  1. Relax and enjoy the season. Players will decide our fate...not the manager. Oh, the manager is included in our fate. CC has done an outstanding job, don't get me wrong....but his brain and heart are a large part of this engine moving forward. Those are not excluded. And his butt is on the line.
  2. Not that impressive.... played with fire early and gave up multiple long balls.
  3. Nelson could be our right handed version of Hader....
  4. http://www.thesportsbank.net/the-bank/doug-melvins-wacky-pitching-experiment-deserves-mlb-consideration/ Melvin's idea, actually.... funny how these "new" analytical bullpen ideas were from the "old" regime.
  5. I prefer Sogard as a veteran bat/glove off the bench. He usually gives a better at bat, a more patient approach, a better defender, a smarter base runner, and more of a contact hitter as a pinch hitter than Villar. As a role player, Sogard plays the role better IMO. On a team filled with K's, he has k'd at a much lower rate over the last season and a half. He also got on base better than almost anyone on the team last season, something a HR driven team looks for. Sogard hasn't played well this season granted, and others deserved- and got- a shot to play over him. If he continues to struggle late into the season, he should and will be replaced. Villar, on the other hand, played badly with the club an entire season in 2017, mainly in the leadoff spot. Hypocritical Villar whiners should be grateful that CC gives extra chances to guys with MLB experience because without it Villar wouldn't even be on this team in 2018.
  6. Aside from one guy who said they would take Sogard over Villar and pretty much everyone disagreed with him, does anyone really trash Villar anymore? Winning run last night? Do you really think that anyone is going to change their opinion and want Sogard starting over Villar based on one single AB? Not trying to change opinions.... just giving another reason why I feel mine is correct.

  8. Sogard was sent down. He didn't get a pass. He's back because of Arcia's bat and frankly poor approach, swinging wildly, and lack of pitches seen per AB. I would have liked to see Orf up instead, however, just to see what he can do. I could do away with about any of 3 guys on the 40 man to do this. The Villar of 2017 played waaaaaaay too much, at LEADOFF nonetheless. If he simply isn't on the team last season, the Brewers are in the playoffs. CC waited until Sept. to bench him fully. Villar was given and is given more rope to merely be on the team than any other player on the Brewers and it isn't even close. What makes him an easy target are his mental errors, questionable D, and strikeout tendency-making him a poor pinch hitting candidate with late inning pitching.
  9. I like Sogard but this is beyond true..... if results aren't taken seriously at AAA, just get rid of the poor sap.
  10. Happy days are hear again! Even if Saladino is starting, Sogard will prove to be a good pinch hitter against late inning relievers. Better yet, start him at 2B. Funny stuff...
  11. Is this for real, or are you just trying to get a rise out of the board? I'll stand by it. Villar had a miserable first four months of 2017 and many said it was early, stay with him, yadda yadda. Sogard, a guy that did have a .380 OBP. last season, struggles and gets demoted in May. I agree with the demotion, but still prefer Sogard's skill set in the short term for this team. We have enough K's on this team, we really don't need more lack of contact from 2B. I'll also take a more reliable glove at 2B too. I hope Villar continues to do well, improve, etc... Glad to see the new guy doing well at 2B too.
  12. I'd rather be a millionaire but .... Really. Better glove, better plate discipline, makes better contact, better team guy, better base runner..... I realize that I have very little to stand on with Sogard hitting horribly this year; I can't complain about Sogard getting sent down- it was deserved. Yet, remember CC was terrible times two in the first half of 2011 and RR stuck with him. I have hopes that Sogard will be back midsummer with a better bat when a middle infielder gets hurt or slumps.
  13. Similar to Shaw, Aguilar has to prove it all year. He did well the first half of last year in limited playing time but then struggled pretty bad the second half. He never was given first base. Let's all remember that. Platoon player or guy off the bench has been the label given him from the get go. Most even questioned if he would make the team this season although he was one of our top hitters in 2017 (and again this season). He hit well last year AND this year with very, very inconsistent playing time. Not until Thames has been hurt has Aguilar had regular playing time. The only one who has held back Aguilar has been CC. Just let the guy play. No reason why he shouldn't be moved off first base so Thames (or Braun for that matter) can get 60 to 70 percent of the 1B at bats...... better with JA getting those at bats until he proves that he's not Pujols.
  14. I'll still take Sogard over Villar. I hope Sogard can get back to where he was hitting last year... lots of confidence with a good eye. Villar is doing well right now....hope he keeps it up. We'll see about Saladino.... the dude is playing well.
  15. We are winning without playing well in all phases....
  16. Villar has been given more rope than anybody in the league. He was in the lead-off spot for most of 2017 even with bad numbers across the board. When Sogard heated up, they even found ways to even get his bat in the line-up in CF. He has been given many chances this year, as well. Whether in the field, on the bases, or at the plate..... he hasn't been the answer. Then again, there has been no answer in house, unless you count the .380 AAA 2B who apparently doesn't deserve a chance....
  17. Just saw a WAR formula that used CS, not unforced outs on bases, however. I noticed that there are several ways to calculate WAR (not meaning all the variations like fWAR, rWAR, or WARP). Is there a common/usual way that MLB calculates it?
  18. https://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/ Still can't find where WAR includes unforced outs on the bases or CS. Enlighten me.
  19. WAR doesn't factor in the amount of times thrown out on the bases (SB or unforced), does it? According to a quick google search, it does. https://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/ Baserunning runs are included in the formula..... not special negative values for outs on the bases that kill rallies, end innings, etc.... I guess it's indirectly used. If the guy isn't on base, he can't be batted in for a run.
  20. Orf and Wren are two players that have the deck stacked against them. Wren wins the gold because he has been a fairly good hitting outfielder and has like 6 or 7 guys ahead of him, even though he hit last season, in spring training, and this season thus far at AAA. He likely never makes the club no matter what..... REGARDLESS of what he does on the field. Orf gets the silver because for as good as he has been, that is how bad our second basemen have been this season. When seemingly the choice is getting more and more obvious to bring him up, they find ways to overlook him bringing up Franklin on Tuesday and probably another retread on Wednesday not named Orf. A better name might help his chances.... I'll give Aguilar the bronze because his at bats still seem limited with Braun playing more 1B now that Thames is hurt. Just let the man play.
  21. I mean 4 WAR...pretty darn good I would say. We all probably have a different definition for the word though. WAR doesn't factor in the amount of times thrown out on the bases (SB or unforced), does it?
