  1. I personally think that the word 'boo' should be on the FCC list. I think there's Brewer's 'fans' who would boo at their own child if they made an error in little league. I think a lot of 'fans' are mentally weak. The Brewers just went four months straight with just one or maybe it was two seperate bad weeks (under .500 weeks). And now, though the timing isn't great, they have a bad two weeks and people are downright angry about it? I don't get people who would get downright angry and obnoxious over this. If it's a matter of 'I paid my money and they lost!' etc., well then, don't pay, and don't go. It's cheaper to sit at home and watch it on TV and you can boo all you want, and they don't even stop serving beer after the 7th inning. Of course, if you do that, your S.O. may just get ticked at you for being drunk and obnoxious and beat you up.
  2. I don't think Gagne has been near terrible enough this year to warrant no team signing him next year. I can pretty much guarantee he's not getting 10 mil again though. @Svuem- Didn't Mike Adams leave the Brewers after the '05 season? If you were trying to use people from last year's team perhaps you were thinking of Matt Wise?
  3. RK TEAM GP W L ERA Sv CG SHO IP H ER R BB SO BAA 11 Milwaukee 130 24 20 3.86 43 0 0 389.1 365 167 189 180 316 .248 19 Milwaukee 159 23 32 4.15 49 0 0 511.1 493 236 276 200 477 .252 That's 2008, then 2007 Brewers. I'd agree that 22 million is more than the Brewers should spend on a yearly basis for the bullpen, It also would be nice to get a top 8 or better ranking out of that much cash. However, though somewhat dissappointing in light of the price tag, the Brewer's bullpen has been improved to date over last year. Although, one could argue that's because the starters have pitched more innings this year, saving the BP some wear and tear.
  4. I sleep on the couch in the living room where it's cooler on occasion myself. But, I'm 100% single. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Wow. That was actually pretty good local sports journalism.
  6. That was the most boring video I have ever watched.
  7. He probably did gain weight (like 90+% sure), but c'mon. I don't think we really need to continually make exxagerated claims like '50 lbs heavier'. I'm not saying that specifically to the OP alone, but many posters who make the observations of weight gain seem to think that throwing out ridiculous numbers will make their case more compelling.
  8. I didn't see any mention of this in the first five pages, but he has already been DFA'd by the Yankees per mlb.com.
  9. I think the biggest problem (and this is from experience playing only amateur slowpitch softball), is that it is darn near impossible for fielders to see the ball when it's raining. Obviously, pro ball has lights, but that might not make a whole lot of difference. After all, us wisconsinites know not to switch to high beams in a downpour or blizzard, because all you'll do is wreck your vision with all the reflected light.
  10. As a kid Yount and Molitor definitely had it over any packers, but I have always been more of a baseball person than a football person. (And if we don't limit to players, Uecker has gotta be up there in the top 10 of sports celebs in state).
  11. Mota wasn't called up from AAA, and he pitched decent to well to start the season before going on a somewhat extended slump which he seems to be out of now. As far as the reason for the Gabe Gross trade, wasn't he traded to clear a 25/40 man roster spot when Cameron came back as well as to give him a shot at more playing time than he would be able to get as a Brewer? Regarding Balfour vs. McClung, sure the success he's had this year makes Grant a guy who would've been desirable in our bullpen this year, but he really hasn't got starter capability from a stamina standpoint it seems, since he hasn't had a shot at starting in quite awhile. Therefore, with a bit less statistic success (WHIP, ERA, K/BB, etc.), McClung I think has actually been more valuable due to his ability to go into the rotation if needed. Really, is 1.50 era for 30 innings worth more than 120 of 4ish? I'd tend to think that the amount of innings brings that 4ish to be a bit ahead of the lower era.
  12. CC has had a hot month, and Ben, a less hot month. Sheets was a lot better in April though. I think that if we're going to get either of them, it will be Sheets, as he'll likely be a little bit cheaper having injury history over the past few years. If they can get him, that would make me feel a lot more confident about the rotation rather than putting it all on Yovanni, Parra, and Suppan.
  13. The one yesterday, I haven't been able to see a replay of. (They don't include highlights of error type plays for some reason). The one tonight... that I felt was an error when I saw it, but was tough enough that I won't crucify the scorer over calling it a hit.
  14. Hey, why bother replacing the manager when we could replace the whole team with BF.Net softball All-Stars from Madison and Milwaukee. That team'd go 150-12 no matter who was managing!
  15. According to Jim and Bob, O'Driscooll is the best, most impartial scorer in the NL. They couldn't possibly be wrong could they? Maybe we're used to other teams doing favors for the home team, so we think it's bad when there's not much of it here. As far as this play goes, everyone makes mistakes. He changed it in game as I was informed by Bob that the scorer came over between innings and asked him for a second opinion. (Bob wouldn't lie about that would he?)
  16. I'd guess between 6.7 and 6.9 (at least in that 60 yard dash). Thing is, in another running, the times may all change too, as the times are relatively well bunched together, so some would probably go up, and some go down depending on the day, the time, the orbit of Jupiter and whatnot.
  17. Link - from the article about Bill Hall's track suit on mlb.com
  18. Bork, you beat me to the Chad Moeller ref. I remember in 2005, Chad was Ben Sheets' Personal Catcher for at least the first half of the season, before the drain of having offensive black holes back to back in the 8 and 9 holes (and didn't we have some underperforming #7 hitters too? or was that '04 more than '05?) finally got him to allow Damien Miller to catch for him.
  19. I had a car going the wrong way entering the Fox River Mall from wisconsin ave up here in appleton last year. It wasn't the highway, so not as scary as I'm sure all these highway stories were. I had enough time to see that it was an elderly lady driving the car. Hopefully she isn't driving any more (and has people to take care of her).
  20. I agree that we shouldn't risk his career by rushing him back for the playoffs. IF. he is good to go according to doctors, more doctors, and other doctors, the training staff, himself, Melvin, Ned, AND his mother.... then I would be ok with him being the 'fireman' of the bullpen who would come in and work to one or two batters in jam. Though that is a bit of a high stress situation, limiting to just one or two batters would I hope prevent him from wearing on his arm even if his mechanics are slightly off. It would also use a good pitcher in the bullpen in a situation that good pitchers should be used (instead of bases empty in the ninth for the best reliever).
  21. Wasn't Royce Clayton the '03 let's give him a shot cuz we have no one to play there anyways shortstop? Then '04 was Counsell. '02 was Jose K (and a year or two before that). Those flyers seemed to work better on the bullpen than the roster.
  22. Maybe the increased tax is meant to be a protection to the public similar to the cigarette tax, due to the poor team playing there. *made blue for clarity. I agree with those above and below who say raising taxes on the tickets is just plain silly.
  23. Even what he's making the next two years, isn't that far less than what Jenkins was making? Really, if he makes an .800 ops next year at that 6.8 mil number, that's probably a decent value at third base. In spite of him being below that this year, I think .800 isn't unattainable for him in '09 (and he might get there in '08 too, if he continues hitting better). 8.4 for that starts being a bit pricey imo, but not unreasonably so. (Note: I am not saying he's a lock for that level of production, but if he does that or close to it then he is not going to be deadweight on the payroll).
  24. I would prefer Escobar and Gamel both to get time at AAA next year. Hopefully full seasons too. If Melvin does dispense with Weeks, I'd rather get a solid (i.e. better than Weeks has been this year) vet on a one year contract to bridge that gap. Since someone mentioned the Gamel possibility at 1b. I'd also prefer the Brewers wait until the offseason of 2010 to trade away Prince if possible, but that's moreso that I'm a big fan of him. At least use him all the way through next year before having Gamel take over.
