  1. One side of my house is pretty tall...20 ft from ground to gutter. I currently don't own a ladder tall enough to get me up to clean the gutters and downspouts. To clean the gutters on that side of the house, I built this gutter cleaning apparatus out of PVC pipe. Worked great...until it got stuck in the opening to the downspout. Now I have to figure out a way to get the thing down out of the gutter. That is bugging me. What I will probably will do is hop on my garage, pull a step ladder up, then climb on the high part of the roof. I just need someone to help hold the ladder. I hope I don't die...
  2. I thought it was odd that the sirens went off, too. As soon as I heard them, I turned on the TV and went to Weather.gov...and nothing. 45 minutes later, the TV breaks in saying there were numerous reports of funnel clouds and a possible touchdown in Madison, but no warnings were issued (people got pictures of what clearly were funnel clouds). The NWS said they did not issue a warning because the conditions were not favorable for tornado development. It may have been the case, but there were definitely funnel clouds. It would have been nice for the TV people to have come on and said something.
  3. What a great Game 2. Lots of great hitting, great saves by both goalies...fun to watch. I think what made it so fun to watch was listening to the crowd. There were times where you couldn't hear the announcers. I would love the Hawks to win the Cup at home...that would be insane.
  4. I heard the same thing when I was listening to the radio, and thought a pitching change was going to be made when people started cheering so loudly. What I want to know is how is keeping him on the roster helping the team? As has been well discussed so far, we are probably only keeping him because of his salary. That money is gone anyways. If cutting him and eating his salary means the team does better, then do it.
  5. The zoo is nice, and free (you pay for parking...at least that's the way it was 4 years ago). The arch is worth going to, I thought.
  6. Someone wrote a book about how to incorporate "The Simpsons" into the classroom. Brilliant idea.

  8. Our school is facing some staffing cuts due to decreased enrollments. There were three of us that had the same hire date, and 2 positions to fill. On Monday, a lottery was held to determine who would fill those positions. The odd-man out would get reassigned to another school within the district (Madison). I was one of the two who won the lottery. Well, today, they came to us with the notice that our position was eliminated! On Monday it was congratulations. On Friday, sorry, we screwed up on our numbers, so you won't be here.
  9. I have seen 747s fly into MKE before, but it has been when O'Hare has terrible weather and flights got rerouted.
  10. I went to Brewers.com today, and there was a story that said, "Make Weeks, Braun, and Fielder All-Stars". All-Star voting is already open, and we're 2 weeks into the season! A little early, I think.
  11. Every Friday after work, I go to a bar with a bunch of guys for happy hour. The bar we go to had a sweet happy hour. They had $1.50 taps and free wings/Gardettos. Well, they changed ownership, and the sweet happy hour is gone. Gone are the wings and Gardettos, and the beer is now more expensive. The place used to be packed by 5:00, and this past Friday it was very, very empty. I wonder how long until the new owner realizes they will lose money by cutting the free/cheap stuff.
  12. BC just flat out wanted it more. They beat us to the puck every time, blocked tons of shots, forced turnovers....they played the game we normally try to play. Tough loss. I feel so bad for the team. After going to 14 games this year, I got to know the personality of the team, and that didn't look like the team I normally saw during the season. Next year will be tough, so it's more of a bummer they couldn't have played better tonight.
  13. Geoffrion wins the Hobey Baker!!!!
  14. Looks like Miami and Michigan went into OT. If Miami loses, the road to the championship gets easier!
  15. Another free idea... CHKYHX Too bad 7 letters aren't an option, because CHKYHAX would be much better.
  16. My laptop was doing the same thing (only with XP, and I have a Dell). I got an external hard drive, saved everything to it, and reformatted. It takes some time to get your programs back and everything updated again, but it was well worth it.
  17. I'm a teacher in Madison, and they are facing some pretty nasty budget issues. There are 4 different plans out there to help fix it. There is only one plan that eliminates teachers, and that is the "worst case scenario." Well, principals are ordered to prepare for the "worst case scenario", so 14 of us at my school got notices that we won't be teaching there next year. However, the only reason why we would lose our jobs is if the school board elects to go with the plan that has the most cuts (which pretty much everyone says is highly unlikely). Well, I'm still getting nervous, even though most say I will still have a job next year. The unknown is what is bugging me. I would love a yes or a no so I can move on if I have to.
  18. Yeah, I was not too thrilled when I saw they had St. Cloud in their bracket...not to mention that if they meet in the Regional Final, it's in St. Paul, which will be a home game for St. Cloud.
  19. At least all of our snow is melted already. I'm not really worried about a few inches of snow. Many inches of snow would be bad. It should all melt pretty quick.
  20. When I read the title of this thread, the "by Milton Bradley" part reminded me of a game where the Brewers were playing Milton Bradley's team du jour, and Ueck said something along the lines of, "Milton Bradly, isn't that some board game maker?" Sorry for the side bar. Carry on.
  21. My car. Since January '09, it's been in the shop 5 times. Twice for cooling system problems, once for a starter, and twice for suspension problems. This latest one is a killer...most of my front suspension is shot (things really broke apart today), and I'm lucky I could still steer the car to the mechanic. I should get a new car, but I've put enough money into this one, I might as well drive it longer now.
  22. The jeans are made with a bit extra room in that area, hence the name.
  23. I was thinking about this when it was uber-foggy at noon, then disappeared by 1:00 today... When the temperature gets above the dew point. Because it's melting so fast, there is a ton of moisture in the air, and the dew point is hanging around in the low 40s. Earlier today, the sun peaked out enough to warm up the air to a few degrees above the dew point, but the areas just above the snow were cooled by the snow and remained foggy. As Hawing said, once the snow is gone, or fog is gone...or until the air warms up a bit and/or the wind blows a bit more.
  24. I have never seen a baseball game that counts outside of Milwaukee. I have never seen Titanic or Avatar, and don't plan to. I have never seen or read a Harry Potter movie/book. I have never watched Entourage.
