Went to the driving range today, along with half the city. I love the way the snow is melting...slow, steady, and with minimal mess. -
Apparently there was a scheduling snafu at the Mariucci Arena. They scheduled something for Saturday without taking into consideration that the Gophers played at home that Saturday.

Great series this weekend! Houghton was great, and 2 nice wins. I was a tad nervous after the 1st period on Friday night. We had a ridiculous amount of shots on goal. 64 and 52 (or something like that). I missed Geoffrion, though.

It is, but if a base runner runs when the coach tells him to, even under stupid circumstances, it's kind of on the runner as well. In situations like that, however, most people trust their coaches, just like the skater did.

I told my wife that was like the 3rd base coach sending the runner home when the shortstop has the ball...only it's in Game 7 of the World Series.

Gov. Dodge, Kohler-Andre (not sure about backpacking sites, though), big vote for the Kettle Moraine Northern unit (they have backpacking sites along the Ice Age trail), High Cliff... I've camped at all of them, and all are fairly nice. -

Worst.Game.Ever. They looked incredibly flat, very sloppy, and didn't look like the same team we've seen lately. They missed a lot of chances, too. They'd better bounce back tomorrow night.

Eaves has to go with Gudmandson from here on out. He needs to have a goalie established for the tournaments. I think Bennett is still getting time because both will be on the team next year as well.

Then you shouldn't like the hockey tournament! I may be in the minority, but I would like to see professional athletes removed from Olympic competition. I'd much rather see a bunch of college players go play instead of pros (like the 1980 "Miracle On Ice" team). No other sport in the Olympics allows pros, so why should hockey and basketball be any different?

The men's alpine event was postponed today due to poor conditions at Whistler. They were saying this was a bad year for snow out there. If they keep having poor conditions, how are they going to get the events in?

This was briefly talked about on LambeauLeap, but it encompasses so much more than just college football (and not many people will be taking the Leap now that football is over), so let's talk about it here. So the Big Ten wants to expand to 12 teams (and have heard rumors they may not even stop there). Today, there was a report on Madison.com about the Big Ten possibly courting Texas. Link to story The rumors didn't originate in WI, or in Big Ten country, rather from Kansas. I'm not sure what to think about Texas. It would be great for athletics and they would more than fit the academic mold, but man...if we're tired of OSU winning the Big Ten every year, just imagine how we'd feel about Texas. Plus, it would be a pain for non-revenue teams.

Tonight, I saw someone wearing a t-shirt that I would love to have. It was a player jersey t-shirt, but was a Polish sausage shirt. It was red, with the Brewers script across the front, with "Polish" and #2 on the back, and was made by Majestic. Has anyone seen these for sale anywhere? I'd prefer the Brat, but may get my wife the Polish.

We had a real cheap wedding, but we had ours at the UW Memorial Union, and it is very inexpensive to rent space there for Union members. Still, costs could have soared, but we kept them down. Here are a few tips... 1) Flowers are expensive. Cut back on them as much as you can. 2) Go with "cheap" beer (Miller Lite) 3) Invitations are just pieces of paper. Your fiance may care how they look, but most people who get them really won't care how much you spent on them. 4) Get something cheap for favors. We gave each guest only one Lindor truffle. No one cared. 5) a. Ask a lot of questions to potential photographers. Do you get the proofs? Do you get the pictures after a year? b. Don't buy a wedding album from your photographer. If you get a CD of all your pictures, make your own album. You can get them for under $100 (vs. $1000 from the photographers 6) Don't get a limo or other transportation for your wedding party. 7) Be aware of all of the extra charges your reception hall will have, and determine what ones you think are necessary and which are not. Is it worth an extra $0.50/guest for a second salad dressing choice? 8) Sometimes, getting sheet cakes can be cheaper than a fancy wedding cake. 9) No open bar. We did free beer and soda, cash everything else (please, do free beer and soda, though).

I'm bringing this thread back to the top because my wife and I are going to Hawaii at the end of March. We are only spending 1 night in Honolulu, and 5 nights on the Big Island. We're spending 2 nights in Kona, 2 near Hilo, then back to Kona for one night. We're going to Volcano National Park (which is the main reason I wanted to go to the Big Island), but wanted to know if anyone else who has been there has any "must sees" on the Big Island.

We had an absolute BLAST at the game. It didn't look like UW played that well at all, but they still came away with a big W. We all got really annoyed with Michigan's goalie asking for maintenance around the goal the whole game. Oh well...

My guess is that the 1-8 seeds would not have a first round game. They would play the winners of the first round. I guess technically, there could be a game lower than 1/16...if all of the 17-24 seeds win that first round game. I guess I would have no problem with adding 3 teams, so every region has a play-in game, but 96 is too over the top.

I heard this on the radio today, and have read it on a couple of blogs...Apparently, the NCAA is considering expanding the men's BB tournament. The report says that the tournament could be expended to either 68 or 96 teams. If it would go to 96, it would mean the end of the NIT. They say the NCAA can get out of it's current deal with CBS, so it is shopping for a deal, which may include more than one network. Link to Blog Personally, 68 makes sense, but not 96. It would reduce the importance of the regular season, and would make tournament appearances less meaningful.

I think law enforcement agencies are supposed to give cars a little leeway when it comes to speeding. Some speedometers are off by a couple MPH. My old car was fast by 3 MPH. What if a car gets pulled over for going 28 when their speedometer says they are going 25?

Apparently, Dawson will go into the HOF as an Expo. He had said that he wanted to go in as a Cub. Is this the HOF's decision, and not the players? I always thought it was the player's decision as to which team he wanted to be associated with. -
Nope, but I'm not shocked. I'm still thinking he heard the spring training rumor and misunderstood that as being a permanent move.
