  1. Prince isn't going anywhere until after 2011 unless the Brewers choose for him to go somewhere else. I think the whole 'Prince not signing an extension' thing got overblown a month ago or so (whenever it happened), and that has caused all sorts of talk show hosts and whatnot to say wierd things like that Prince will be gone at the end of this year. I'm not too worried personally, as when we had to trade Sexson, we managed to get a quite acceptable firstbaseman to tide us over for two years until Prince was ready to take on the full time job. On the other hand, I do understand wanting to find out more about some of the young guys we haven't heard as much about.
  2. I dunno, I just looked up some of these guys, and Gallagher looks to be about one (maybe one and a half) steps below Gallardo in comparison. They are about the same age, with Gallardo having a better year last year (and his 2 starts this year) than Gallegher had the last year and this year. Basically, how would you all have felt if we gave up Manny Parra (again, better than gallagher, but not running away) as the centerpiece for Sabathia?
  3. FYI, the location he is talking about is about 4 miles farther east than I am. In fact, that is downtown appleton, and would bump your drive to New London up over 30 minutes easy.
  4. I have heard people call him Big Ben though. I have a better idea I'm working on now though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Hopefully I get up for work with enough time to check it out. If not, I won't be able to read it until later evening. /sigh
  6. Wouldn't it be the Triple S Express? Sheets, Sabathia, and Suppan? (Ok... maybe not)
  7. The apartments I live in are called Evergreen Squares Apartments, and are pretty nice for a decent price. Would be right about at the 20 minute mark for you though (maybe a touch over). About 1 mile east of highway 41, just off of college ave.
  8. Good Call craig. Too bad they probably wouldn't take Turnbow in the deal too, just to save a bit of cash, as I'm thinking the chances of him helping the Brewers the rest of his contract (which ends this year, right?) is pretty low. agent39, are you going to be able to blog about this trade going down (what the experience of calming a bunch of rabid brewer fans and holding off annying media personnel is like) in the next week or so? (I checked out your blog, it's pretty nice.)
  9. I don't think Sheets would laugh at a 4 year 80 mil offer. I figure that's probably about right on a per year basis for the market. Just some other teams will likely offer that over more years (which is more guaranteed money). Of course, the market may skyrocket again this offseason (and probably will) leaving us thinking that 30 mil per year for sheets would be pretty cheap... *edit* Also, of the two, I'd choose Sheets to resign because he would be cheaper than Sabathia (though still expensive) and because... I <3 Sheets.
  10. Perhaps they wanted a couple AAA guys even if they're mediocre as they are going to have to backfill CC's spot from their own AAA team?
  11. Is it possible that the man may actually enjoy the baseball season more through the use of statitiscal analysis? (I know, I'm turning into a staunch rluzinski supporter, but hey... it's a lot easier to do that than Ned Yost and I've loved reading his posts over the past 4+ years that I've been lurking here).
  12. First, other than playing the game itself and watching it live, stats have got to be the funnest thing about baseball there is. No other sport has as great a set of (rapidly expanding) statistics, that actually mean a little something. A rotation of 5 McClungs versus 5 Sabathias would probably win 3 games per 10 and be a lot cheaper. So, for a team on the cheap (read brewers '04 and earlier), they do do that. I'd bet that Rluz thinks this is a pretty big move too. From what I've read about the stats, a 2-3 win boost over half a season is pretty impressive for one player. (I may be off on that though. I'm not an expert)
  13. I don't think I've ever seen Russ claim that any of his statistical projections are definitive. Personally, I think a 2-3 win improvement is a pretty reasonable projection over half a season, and I'm quite excited to have it.
  14. I'm not really sure exactly where the brewers are for payroll at the moment, but half a year of C.C. Sabathia would be ~5.5 million dollars. I could see that needing Attanasio's approval, depending on how close the payroll is to the budgeted limit. *Since I said something on topic: Agent39, can I get you to represent me to my softball team? I'm trying to raise my contract from having to pay in $10 a year!
  15. I made a shirt to celebrate the C.C. Sabathia trade. The text is the same as my signature below. (I have it marked up only a dollar until I can do some print testing at school where the printers are better than my laser jet. If it looks alright on that as well I'll be bumping it up one more dollar). *edit: Does everyone recognize B.B. equals Big Ben?
  16. In honor of this trade, I've made my first brewerfan.net signature ever... (if I did it right). *edit*(I did! I did!)
  17. As Bob Uecker and Jim Powell would say.... "Nice. Reeeaaal Nice." What's that Cubs BB? What are they saying down there?
  18. Maybe the Brewers should pick him up for Nashville too. He can't be worse than Jeff Weaver I suppose, and I don't see Doug Melvin as the type to go on swearing a blue streak. That'd be more Yost's line, so some people might get a gleeful moment if Ned and Shawn ended up going at it sometime later in the season.
  19. Well, it helped Bush a bit, perhaps, but he was still getting lit up some when he came back up wasn't he? It really hasn't helped Turnbow, and didn't help Jeff Weaver. I think the magic water does more for hitters than pitchers (see Branyan).
  20. Obviously choking someone isn't the proper response to being cussed at, but I could easily believe the part about the GM ranting/cussing at him. He should've held his response to extending a certain dgit and walking away though.
  21. If he's willing to come back and pitch in AAA for us as insurance against a) injury OR b) Bush or Seth reverting to early this year or prior career norms respectively, I'd be all for it.
  22. Wasn't it a Houston sportwriter who said our clubhouse had attitude problems? I'd say he should look in the mirror, but then he might try and choke me...
  23. because there are a lot of rookie pitchers in the history of baseball who have come up to have outstanding success and then have their careers spin into the depths of despicability is one reason. That said, if a guy is head and shoulders above everyone else, they do deserve it regardless of service time. But, if two players are close, the veteran should get the nod over the rookie.
  24. On the brewers site there is a little blurb in one of the articles about him having a sore hand. I don't think they mention when his hand became sore, but I'd guess the diving attempt.
