  1. I had thought something similar. I was thinking he has been hearing the rumors of a move to Florida for spring training, and thought people were talking about the team moving down there permanently.
  2. You can't look at the quality of the show (which is subjective)...you have to look at the ratings (which is objective). Even if you think Idol is horrible, the numbers don't lie...people watch it. There have been some fantastic shows that got zero ratings, so they were canceled. No one is watching NBC right now, even if people think they have good programming.
  3. Combined, the Rays and Marlins only had 200K more fans than the Brewers did last year. Weren't the Brewers one of the rare teams to turn a profit over the past few years as well? Clearly...these are all reasons for Mark A. to sell the team. I actually e-mailed this reporter to point out all of the reasons why the Brewers won't be going anywhere soon.
  4. It was on channel 3 tonight. I thought last night's game was one of the best games I have seen in a long, long time. Tonight's was almost the same, only we came a way with a W. Huge weekend!
  5. NCIS is the highest rated show on TV, and it's on CBS. Desperate Housewives is also very high, and it's on ABC. Two and a Half Men is the highest rated sitcom, and it's on CBS. Even if you think reality TV is not really TV (and I'm one who much prefers scripted TV, especially sitcoms), it's been here and is here to stay. Look how well Survivor has done over the years. Dancing with the Stars is one of the highest rated TV shows as well. I did omit the Biggest Loser, which is on NBC....but they are still trailing in the ratings big time.
  6. NBC has given up both Letterman and Conan for Leno. That's a lot of talent to give up for a guy who's best routine is reading newspaper headlines (I'm not a Leno fan, obviously...and never have been). I think this whole thing has really brought NBC's overall problems to the forefront. It's the one network that really hasn't had a true reality TV hit (The Apprentice really isn't much of a hit, not compared to DWTS, the Bachelor, Idol, Survivor, the Amazing Race). Other networks saved money by producing these shows, NBC chose to go with Leno during prime time, instead. Since Seinfeld ended, NBC has been in a steady decline, and it's had no answers. Yeah, they've had hit shows here and there, but they haven't been able to keep up with the other networks.
  7. You can manually manage your music on the iPod. When you have the iPod connected, select it on iTunes, and check the "Manually manage music and videos" box. If you download a song or an app, you will have to manually put it on the iPod by selecting the song in the list and dragging it to the iPod.
  8. It could be a combination of a few factors. 1) Bo Ryan instills the attitude of, "go .500 on the road, take care of your business at home", though I'd argue most coaches do that. 2) The mentality of the opposing team. They could come in knowing it's a tough place to play, and they let it get to their head. 3) The record could be skewed a bit by the 3-4 seasons Wisconsin was winning/competing for the Big 10 title. Those were some really good teams, and had high winning percentages even on the road. UW foes will say there is a big home-court advantage with refs, but I will dispute that.
  9. I keep seeing commercials about this. I don't think the FCC would ever allow this. Free television is a matter of public safety. TV and radio are by far and away the quickest way to spread emergency information, such as weather warnings and other vital news. Yes, there could (and would) still be free local TV, but there would have to be some sort of emergency protocol if this would ever happen.
  10. I went and bought an HDTV tonight, and it was $25 less than it was last weekend. That did not bug me at all.
  11. They keep upping the predicted amount for Madison. At first it was 1-3, then 3-5, then 4-6, now 6-8.
  12. I'm a little surprised that with a snow storm coming in tonight and tomorrow, no one has commented. I'm glad it's cold enough to keep the rain and ice away. Will Milwaukee actually get the amount of snow they are saying? I used to live north of Milwaukee, and know not to take lake effect snow forecasts seriously. It's never as bad as other lake effect areas (Cleveland, Buffalo).
  13. The Slumberland New Year's sale commercials with the babies. I can't stand the song.
  14. If I remember, a very similar thing happened right after Christmas last year. I know we wanted to take my nephew sledding, but it rained quite a bit. I hope we still have some snow left over, because I now live close to a sledding hill, and that will make some interesting fun come New Year's. What are the odds that this thing tracks a bit East/West of it's current forecasted path? I know this happens quite a bit with winter storms.
  15. We have a short distance...just to Monroe...but I'm keeping an eye on this. It's looking like driving in icy stuff either on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. If I had to choose, I'd rather drive when it's light outside.
  16. I love how there is an NFL player with the last name of Incognito.
  17. It's probably because of Facebook's new thing where they have the Live Feed and News Feed. News feed only shows those posts that you think are most interesting. Your posts may never appear on your friends' news feeds, therefore they never know you post them.
  18. My hatred of Marquette came when I moved from Madison (where I went to UW) to Milwaukee (where I then attended UWM). I actually cheered for MU when they didn't play the Badgers, until I moved to Milwaukee. I met a lot of people who were MU fans that lit into me when they found out I was a UW grad. This was also during the period of time where UWM was really good, and MU refused to play UWM (even though both teams had an open game on their schedule at one point...MU refused). I actually felt MU fans were extremely arrogant and were just flat out mean to me.
  19. To continue on Burnie's comment (and to de-clutter the winter weather thread from us complaining about Madison's streets)... I love all of the yarns that the Madison governmental people are spinning. First off, they wanted to keep plowing instead of switching some to salters. Why can't they do both? Then it was too cold. Well, then how did the county and other municipalities put salt on their roads? I take highway 113 out of Madison towards Waunakee on my way home, and 113 was clear once I got out of the city. It was even dry in some places. Highway M was salted, as were the roads in Middleton. Why can't Madison salt? Then they talk about environmental reasons. I know Madison uses less salt on side streets because it hurts the lake. Fine. What about the main streets? University Avenue and East Washington should be the absolute first roads cleared in Madison, yet things were so bad on E. Wash, that a semi jack knifed this morning, closing the road. Now they are complaining about how much it is going to cost. Wow...what next?
  20. I have heard the streets people say they had to choose between plowing all of the roads or salting the main roads. How come they can't do both? Other towns do both. The county did a fine job getting the interstate and beltline cleared up, so there is no reason why the main roads in Madison can't be clear. Yes, it was cold today...but I walked on a sidewalk that had salt thrown down on it, and it melted! What a concept! It took a coworker of mine an hour and 45 minutes to get to school today (Middleton to the East Side), took me an hour to get home, and took my wife 2 and a half hours to get home on the bus (the driver was running 2 hours behind). I nearly spun out just getting through an intersection. People can't get up hills because they are shear ice. I have never seen such a pathetic attempt to get the streets clear. Yes, this was a big storm, but this is Wisconsin! Big storms happen all the time! So now I have to leave home an hour early tomorrow, just so I can try to be on time. Sure, not a big deal...but I drive on that wonderful ice again.
  21. My snow blower broke while clearing the end of the driveway. A weld on the auger broke, so now I'm going to have to shovel by hand. I did get most of the driveway done, though, which helped.
  22. Looks like the Madison area picked up 15-17 inches as of this AM. I looked outside, and there is a LOT of snow.
  23. Well, Madison schools are closed, so no work for me or my wife tomorrow!
  24. Madison schools haven't announced yet, and they won't for a while...probably tomorrow AM. If UW canceled this early, I don't know why the schools won't. My wife now has a day off, though.
  25. This is what I did, and it worked fine... http://reviews.cnet.com/transfer-ipod-songs/
