  1. I would also add taking the elevator when going up 1 or 2 floors.
  2. Definitely an interesting tangent.
  3. Here is an article with some info on Yu and the Japanese team. Unfortunately, this article contains no menacing remarks by Ichiro towards the Koreans.http://search.japantimes....cgi-bin/sp20090224jc.html
  4. Since some HR people may be reading this...question for you I am looking to apply for a new position within my company, a large company. I will be applying through our online system. Would you still expect a cover letter?
  5. Anybody catch that Ben was reading Ulysses on the plane? I know a bit about the book...a guy returns, leader....etc Anybody out there know the book really well and notice some correlations?
  6. Sitting in an office surrounded by my Japanese co-workers during the WBC provided, perhaps, the most joy I've ever had watching sports. Silently relishing as the Koreans fauht back and watching my co-workers anguish and criticize every move was delightful. The office cleaning lady was offering up strategy for Sadahara Oh. And when Korea won again in dramatic fashion? I swear I saw tears. The country was seriously questioning their world standing. Baseball is very important in Japan and to lose, to the Koreans of all people, just added fuel. Good day indeed! Throw on the terrible call in the US-Japan game and the degree that the American ump was vilified. I love this tournament! Ichiro now says we want to beat Korea so bad they won't want to play us for 100yrs. Oh...the drama. I just hope we can watch the Tokyo round here!
  7. Alright Cory thank you very much...... This doesn't work for me. I don't like the sound of that. We should have went with another Jim.
  8. If only there was some sort of magic pill that could help him prolong his career and strength.
  9. I heard he survives. Pure speculation though.
  10. I used to have this highly technologically advanced car. Naturally, this piece of junk broke down when I was a long way from home putting me in a rather large fix. Well the only person I could find to help was this old man that "claimed" he knew a lot about technology. So I go on to explain that since this is highly advanced it needs about 1.21 gigawatt's to run properly. This old man goes on to freak out. Acting like I AM the crazy one for suggesting this much power. Man, he was sooo stupid.
  11. Karaoke(kay...not key) rocks in Japan.....not so much here. You get your own private room with an encyclopedia of songs...a button that brings the waitress when you need them and, typically, all you can drink booze for 2hrs.
  12. Mongol Awesome movie about the early life of Genghis Kahn. I highly recommend this.....my lack of credibility not withstanding...you should take my recommendation as gold!
  13. I pimped this guy a number of times but two books by Robert Whitting that are wonderful You Gotta Have Wa-----about Americans going to Japan in 80s/90s... The Meaning of Ichiro Not just about Ichiro but chapters on all the players that have come to the US Nomo--Matsui and Bobb Vs time in Japan Both are excellent books.
  14. Sadly Branyan went to Seattle when he could have went to Rakuten.
  15. Mench would have the biggest head in a league filled with woolly mammoths!
  16. Do you also like kicking babies?
  17. Someone should mock the fact that they are one of the most dangerous cities in the America and therefor the world.
  18. I'll add my experience to this. I was a part-time casual during the summers while I was in college. I made really good money but also worked 6 days a week 50hrs. The job is much harder than most people think it is. As a youngster with no seniority I was given one route per day, always different, along with bits off of others to cover for people that were off. Typically, you will never be near a driving route and will get the most difficult, ie largest, routes. I also did collections after my routes..driving to various blue boxes and getting mail to the distribution center. I have a great deal of respect for the guys that do it. As far a a full time carrier....knowing a bunch and having family members that were I can say right now they are working guys extremely hard. There is mandatory overtime for pretty much everyone. Taking vacation is extremely difficult and they dont get that many holidays, despite what people think. Currently, they are receiving a lot of pressure and are not hiring nearly enough people. Most of that is due to increasing costs and the mandate that they cannot make a profit. You also have to remember that you have a 6 day work week with a rotating day off. Its great when you have a Saturday followed by a Monday but not so great when it is Wednesday and you work Saturday. I would also add that typically the communication between mgmt and the carriers is atrocious with a great deal of resentment on the carriers part. Again, I have great respect for the guys and the institution. The post office is amazingly efficient and puts Fed Ex/UPS to shame when it comes to error less delivery. However, it is a tough life.
  19. Will Ueck be doing radio games or is there some national broadcast that usurps his right to call the game?
  20. That was awesome! Why was I not smart enought to turn on the radio during the game instead of listening to WGN?
  21. where did you find it?
