  1. http://milwaukee.brewers...._id=8879232&c_id=mil Not that it's really all that noteworthy, but this is really one of the first times a highlight of an ejection has had clear enough audio to hear word for word what both the ump and player were saying. Let's just say it is noticeable enough to be an FCC violation on Braun! I don't necessarily have a judgement either way. Braun obviously had a case that it wasn't a strike, via fox trak, but he was not exactly family friendly in arguing his case either. Ump actually let him argue longer than some would. (edit: put in direct link to video --1992)
  2. Now explain why the average GM makes peanuts compared to the average manager... I've done some searching, and was not able to find any hard date on GM salaries, other than this article which states a GM salary range of 500k to 2M. Cot's baseball contracts has a list of 2007 managers, with a range of 500k to 7.5M, but that is thrown off a lot by Joe Torre when he was with the Yankees. Putting that aside, and the range is 500k to 3.5M, suggesting the average manager salary IS more than a GM's, but not by such a margin that I would say they make peanuts compared to the average manager.
  3. The depictions of Billy Beane pulling off trades may have also made it more difficult for him to convince other GMs to go along with favorable trades as well.
  4. The Barrel Man was the logo from 1970-77, so the All Star game make sense to me, since it was held in Milwaukee that year. http://www.baseball-alman...om/asgbox/yr1975as.shtml
  5. What's interesting is that he was placed on this same list last year, for 6 weeks. I guess since he didn't get into an altercation with one of his own teammates it isn't as bad. I hope the union appeal fails though, even if it does save the cubs some money for the month that he is out.
  6. Here's the MLB.com story: http://milwaukee.brewers....ey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb He gave up 5 HR total. He hit Uggla the next AB after Uggla's HR. Then later after Chipper had homered, tried to hit him twice and was immediately ejected, and the ump was right on top of preventing yet another brawl from happening. Excellent handling by the ump, other than maybe he should've tossed Zambrano after the first pitch that nearly got Chipper. I suppose you have to give the benefit of the doubt though.
  7. There was the trademark Melvin deal, in 03-04 offseason, if you recall 'The Richie Sexson Trade'. I think Overbay and Capuano could probably still have been considered prospects at that time, though they had seen some major league action. Other than that deal it's been smaller ones that I don't really remember well, since I don't follow the farm hard core... Carlos Villenueva? I'm sure there are others as well.
  8. I'm ok with Kotsay on the bench, since he does have at least a little bit of on base skill, (not that .313 mentioned above is a good obp, it's still better than a lot of the rest of the bench, and some of the starters). He's not a huge drop off defensively in the corners from what I've seen, but I cringe every time I see him in CF, compared to the 2-3 other players we have had to play that position basically all year. The only guy on the bench with a better OBP than him is Josh Wilson, and that's only at .315. So, the rest of the bench needs to be revamped much more dramatically than his spot. That said, I do think that Roenicke has overvalued him, by evidence of his still occasionally seeing time in center, and batting 3rd or 5th when he gives Hart or Braun a breather.
  9. As a 3d artist just graduating myself, art wise, it's pretty decent. A good matching of the style. So far as the humor, some of the concepts were pretty good, but I thought the jew/fat jokes were a waste, and it would have been a lot funnier without them. I could certainly imagine prince and braun hanging in the outfield after the game talking about hitting 'moon shots' though, and from that angle it made me smile.
  10. I will preface this by saying that I don't think the Cardinals are stealing signs (at least not as a regular habit). However, wouldn't it be ironic if the Cards were the ones stealing signs, but the Brewers are so good at changing their signs around that the Cards can't do it, and can't hit without that crutch?
  11. Based on the comments of Lawrie's reaction to hitting a grand slam, and there apparently being an HBP shortly thereafter, it made me think he hit the HR, threw his bat 50 feet, punted his helmet and yelled loud enough to be heard on camera the entire time he bunny hopped around the bases. When I watched the replay, and although he pauses for a brief moment in the batters box, his reaction looks no different than many other hitters, and probably much less than some (Pujols, Prince and Braun on occasion, others). There is no helmet tossing until he is safely in the dugout, at which point I really see no way in which his reaction could be seen as showing up a pitcher or being a goon in any way. This in no way proves that he isn't some kind of jerk or whatever, but I don't think this HR can be pointed to as any deficiency in his personality. If someone did get beaned over it, then it is the opposing pitcher who was the goon in this instance.
  12. While I don't doubt this, I have failed to find a quote of this in any post game write ups, and I am not finding video or audio of any post game interview where in the Mr. LaRussa has stated these things. Do you have a link, as I'm sure I would find it to be humorous reading/viewing.
  13. If I was going to another cardinals game this year, I would strongly consider bringing big posters that say "Fastball!" "Curveball!" "Beanball!", and sitting right next to the visiting bullpen with a pair of binoculars. Of course, I'd probably get kicked out...
  14. It appears to be Jorge de la Rosa. I remember that guy! Though... I did have to right click and 'view image' to see the file name to realize who it was myself...
  15. Well, it wasn't a walk-off home run, but he did get a hit in his 46th at bat, like the clutch gamer he is!
  16. I stand corrected! Or to be completely accurate, I sit corrected. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. I buy into "Playoff experience"... IF, and ONLY IF ...the two players that could be on the roster would be identical in every other way.
  18. Regarding Tiebreaker 3, I think you may have misunderstood 'Intraleague'. Intra would mean from in the same league, i.e. the NL. If it was the record against the AL, it would be listed as 'Interleague'.
  19. If I was on the verge of the record myself, I'd want to keep going. Records were made to be broken! (I'm pretty weird though). Personally, I think Craig is just wanting to prove how clutch he is, by waiting until the fateful at bat in which he would tie the record, and hit a walk off home run. Of course, the walkoff part would be tough on the road...
  20. Not that it makes me an expert... but I've sprained both of my ankles (luckily not at the same time), most recently this year, about 6 weeks ago. Granted, I'm no professional athlete, but it did take me 3-4 weeks to be back at full strength, and mine was a lot less serious than Rickie's looked like. As an example, I walked off the field under my own power, and Rickie needed assistance. Though, that could be the trainer being smart and not letting him take any chances. Needless to say, I truly empathize with him on this injury, and wish him a speedy recovery at both the overall human level, and as a brewer fan who does not want to see a lineup with 4 sub .700 OPS guys in it...
  21. Nyjer made a diving catch in Arizona, just a few days before this: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/...id=vpp_copy_17030865&v=3 He does the exact same motion, albeit not in the direction of fans. I highly doubt he's telling Braun 'up yours'...
  22. When I hear that someone is clutch, it only makes me think, if he's so good with RISP, what kind of lazy guy is he that he can't play hard all the time, even without men on base? I'm not saying that I think Casey is lazy, just that if he really is able to 'turn it on' in these clutch situations, why doesn't he turn it on all the time and get everyone off his back? And, if it's not something he's 'turning on' then it really is mostly or all random results, like many here say about clutch.
  23. I certainly wouldn't advocate giving up on Parra yet either, in spite of his bad year last year. I was just pointing out that I saw no way that the Phillies would replace Hamels with Parra, so in a vacuum, this trade suggestion would go nowhere.
  24. I can't imagine that Philadelphia would go for this. I understand they just let Pedro Feliz go, and McGehee would likely be an upgrade at 3rd for them, but they don't seem to be the type of team that would go with a relatively unproven player at 3B, when they are trying to reach their 3rd straight World Series next year. They also have a decent catcher in Ruiz, so I can't imagine they'd go with Salome over him, though he would definitely be valuable depth, if things don't work out. Braddock would help sweeten the deal for them, but the big kicker of this proposition is that there is no way they would downgrade from Hamels to Parra, even with the other decent talent you are suggesting be included.
