  1. Called the Brewers Fan Zone today asking if they still had Bierbrauer shirts/jerseys left (was told they sold them at the game on Sunday). They only have a couple jerseys left, and do not plan on ordering anymore because it was a one-time deal. I am highly disappointed in the Brewers for not exploiting the high demand there is for this design. They could make a mint off of sales of these shirts.
  2. I'm actually pretty good with my in-laws. Most of my family complaining that I do in the "Bugging You" thread is about my own family. I just see my in-laws way too much.
  3. I may save this for a "Bugging You" post someday.
  4. I skipped the card. Was the only one of about 10 people who did. Do you know how many cards he even looked at? Zero. He's 3...can't read yet, and was too enthralled with his presents. His mom read the cards to him, and he didn't care. I felt vindicated. Shockingly, my critical mother said nothing (at least to my face).
  5. I'm hoping someone can shine some light on this for me. If you give someone a non-monetary birthday present, do you also get them a card? I have 2 nephews who have birthdays this weekend. Last year, I remember getting a present for one of them, but no card to go along with it. My mother was upset (she gets upset at a lot of stuff). To me, kids don't care about a card, and I don't think it's necessary to give a card when you have purchased a present. What do you guys think?
  6. I know the Brewers scored a run in the first every game during the Houston series, and again last night and tonight...did they do so on Tuesday? Even if they didn't, that's pretty impressive.
  7. I sprayed, but it only gets to the entrances. It won't get into the nest itself, so I can't kill the whole thing. In a related topic, I discovered there are at least 3 cicada killer wasp holes in my lawn. Never heard of them? They are wasps that are about 2 inches long. They build burrows in the lawn, then hunt cicadas and bury them in the holes. They like dry lawns, and my lawn is perfect (haven't mowed in over 3 weeks due to a very dry July).
  8. Wasps and hornets. I have a 2 story house, and I have 2 nests in places I cannot reach with the ladders I have. One is at the top of my chimney. They got into an opening where the siding and the top of the chimney meet. Then I have a nest in my soffit on the tall side the house that is highest off the ground. I hope those hornets are not making their way into my attic.
  9. Quick question for the computer guys... I get 15Mbps internet from Charter. I connect my laptop and blu-ray player to a wireless router. I have been noticing that the videos I stream, especially on my computer, are pretty low in quality (it's most noticeable when I watch sports on ESPN 3 on the internet). So I did a speed test on a couple different websites, including Charter's. I am getting between 2-3Mbps on my laptop. I can't test the blu-ray player, but I'm sure it's similar. I connected the computer directly to the modem, and I got 15Mbps. My question...can I increase the speed I get on my computer and blu-ray player by simply upgrading my router? Or do I need to upgrade my wireless card in my computer as well? My router is fairly old...3-4 years old. It can broadcast both b and g signals (if that is the proper terminology), but my wireless can receive a, b, and g. If updating the router is the solution, what type of router do I need to get faster speeds on my laptop?
  10. To think how close we really were to sweeping the series... If only Furcal would have gotten hurt... I'll take 2/3 from the Cards any time, and the 3.5 game lead is fantastic. Now, just take care of business against Houston's AAAA team, and all will be well.
  11. Perhaps I should have been a little more clear. My grandmother e-mailed me the other day asking if I had any way to get tickets to the UW-Nebraska game for her friend...who is a Nebraska fan. Also, a friend of mine, every year, asks if I have any way to get tickets. He always says, "well, you live down there, so I figured you would know how to get tickets a lot easier than I would." I don't go calling my buddy in Green Bay for Packer tickets, just because he lives there. There is this magic website called StubHub...go there to buy them.
  12. Since I live in Madison and am a UW grad, apparently, I can get tickets to whatever football game I want to at face value...including the UW-Nebraska game.
  13. My 98 year-old grandmother-in-law keeps a Brewers schedule in the top drawer of her end table. She watches every game.
  14. We had something fall off the top shelf of our closet the other night. Our house sure shook last night, too. Couldn't believe some of the rainfall totals in the far SW corner of the state. Many places over 10 inches in 24 hours. I think the highest total was 13 inches.
  15. I pay for 8 Mbps, but have been getting only 2. Time to call Charter.
  16. A teacher I will be working with next year wants to get together to plan. She asked when would be a good time to get together. Me: Afternoons. My wife is working half days and I have to take care of my daughter in the mornings. I don't want to bring her with. Her: How about we meet tomorrow morning at 9:00.
  17. And the heat index is still 102 degrees at 10:15 PM. Crazy...
  18. Thanks to a hail storm, I get a new roof on my house. I was talking to a friend of mine about it, and he mentioned that his dad went with a metal roof instead of a traditional asphalt shingle roof (yes, he lives in WI). This got me thinking about a different option for our house. I did some research...and while metal roofs seem nice, I am still a bit skeptical. I can't tell how much more/less they cost, how they deal with expansion and contraction during different seasons, and how good they look on houses. My question to BF.net...does anyone have a metal roof on their house, or can anyone tell me if they are any good? I like options, but sometimes it makes it hard to make a decision.
  19. As I was on my roof cleaning my gutters today, the Google Street View car drove through my neighborhood. When the maps are updated, I will be seen on top of my house.
  20. I'm not sure if there is anything to this theory, but my hypothesis sort of makes some sense... Because Wisconsin is in a climate where we only get to golf for 7 months or less, golf courses need to try to maximize their revenue. In order to do so, they squeeze as many golfers on to courses as they can. I think the golf course I worked at had tee times 8 minutes apart. I have seen some that were 7. When you get that many golfers onto the course at once, you are bound to slow down. Factor in all the once-a-year golfers, and you get your 5 hour round. If tee times were 10 minutes apart, it would get some extra space between groups, speeding up play, but reducing the number of groups that can go in a day.
  21. I have thought about this a few times (I was sitting in the front row of the bleachers during the series where Bonds was sitting at 599* home runs, and he hit a very long out right at me...a few more feet, I would have had it). I think in nearly every situation, I would just ask for an autograph, photo op, some merchandise and probably some tickets or something. If that Bonds ball went a little further, I would have held it hostage for as long as I could have to see how much I could get for it. There aren't many other players I would do that to, though.
  22. I found a pretty stupid flaw with my Netflix instant view. I watch Netflix on my TV through my Blu Ray player. When Netflix consolidated all seasons of a show under one selection, my player limits the series to 100 episodes. So for many seasons of shows, I can only pick the first 2 shows of a season. If I want to watch the other shows, I have to either watch them on my computer or play the episode for 5 seconds on my computer to get it to show up on my TV. It's sort of annoying.
  23. I got a call from a principal in the district who wants to interview me for an open position (for a job I don't want...I'm happy at my current position). He left me a voicemail, but he said his name and school so fast, I couldn't understand him. So when I call back, I don't know who to ask for if he doesn't answer the phone.
  24. I shared the same thought with my wife. Since 2001, all four of their teams have won at least one championship (NE-3, Sox-2, Celtics-1 (lost 1), Bruins-1). In my lifetime, a favorite sports team of mine has one twice... Back to the series...it was highly entertaining, again. Tim Thomas was fantastic, Roberto Luongo was pretty terrible in 4 games, and Gary Bettman may be the most hated person in all of sports.
  25. What I can't get over is how much of a different goalie Luongo is at home vs. on the road. It's like he has no interest in playing in Boston, or he knows he cannot win there. He is sure a headcase. I'm actually expecting another 1-0 game tonight...that's the way this series has gone.
