I was hoping to be wake up to news that something had been done in regards to Bill Hall. I think it is clear that this is not going to get any better. It will be difficult but it is time to make that decision.

Well the Crew is actually on TV tonight since I live in MN. Unfortunately, this almost certainly means they will lose. They prefer to torture me by losing whenever I actually get to watch them.

At what point does finishing the season at .400 become relevant? Through 43 games and 160 ab's he is at .425. He is hitting over .500 at home. I believe I heard he will officially qualify for the batting title, ab wise, around the end of July. I'm curious on what the prevailing opinion on "baby Jesus" is. (edit: more explicative topic title --1992)

Exactly. The system, in the case of Japan, is so disproportionately in favor of the big markets that it is laughable. I mean, if Daisuke got 50million I can only wonder what Yu Darvish will go for. 70,80,100 million? -

I know there was a big to do earlier this year in Japan when a high school kid, maybe college, chose to forgo the Japanese draft and come to the US. They old boys club that runs baseball was very concerned on what that could do to NPB and was trying to ban him from ever playing in Japan. I am not sure how that all worked out but I believe he did come here. edit The player is Junichi Tazawa. It looks like he signed with Red Sox despite better offers. He is in AA. Good ideas... One more question for you all...the deep dish pizza. Neither of us has never really had a proper deep dish pizza outside of a trip to Pizzeria Uno downtown Chicago years ago. Any thoughts on where we should go? looks like there is a Gino's East and a Lou Malnatis near were we are staying.

My wife and I are going to be in Chicago the weekend of the 4th. We have some stuff that we are going to around to do but dont really have any plans on the 4th. Neither of us is too familiar with Chicago since we arent from the area but I have heard of this and thought it may be interesting. Any thoughts? Is this a good time or I am likely to get annoyed? Is there something else anyone would reccomend? We will be staying in Arlington Heights but will have a car. .

I would think realistically it would be more like the Marlins having the southern part of Florida, the Rays in the middle, and the Braves taking the panhandle, probably. Also, why does the Marlins "territory" dip into Georgia? That seems odd. Realistically, I think Marlins territory would extend about 5 ft outside of Land Shark stadium.

If anyone is interested in Japanese baseball I found a nice two part series on Trey Hillman's time in Japan. It talks about the success he had there and also provides an insight into the differences between baseball and yakyu(Japanese baseball). Articles are a bit long but the writer has written some great books/articles on Japanese baseball. It's not for everyone but I thought I would throw it out there. Open Mind Key to Hillman's Success Hillman relied on intensity... Also, a couple other articles/series about MLB's effect on Japan and Sadahra Oh. Robert Whitting
