  1. Just to firm up the details on the Philly/Mia trade: #6 and a 5th to Miami for #12, a 4th, and a 2022 first. Not a bad deal for Philly at all. Drop 6 spots, grab a 4th for a 5th and grab an extra 2022 first... That's two major draft trades for this far out from the draft....
  2. Hard not to see SF bouncing back and clearly they're feeling they could be a solid QB away from a SB win. But man, that's the type of trade that destroys a franchise if you choose the wrong guy. Those draft picks will look mighty nice when we trade Rodgers to Miami next year. /Half Blue
  3. Smart is still living quite a bit on his time at VCU and a run to a Final Four, but his time with the big boys has been far from exceptional. He's a 'hot name' because of VCU and his Wisconsin ties, but I think he'll end up Wojo'd in 5-6 years.
  4. Who does? No one in this thread is claiming anything beyond the fact that this is a one-year, cheap prove-it deal for a guy that has a lot to approve. Why continue to post the same thing?
  5. I really don't understand the continued negative commentary on the transaction. First, King is a longer-tentured Packer? He's been here four seasons..... Second, it's a one year deal for a low amount of cash, an even lower cap hit, and no long-term commitment on a 'prove-it' deal. That's not the equivalent of signing an average guy to a 3/4 year extension for a moderate amount of money. Quite literally the opposite. Honestly, if prior to the NFC Championship game you'd have been told that the Packers signed King to a 1 year, $4.5 million extension, would anyone have been upset? People keep acting as though this is their only move in the secondary. Yeah, it could be. But I'd bet a lot of money it's not. And the offseason is far from over.
  6. Well, that's a Russ Ball special. And should definitively answer the 'why King not Fuller argument', as $1.8 < $9.5. Looks like it's really a 1/$4.75m contract for King essentially as far as 'cash received', and the Packers have a minimal cap hit.
  7. I do think the assumption has to be that they'll supplement King with a 1st or 2nd round draft choice there. Doesn't mean they're a lock to do so as they're not a lock to do anything, but I think it's fair to say we should let the rest of the offseason play out to see if it truly is 'King or bust' at the position, or whether they give themselves more options.
  8. Though I appreciate your acknowledgement that you've chosen a bit of an odd hill to die on, repeatedly saying people are in denial is unnecessarily confrontational...
  9. Silverstein also seems to be on the "2/$8 with $2.1 guaranteed" side, so there's that.
  10. Are those terms actually different, though, or just people using the same terms interchangeably? My understanding is, and has always been, that the money can't be conditional in any way, (I.E., you need to be on a roster to get a roster bonus). I obviously could be completely wrong on that, I acknowledge though.
  11. Even better I'm assuming that both figures are technically correct and the 2.1M is actually guaranteed and the other 1.9M is part of a roster bonus for 2022 that they call guarantees for some reason even when they're not. I'm pretty sure it actually has to be guaranteed to be called guaranteed in the NFL. Hence, a roster bonus, unless it's payable immediately, isn't guaranteed.
  12. If it's actually 4 million guaranteed, it's actually a two-year deal with cap numbers of 2 point whatever each year, in all likelihood.
  13. Conflicting reports of $4million guaranteed vs. $2.1 guaranteed. $2.1 makes a lot of sense based on his previous details...
  14. Considering he's been on one-year deals (I think) his whole time in GB, I agree that year two is a phantom year. I'd expect his cap number to be what it was in the past, which I believe has been about $2m. EDIT: His cap numbers in GB are $2.1, 2.3, and 2.1, so that's likely the limit on what he'll count at.
  15. A large portion of the fan base/media does....
  16. I'm not certain that this is accurate. I'm at least willing to hope that a new scheme may possibly play to his strengths better. Hence, a one-year trial seems reasonable.
  17. Depends on LTBE or NLTBE, so the incentives matter. The chatter on Twitter suggests NLTBE for King. If, for example, he has a $500k Pro-Bowl incentive, it's NLTBE since he hasn't been a pro bowler, and that doesn't count on the 21 cap.
  18. I think you're going to be proven correct. Between the Packers' typical secrecy and the ultra-off the beaten path ways they've manipulated the cap this off season, details have been slow coming. It took DAYS for the final Turner details to get reported for his restructure.
  19. I guess I just don't know how fair it is to assume that he'll be the only option at CB 2. They'll likely draft someone at some point, and it remains to be seen if that person will start, or if it will be in that person's best interest to start. If his cap number is low, I don't think it excludes them from signing someone else if they want to. It's also fair to wonder if a new scheme will help him, as it seems plausible. And for the record, that's coming from me as someone who doesn't like King as a player. Or at least the King we've seen thus far.
  20. I was purely looking at 'QB talent level,' not contract status, so apologies for the confusion. Merely pointing out that the QBs were either A)Young and not established yet, or B)decidedly not elite. And your response touches on the inevitable debate about whether guys like Eli or Big Ben are 'HOF caliber', or whether it's far too soon to call guys like Wilson or Maholmes "HOF Probable", of which I am firmly in the 'too soon' camp. Simply put, 48% of the SB-winning QBs were not established as elite-level QBs, which I think directly proves the point that you truly CAN win a SB with a young or non-elite QB if the rest of the team is good.
  21. I was responding to the idea that they don't draft for immediate impact, which has been incorrect with 2/4ths of our starting secondary in Gute's three drafts. But, if you'd like to argue that they may not draft a DB, of course that's fair.
  22. Darnell Savage and Jaire Alexander say hey.
  23. Also, reports this morning that they restructured their restructure of Amos, opening up another $3 something million. Voidable years were used for Amos and Crosby's new cap numbers. Silverstein is speculating that they're now about $8m below the cap.
  24. Because Fuller's $9.5 million will be $9.5 million, while King's $6 million will be more like $2 million.
  25. To you point, if he's a 5th round pick, he's cut by now and you've moved on. To Thompson's credit, he didn't compound mistakes by clinging to them with hope regardless of their draft position. He moved on quickly when guys like Harrell, Jones, etc. flamed out. Feels like the Packers are chasing a bit with King. There's obviously some potential there, but he hasn't shown much of it recently.
