  1. I'll give some 30 Rock love! I'll watch The Office just because I have since it started. I'm really looking forward to Modern Family. I loved that show last year and am hoping it continues where it left off. My wife got into Community. It's a "meh" show for me.
  2. I really like roundabouts. I like how traffic keeps moving...never waiting for a stoplight. I'm probably in the minority, but the more you drive through them, the easier it becomes and the more you appreciate not having a stoplight.
  3. I am cable-less, and stream Netflix and Hulu all the time. I don't want to pay for MLB TV, so I don't get Brewer games. The biggest things I miss is Badger games and Monday night Packer games.
  4. I have 37 freshmen in one of my classes. That is a lot of freshmen.
  5. I think it's odd that they are moving an April day game to a night game. Aren't most April games played under a closed roof to begin with?
  6. If you are at a restaurant that has as many people waiting as there are sitting at tables, please be kind and vacate your table once your bill is paid. Those of us who are waiting for a table would kindly appreciate it if you could continue your conversation in the parking lot.
  7. I checked, and there are a couple companies. Looks like it's $35-37/person. I remember doing this once and it was pretty cool.
  8. We are headed down tomorrow for a couple of days. Staying downtown and planning on doing a lot of walking. My wife wants to hit up the Art Institute and I want to go to the Museum of Science and Industry. The Field Museum, Alder Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium are all right together, and they are all really neat places to go.
  9. Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon The Beatles- Abbey Road
  10. That whole post was awesome! After listening to the talk radio guys and reading the news today, the only thing that should have been done was the PGA officials should have directed the marshals to push the crowd back and out of the bunker. People should not have been that close (even if he was just in rough), and people should not have been lined up on both sides of him the way they were. Other than that, the right call was made.
  11. I'm starting to get annoyed with all the Whistling Straits bashing that is going on right now. I've heard a few people (reporters, players) suggest that they need to get rid of some of the sand on the course, and a couple have even gone so far as to question whether the course is worthy of another major. This course is a perfect major course...it's long and highly rewards accuracy and punishes you when you are not in the fairway. That being said, the official/marshals should have cleared the spectators a bit more, and probably should have cleared them out of the bunker as well. I also wonder why he didn't play a safer first shot. He didn't need birdie...just par. I'm not suggesting that he should have taken a 3 wood off the tee and laid up on his second, but he didn't need to hit 350 off the tee.
  12. I wonder how many other times this week other players were in the exact same position and nothing was called. I think the PGA rules official that was walking with the group should have told him it was a penalty the minute he grounded his club.
  13. Not at all. I've been to Cedar Point twice since the last time I've been to Great America. It is fantastic. Go for 2 days, and you'll hit every ride multiple times.
  14. I'm headed to my parent's house in Port Washington later today, and I won't be taking the interstate. These storms are crawling.
  15. No, you cannot bring cell phones in with you. Any electronic device that can make a noise or distract the golfers cannot be brought in. I totally missed the grandstand part in the spectator guide. I knew there was a section that was reserved. I don't remember that many grandstands in 2004.
  16. We sat behind the green on the hole we picked, and it sloped up. We actually sat in a pot bunker that was out of play. We had our own little stools, but you can bring in you own small folding chair (it has to be able to fold up into a bag). You cannot sit in the grandstand unless you have a grandstand ticket. No chairs are provided. Here are a couple links for you... Chair Policy Spectator Guide If I remember correctly, you can take a bag (like a backpack or something) in with you as well. You are allowed to bring in your own water, but if it's not Aquafina, you have to remove the label. Leave your camera at home and leave your cell phone in the car. If you have golf shoes, I'd wear those as well.
  17. We went in 2004 and will be there again this year. Last time, we picked a hole and stayed there until the leaders came through (we were on the front 9), then walked the course. Walking the course was difficult because you don't get good views at all. Get there early (I believe the first tee times are around 7:30 Saturday) and you should be able to find a spot.
  18. If do either #1 or #2, you may end up doing #4, so I guess that would be #6. If you do #2, you may be murdered (game is in Iowa City), so #3 would change from "mock" to "real". I say rent a cabin near Green Bay, and try to get Packer tickets. That way, you get a whole weekend of celebration. 3 of my top 5 weekends of all-time have been at a cabin, so I highly recommend going that route. Also, you must do 30 beers for 30 years (over the weekend).
  19. I've also been thinking about what every good bar should have. I'm not a hard alcohol drinker...I stick to beer. When I go to a bar, I expect to have the macrobrews on tap, maybe a cheap beer (PBR, Schlitz), and a couple higher end beers. It depends on what the bar is going for. My favorite bar has about 10 beers on tap, and they range from Old Style to Hacker-Pschorr Weiss. Pitchers of Miller Lite are $6-7. To me it's just as much price as it is selection. The selection can be fantastic, but if a Miller Lite is $3.50, that's a little steep (especially in bottles). I expect to pay more for better beer, of course. There are only a couple of places where the atmosphere trumps the cost (Memorial Union Terrace is one). If a bar is too expensive, I just won't go. It's one of the reasons why I really don't go to the Great Dane anymore...I'm not spending $5.50/pint for a beer, no matter how good it is.
  20. Are cars purchased at suburban Chicago car dealers required to have a frame around the plate with the dealer's name on it?
  21. If you look at who plays summer ball, its a lot of teams from the Milwaukee area (not all, though). My high school played summer ball, and my guess it's because everyone around them did. I am thinking it is more of a conference thing than an individual school thing. If Port decided they wanted to play spring ball, there would be no schools near them to compete with because everyone else plays summer as well.
  22. He just said the same thing...the tornadic threat has diminished. We'll see about that.... It really surprised me when the sirens went off. I didn't think that would happen today, especially where the storms were when they went off the first time. I was just driving, and the roads were pretty insane. I'm very glad to be home. I talked to my mom and she said that Milwaukee had 7 inches of rain in 2 hours. That's nuts.
  23. On inland lakes, yes. The lakes around Madison are terrible, and it is mostly due to runoff from fertilizer. In Lake Michigan, I'm sure they make the problem worse, but the algae growth is mainly from the water being so much clearer and light penetrating deeper to allow for more algae to grow.
  24. The lake smells due to algae. With all of the muscles (zebra and quagga) in the lake filtering the water, algae grows much thicker and deeper because sun penetrates deeper into the water. It dies or detaches from the bottom, floats to the surface and decomposes, which creates the terrible smell. That being said...I grew up in Port Washington, and it all depended on the year. There were some summers where you couldn't be anywhere near the lake (or you had to be out far enough from shore on the breakwater) due to the smell. However, quite often the beach was fine, but there were a lot of weeds. (The beach is North of downtown Port, just past the water treatment plant...below Upper Lake Park). When we wanted a great beach day, we always went up to either Harrington Beach or Kohler-Andre State Parks.
  25. Yeah, I just checked places west, and Prairie du Chien is 91 with a dew point of 82. Yikes! By comparison, New Orleans has a temp of 89 and a dew point of 74. This is pretty crazy.
