Ok, someone please explain this to me, 'cause I don't get it: Clark PH's for the pitcher in the bottom of the 7th, and then Yost uses the double switch, keeping clark in the game and putting DJ in the 5-hole. So then, in the bottom of the 8th, up 1, with one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, instead of having VDW up(removed in the switch), we get to see Mark Smith who has to bat for the pitcher.... and promptly grounds into a double play. What the heck was the purpose of the double switch? No one in their right mind would rather have Smith up in that situation than Vandy....

Ask yourself this: If Jerry Coleman announced at a Padres game that the BREWERS were losers, wouldn't you be upset? Honestly no.... because there's nothing incorrect or unfair about that statement. We are losers, and have been for 11 years. OK Geno, this: Instances like this are the very reason why I cringe at some of JP's announcing. I don't expect ANY announcer to openly criticize his own organization. Preceeded by this: But as far as "balanced", that's far from accurate. When Jeff Cirillo was here, JP lauded his bat and prowess at the hot corner. But once he was no longer part of the organization with the trade to Colorado, JP in hindsight criticized his lack of speed, his range at 3rd, and said 'we need a bigger bat from 3rd base.' When Lenny Harris was brought in, JP praised him as a 'stabilizing veteran force in our clubhouse that's badly needed.' When he signed with the Cubs, JP said 'clubhouse leadership is overrated.' When Jose K and Burny were here, their staggering strikeout totals were not a problem. But once they were gone, JP pointed to a 'real need to improve that area.' Other deserving targets, such as Royster, Hammonds and Wendy escaped without a scratch. That's hardly balanced reporting. So if you don't expect anyone to criticize the organization, then wasn't this paragraph contradictory to that? But I NEVER heard him stoop to inflammatory words against another ballclub, even during the heated 1969 pennant race. I heard this part of the broadcast and didn't think it was the big deal that you're making it out to be. I took it all in fun, and that's probably how it was meant to be taken.

JP is too busy being a company tool and attacking other teams so that Brewer fans don't pick up on FACTS like the ones you just quoted Geno. Ok David, true or false: the Mets have a losing record this year? The defense rests. What about Jim's statement was incorrect? David and Geno have had some sort of a hatred for Jim Powell for as long as I recall simply because they feel he's doesn't openly criticize the organization on the air as much as they feel he should. Not sure what type of work the rest of you do, but if I openly criticized my employer for every bad move they made, I'd be fired. But they'll say 'Uecker's criticism of the team is refreshing.' Yeah, and who in the front office is going to fire Ueck? Do you guys openly criticize your employers in an arena where they can definitely hear what you said?

Thank goodness all 3 games are on TV, as those two replacements will likely be unbearable. Wayne Laravee (sp?) is an outstanding play-by-play guy, so it'll be better than you think. Bill Michaels is defintely a football-first guy, so his Brewer knowledge will probably be a bit limited (ie, don't expect a down on the farm report). It'll sure be different without Uke and Jim, but it'll be tolerable.

Wow... talk about an awful squeeze play..... yuck.

It's not a big deal really, as long as he gets to the major leagues in three years anyway. But three short words just keep haunting me: Willy Mo Pena I don't think the negatives outweigh him getting signed. Yeah, if it's a major league deal or no deal, then we've really got no choice but to accept it. HOWEVER, one other major negative: We're really going to have a problem finding space on the 40-man for all the guys that will need to go on this offseason as it is. Considering that we seem to be headed for the 1st or 3rd pick next year too, are we prepared to put ANOTHER guy on the 40-man way before we want to after the 2004 draft?

I think it's rather misleading to say we skipped all of our best prospects over A+. Nelson is there. Well, I did say out best pitching prospects.... What happens with Parra this off season will really show what the Brewers think about High Desert and the park effects. I fully expect him to be promoted directly to Huntsville. And good point Mass about Taylor renewing and not Melvin.

On another note, does Milwaukee even realize they have a team in High Desert anymore? If they realize it, would they admit to it? I sure wouldn't want to take responsibility for that mess. Ok, serious question time: Our developmental contract with HD expired after last season, and then, even though we were fully aware of the park effects, etc, we renewed it for 2 more seasons. Since then, we have skipped all of our decent/good pitching prospects over HD right to Huntsville, presumably for them to avoid the park effects/possible confidence problems and such. If we view it as such a problem, why in the heck did we RENEW THE CONTRACT? I simply can't believe that we would have been better off looking elsewhere. Were there no other options? Also, congrats to Housman. Any word on who might replace him in Beloit?

What am i missing here?? I'm certainly not an expert, but it has something to do with the release point of the ball from the pitcher's hand. I.E. the taller a pitcher is, the less time a batter has to pick up the ball, it's movement, etc because it's being released at a point closer to the plate.

Anyone else wondering if it's time to do an MRI on DeJean? Something's obviously not right....

If you had doubts about Gwynn being our 2nd rounder, you really need to go see the guy play. He simply amazed me on Saturday, both offensively and defensively- if he improves his power (he's already got great gap power), he'd seriously be a LEGITIMATE 5-tool player, probably the only position prospect in our system that can truly be qualified as such.

I guess all DJ needed to start pitching well again was a haircut. Seriously- has anyone else noticed that seemingly anytime DJ struggles, he shaves off the goatee and gets back into a groove? Creepy...

Beloit defeats Quad City 7-6 in extra innings. Outstanding game which I had the pleasure of attending. Some notes/highlights: Prince hit a monster 2-run HR early on, and was robbed of extra bases in his first AB. He really hit the ball hard tonight. Gwynn can absolutely rake. He had (IIRC) 3 doubles tonight and made a few great plays in CF. Other than Adam Heether and the afforementioned Gwynn, the Beloit defense was horrific tonight, most notably poor was Crabbe at 2nd. He missed two tags on what would have been CS, made an error, and knocked a two balls down on hotshots only to lose the handle on both and not make a play. Esparragoza threw out a runner, but launched a few throws over the heads of fielders, one of which was saved by a spectacular jumping stab by Prince. Quad City made several great defensive plays to take away 2-3 base hits. Heether flashed the leather 2-3 times at 3rd. An outstanding comeback win- Bibbs with a great BB to tie it up and Crabbe followed with a clutch hit to win in it. The pitchers gave up 6 runs combined, but none of them pitched particularly poorly or anything like that. A great fire works show followed the game, and fans were given free issues of the latest issue of Baseball America on the way into the stadium- very cool. Fans were promised coupons for free ice cream on the way out since the Snappers scored 7 runs.... but they ran out only 1/3 of the way through the exiting crowd. That seems like poor planning to me, but it's not that big of a deal. I believe I saw Michael and Chris (madbad and Blazinwings) pass below our seats when they were on their way out of the stadium before the fireworks, but I didn't get the chance to talk to either. At least I assume it was them since one (Chris, I believe) was wearing a brewerfan.com T-Shirt and old-school Brewer hat. The performance of 22-year-old LHP Eric Henderson (10th round, 99), stands out... I'm pretty sure he was actually a 4th rounder that year...he and 3rd rounder Dane Artman had some of us thinking, hot dog, finally some LHP in the system...four years and a surgery or two later, Henderson is back in the Pioneer League... Just some clarification: Henderson was our 4th in 2000, not '99 (Artman was also 2000 draft). Our actual 10th rounder in 1999 was Ben Hendrickson.

I'm following on the net and I'm assuming Yost didn't have the infield in with no outs in the 4th. I'm glad he's learning his lesson on that. Let me know if my assumption is wrong. Your assumption is correct... the infield was back.
