  1. The Brewers will announce their minor league pitcher and hitter for 2009 soon. I thought it would be fun to see who you would select. Pitcher - Evan Anundsen Hitter - Caleb Gindl Strong competition from Anundsen's teammate Amaury Rivas. Anundsen allowed fewer home runs, really, the only difference in their lines. Also, Anundsen had the early season no hitter. Both Cody Scarpetta and Wily Peralta had very strong seasons. With better offense behind them, their win totals would be much higher. Also special recognition to John Axford on starting the season in Brevard County and is finishing it in Milwaukee. Again, strong competition from Logan Schafer and Alcides Escobar. Slightly higher OPS for Gindl. Plus playing in a "pitchers" league for Gindl against a more hitter friendly PCL for Escobar.
  2. Helena game now officially "suspended". Dangerous lightning and a light tower that is out. Game to be complete on 9/8.
  3. Helena under way after a 35 minute rain delay. Interesting 1st inning. 2 throwing errors for Cameron Garfield, but they get through the inning without giving up any runs. Edit: And there will be a "lightning delay" before the start of the 2nd inning.
  4. Maybe he gets bumped up when Brett Lawrie leaves for Team Canada?
  5. According to the TRattler broadcast, Lasker at 78 pitches through 6.
  6. Rain delaying the Pioneer League debuts of Max Walla and Del Howell. They are hoping to get under way by 8:30 CST.
  7. My opinion is that Rivas will be added to the 40 man this off season. Great to see him perform as well as he has. One reason they have been slow with him was the season he lost in 2007 to a torn ulnar collateral ligament and had "Tommy John Surgery". Still, he's only 23 (will turn 24 in December) so there is plenty of time ahead for him. Link to Rivas article.
  8. I'm in. Thanks for keeping this site up and running!
  9. I'd rather watch the Brewers lose than the Packers do anything. Good thing hockey starts in October so there is a sport to watch during the winter.
  10. Jim Callis is reporting the signing bonus for Gennett was $260,000. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=1682
  11. Zach Braddock is not eligible until 2010. Same situation as Lorenzo Cain last year. John Axford I believe is eligible having been released previously by a different organization.
  12. Initially I read somewhere (probably here) that Iribarren was the other call up.
  13. Too Late. Tampa signed him. James Houser is available though now. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AivN8oVxVN5ixguLGoOS9agRvLYF?slug=ap-rays-bennett&prov=ap&type=lgns
  14. The trade for DeRosa is now complete as the Indians acquired Jess Todd from the Cardinals. Todd was the closer in AAA Memphis. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090726&content_id=6077742&vkey=trade2009&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  15. After reading that, I want Doug Davis back even more!! In August of 2005 I saw JJ Hardy at the Jewel-Osco (Now Pick N Save) on National and Sunny Slope in New Berlin. It was early evening after a day game. I was walking in and getting a cart when I saw him walk in behind me. I recognized that I knew him, but I couldn't think of who it was. I just blurted out "JJ!" and he turned and said "Yeah". And I was like "Hey". He smiled and continued on. I went on shopping and watched other shoppers recognize him as well.
  16. So there has been 4 weeks of the Pioneer League season, and we have 3 Helena Brewers as pitchers of the week. Nice. Real Nice.
  17. Nic Bucci ("The Babyfaced Assassin" per Steve Wendt) continues his string of strong performances. 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts. Helena up 7-0 in the 7th.
  18. I was thinking this exact same thing. Both Ramos and Edwin Linares have pitched in 19 games. Considering there is still 30 games left to go in the season I really hope they are both used a little more sparingly going forward. Both have shown promise and it would be nice to get them stateside with their arms still in tact.
  19. Jose Romero making the start tonight for the AZ Brew. 1st inning 3 run homer for Sean Halton. Early 3-0 lead for the Brewers.
  20. Alex Periad the starter for Brevard County tonight. Rough 1st inning after 2 outs. Clearwater Bottom 1st Javis Diaz grounds out, second baseman Eric Farris to first baseman Chris Errecart. Fidel Hernandez reaches on throwing error by shortstop Brent Brewer. With Steve Susdorf batting, Fidel Hernandez caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Martin Maldonado to shortstop Brent Brewer. Steve Susdorf doubles (5) on a fly ball to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Tim Kennelly doubles (27) on a line drive to center fielder Logan Schafer. Steve Susdorf scores. Matthew Rizzotti doubles (13) on a fly ball to right fielder Caleb Gindl. Tim Kennelly scores. Michael Durant doubles (15) on a line drive to left fielder Steffan Wilson. Matthew Rizzotti scores. Cody Overbeck reaches on throwing error by second baseman Eric Farris. Michael Durant scores. Cody Overbeck to 2nd. Derrick Mitchell flies out to left fielder Steffan Wilson.
  21. Helena under way. Bottom of the 3rd. Helena up 3-0. The storms that passed through knocked out power in the area. I believe that they also lost the tarp that was covering the field. I caught the game in the middle of what Steve Wendt was talking about and that is what I believe I heard.
  22. Johnny Raburn with a lead off triple for Nashville in the bottom of the 6th.
  23. Chad Stang making his 1st appearance tonight in Helena, starting in center field. 2 run triple in the 7th inning from Hitanial Arias to tie the game 4-4.
  24. 1-2-3 first inning for Eric Arnett. All 3 outs strike outs! Scott Krieger with his 6th homer on the season. Helena with the early 2-0 lead.
  25. Just like the title says. D-backs starting to make moves. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/articles/2009/07/07/20090707spt-dbaxpena.html?source=nletter-sports
