles from that offseason, I read that Melvin was interested in Juan Pierre too.
  17. Dave Roberts has been released by the Giants. Remember when Doug Melvin was trying to sign this guy. Why was Melvin and the Giants seemingly the only ones that didnt see this coming? (That Roberts wasnt going to be worth the money) Im a big Melvin supporter, but wow, was he wrong about this guy. Thanks Giants. Maybe Melvin will still want him as an extra OF? (The price is better now)
  18. Taylor really hurt his wrist playin the USA vs. Canada game at the Riverside Theatres Uecker's warm up!

  25. Not sure what this accomplishes other than giving teams with small payrolls a chance to get into one round of the playoffs. The teams with all the money would still dominate. I would like MLB to add 2 teams. One in New Jersey and a National league team in Boston (with a state of the art new stadium). Yankees, Mets and Red Sox (three of the big spenders) Owners dont like it that they have to share revenue from massive TV revenue and population bases with the "have nots", give those localities more teams.......like kind of a teams per capital formula. Maybe splitting the market might cut in to the wealth and bring them back to reality.
